I started my first photog biz as an all in one stop type of deal. many clients hired me for weddings and such because I did everything else. it gave them more faith in my over all ability. However, I do agree certain areas like real estate perform better with specialties. That's why I am branching out into a new brand.

The video I was searching for. Most of the videos for this topic are around this length, but only provide 2-4 minutes of clear and useful information. This video gives a steady stream of clear and concise information

Alex, would you consider a video on the contents of the marketing booklet you’ve put together? I’ve created a small one with just a few pages related to photography but am curious on what you feel is important to put in one to market yourself the best way possible, especially when you’re marketing to people who likely already have a photographer they use.

I'd consider doing that. I'll pass out the booklet for a while first to know if it works well or not

I’m so glad I found you. I literally had the thought of beginning this venture today! I just recently bought my first real camera A7iv and have my RE license but never did much with it. I’m hoping to use it as entry.

I must admit what your saying is so true, I am really guilty of over diversifying, I am a good photographer, I am also an illustrator and designer with so many years under my belt, so the strings to my bow are wide and varied, so varied I stumble over what direction to take or maybe concentrate on. In short I maybe my own worst enemy. Being a one man band is tricky. Yes I think sales can be key, I used to use a very attractive woman to do the cold calling many years back and that really worked as it got my foot in the door, this is not a sexist comment just a simple fact, I don’t have that particular resource anymore and I am not great at the cold calling side, I am fine when the contact is established but the first contact is not my forte. Anyway I soldier on.

Im very interested in getting into this business but I’m just completely lost on how to go about putting myself out their and building a portfolio. I have a dji mavic 3 classic that I’ve been using to practice shooting. What’s the best advice to give a beginner like myself regarding getting access to shooting a home?

About to sell all of my equipment. I did real estate photography for 4 years and last year was the worst. I pulled in 9 grand for total year earnings and that was shooting full time. So I think I am done.

Nobody talks about the post shoot workload. I've been shooting since the early 90's when your biggest fear was making sure you secure your film and don't screw up the processing or God forbid, forget you have live film loaded then open up the back and expose your images. Shooting real estate photos is a cake walk compared to shooting weddings or photo journalism where- if you miss the moment, you blew it, so don't be sitting on 3 frames remaining when the kiss is approaching or when cutting the cake. So, getting the shots necessary for REP, I've got that, now what? I I'm signed on with Adobe, I want to load my photos, run through them, I bracket, so I bring the images together choose what they need, shots from every room, exterior, etc. Then do you put the bundled complete job and email it, or physically send it on a thumb drive, a CD? The only part I'm worried about is the organization aspect. I'm a rolodex brained man, I would love to adapt but I'm not sure where to go. I never see anyone talking about the post end. The shooting part is laughably easy IMO.

Use an outsourced editor for fast, inexpensive and fantastic photos. Download them and put them in Show & Tour (showandtour.com/alex/) to deliver in a professional gallery. Absolutely do not be delivering photos on a CD...

Model homes are a great option. Go to some of the new neighborhoods around and look for the model homes. Ask the person inside if you could take some photos for your portfolio
