I'm so tired of not being able to talk. I'm so tired of working so hard to do everything other people are born with
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 3 жыл бұрын
That's some BS right there! You were born with exactly what everyone else got. That you're choking it off and restricting it is not your voice's fault. Take a step back from yourself and start with a sound that's easy to produce - like a moan. Or just lay on your back and just sigh. Take any basic sound that comes out and repeat it again and again. As you get more comfortable with it (or bored) you can explore different sounds nearby - but keep it really simple. Speaking with ease requires you get your emotions in check first.

This might be far from the topic but. How can one hit the high notes effectively? I can never hit high notes, I always fail. I get my air from my chest but my voice still cracks everytime. To some hitting high notes seem easy, but it has become my greatest fear of all. Heeeeeelppp
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 7 жыл бұрын
Your struggles over high notes are due to calling up way too much air pressure. The cracks are an indicator of that. It's not harmful to crack, but of course you want a smooth transition. So start here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLSog8t6vNjTnWw.html

Good Morning, Mark! This solves my question, hehe. I'd wondered about this. What a fun video. Seems I'm okay! YAY! But posture sure makes a difference in that air passage just like you mention. A habit is building too. Now I stop in here 'before' singing. [I've taken voice lessons, had various instructors over the years for choirs, swing choirs, theory, etc. (back in 'the day') but apparently, it's easy to become complacent. Should never have heard that Streisand doesn't find it necessary to warm up! (?)] Some things are best forgotten when they don't serve us, hehe. Thank you, again and again!

I have a hyper nasal voice and when I close my nose I still feel it vibrate then I just sound hypo nasal. I know they say use your diaphragm but I don't know how, I breath, the air goes to my lungs and then out as I sing, I am mostly a mouth breather especially if I sing. I also wonder if I sing to loud, people on stage look like they practically scream into the microphone. Is that what they are doing or are they singing in a quieter voice and allowing the mic to amplify the vocal volume? There are some moments when I record myself and certain parts sound good without any sort of nasality, I don't care if I have to use software I just want to make song covers online. I do have mild scoliosis so the slouching could definitely be part of the problem, I need to correct my posture anyway. Can a broken nose cause issues? I had a perfect nose till a car accident when I was an infant broke my nose and it healed with a dorsal hump which was not there before. Also my rate of speech is slower, more so than normal for a lot of Southerners. That last bit of advice helps to push the air mostly from the mouth, though it makes my vocals quieter but it feels right to me so maybe volume is a production thing and I should record even if it does feel too quiet, some people I think naturally have that darker more whispery voice which is most noticable in that alternative type music like that song mad world, the singer stayed in a very quiet indoor tone. That feels more natural to me but I still want some software, it's just a hobby I want.

If you can really help me here I'd appreciate it. I'm a male who has too much nasality/ specifically when sounding out words that are like EINE (dry, wine, fine, dine etc) and my SSS are sloppy. My tongue is too big for my mouth so it sounds lazy and lispy. In a way, saying this to identify and explain, not to be offensive, I sound gay and I am Jewish so there's also that natural nasality going on. Is there anything I can do to try (another EINE word) to sound more serious and straight-forward? It doesn't help that I don't have a deep voice naturally.

My voice has always been nasally and falsetto and I didn't like it at first, very teen sounding for an adult man, I sound like a lot of singers, I even made a video about it called "Singers I Sound Closest to", but the best match for my voice would probably be Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins despite not being a super fan of them, but Billy's nasal and soft voice does sound cool. I tried deepening my voice through self practice, listening to other people sing, etc, my biggest influence is listening to Mike Patton's deeper vocals. I think how I do the deep vocals is I think of my stomach or something and when I do, the sound gets lower, I apparently have 3 octaves.

Can keeping your tongue on the bottom of your mouth and touching the back of your teeth also improve nasallity a bit? I find that when I speak with my tongue touching the bottom of my mouth my plugged nose opens up a bit

Impossible to keep your tongue in one place while speaking. It moves a lot to articulate. Best to follow the advice on this video.

Where should the tongue be placed when singing the vowels and should we do it with lazy droopy jaw ???
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 5 жыл бұрын
"Think" relaxed tongue rather than placing it somewhere. If you hear the vowel sound than your tongue is in the right place (it moves for AYE & EE - lays low for AH, OH & OO) but it may be tense due to other factors. So asking for it to be as relaxed as possible yet free to move where it needs to is the best set up for singing freely. Same goes for the jaw: Keep it relaxed yet let it move.

Hi Mark !! You said that when doing this exercise we should focus on the sound remaining same whether we plug or unplug the nose.means air shouldn't be leaking through the while singing, right? But what about exhaling through nose while,generally breathing or yoga . Would that behavior will effect the sound during singing later ??
@voicelessondotcom
@voicelessondotcom 4 жыл бұрын
No - it's only what happens while singing that matters. Exhaling through nose is perfectly fine.

This is an interesting take on nasal voices. Does this exercise work with Hyper AND Hypo nasality? If Hyponasality produces no tone shift when you pinch your nose, how can you tell if the hyponasality your voice is improving from this pinch exercise?

This exercise is just for hyper-nasal voices.

Question, please. About half the female newscasters I hear have irritatingly nasal voices. (I'm female, so I figure I'm allowed to say this.) It drives me half insane, and that's how I happened upon your videos. I have wondered if it's just the shape of their nose, or if they are in need of vocal exercises or maybe just need to sit up straight. I expect men also do this, but it's less noticeable in the lower range. Could you comment?

I blame the Kardashians! It use to be a deep rich voice was the cultural standard for authority figures. But with the rise and success of that family - our culture now embraces that nasal sound (along with vocal fry) as the hallmark of a power-female. There's still a wide variety of female voices in music - which is why I offer exercises to reduce nasality for those who don't like it. To each her own!

Started taking voice lessons after two months I couldnt proceed class because of pain in my throat . I went to doctor and to check it out he found out that I have deviation of the right nasal cavity, soft palate lowered inflamed and red, tongue raised, tonsils inflamed. He wants to remove my tonsils and to raise my soft palate, and to fix my nose problem. Will that improve my singing?
