Ever wondered how to get the most out of your color wheel? Is a color wheel even necessary for adult coloring? Here are two of my favorites, a bit about color theory, and some tips for choosing the perfect colors in adult coloring books.

Man i wish i paid more attention in art class with this color wheel. This was my least favorite subject but it is the most important thing to learn! Lol Now im here trying to learn it...glad u helped us

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have both color wheels and I have several books on the color wheel and could not fully understand how to use it . Today I have learn (especially how to use the numbers on the color wheel) wow. This is why I love KZfaq finding artist like yourself who are willing to share information. I appreciate you as I am sure others do as well. I will be checking out your other videos as well. As they say in life you can never stop learning. I am 68 and I have become obsess with coloring books of all subjects. I am learning everyday how to become a better colorist because of artist like yourself. The first "lesson" will be all about Color Theory, and we're going to talk about the color wheel again, discuss some different terminology, talk about warm vs. cool colors in more depth, and more! Later, we'll talk about some of the different ways to add shadows and highlights, where to put them, how to make things look realistic and 3D.. there's a LOT on my agenda so stick around!

I've taken many art classes and color has always been a struggle for me. I have two color wheels (one I made myself in class), and the Pocket Color Wheel that you show in your video. Your video has really helped me see how to use both of them. Thank you!

This is an excellent lesson. I learned a lot, and the Rainbow color wheel will help me so much. I usually end up with a color in the wrong hue compared to the rest of the picture, but with the Rainbow wheel and using 2's, 3's etc, I think my pictures will turn out much better. Thank you.

Great video as well thanks you demystified and clarified the color wheel I finally get it after seeing a few tutorials on youtube and they didn't know how to explain the complementary colors on the back very well it sounded abstract and the other shapes for complementary colors.I ordered the color wheel already waiting to receive it but wanted to know how it works and you did that .Thanks!!!

Great explanation of the color wheel! I have the Rainbow color wheel as well and I love it. I like how I can set it down on my work and match the colors through the little cutout on the wheel. Very handy! Thanks for explaining everything. It can get confusing if you've never used one before! :)

Hi, I have a colour wheel and it seems to be hard to understand it when I read the Instructions on it. Listening to you, you make it easy to understand it. I am new to painting and I can picture something in my mind, but to put in colours, I am totally messed up man. When you were talking about Complementary, Triad, and Tetrad. I'm still trying to get it can you please do the explanation easy for me.

Ooookay! Hahahahaha! Sorry saw an ad for Art Classes online just before your video. Isn't that a hoot? Having an icky day as I had a bad adverse reaction to Amoxicillin AGAIN! Only this time I stopped before everything that got me a trip to the hospital. So yeah have to stop taking them. I loved this video as I knew the basics of the Colour Wheel but never to this extent or how to actually properly use it. Thank you.

Just got one of these but I really don't understand how a complementary colour is on the opposite side of the wheel and is therefore very contrasting. To me complementary means that they go well together, the complement one another and contrasting colours don't. I love contrasting colours but to me that's what they are, they are the opposite than complementary!

I’ve been trying it use the colour wheel for a while now and my coloured pages still look like a jumble of colours. I tried to reduce the number of colours to improve that, to no avail. It probably has something to do with the amount of times I use each of the colours, as even if the colours work together, not all of them can be used in the same proportion over the page, to avoid this jumble effect. I’m still working on this but until I “get it”, my pages look dreadful.

I recommend you the video "Understanding color" by Blender Guru. He explains a bit this, showing examples of color compositions. Or "How to Choose Colours that Work!" by Sycra, who also explains proportions. Basically just because the color wheel tells you that Blue, Purple, Yellow and Orange go well together doesn't mean that they will go well if you use them in the same proportion. You have to choose one principal color and the rest will be to add details in less percentage
