"The tank is designed with double uranium, polonium, low-oxidized armor, or DUPLO. This armor helps the T-14 stay modular, as bricks can be clicked into and out of configuration. The extra thickness, as opposed the the Western LEGO modular armor bricking, is thought to help reinforce the tank against direct hits. Further, if the tank were to be stepped on, it would make the unfortunate soldier experience what is often called...'A Big Owie'."

I don't think there's a tank out there that exists that has more unjustifiable hate than the Armata. It is a step in the right direction for MBT's. I respect its design. But we all know the Bob Semple clearly outmatches any tank out there.

I think it's a good idea to use remote turrets nowadays, because you can save a lot of weight on turret Armor, which you can instead focus on the crew. It would be interesting though to see them in action, especially with Germany sending 2A6s, that way we can see whether (mostly) modern NATO tanks have the ability to destroy it. But yes I do agree a metal plate on a tractor is still the best thing there is.

While I agree with you that the tank does many many things right. The drawbacks of the design leave a lot to be desired. The lack of turret armour, the height, the questionable effectiveness of its ERA and more important its APS system all come to mind. Not to mention that some systems may not even be able to be produced in the quality that the tank has previously been able to due to international sanctions. Not to mention that if the tank was as good as the Russian MOD says it is, and they are as confident in it as they pretend to be. They would have deployed it by now.

4:45 This practically has no effect against tandem warheads, like the Javelin. The missile uses two charges to defeat ERA, a smaller primary charge detonates first against reactive armor, taking it out before the second and much larger charge detonates next, actually causing the damage.

IMHO, the most plausible theory as to why the T-14 has not been mass-produced yet rests on two main factors: 1- The tank demonstrated in 2014 was a pre-production model, which was tested in Syria circa 2019, after which some modifications were made to it's hull armor and side skirts. But otherwise the Tank is still undergoing additional testing before it sees mass production, which is typical of any brand-new weapons system. 2- Russia has prioritized the modernization of its huge T-72B fleet to T-72B3M standards, and it's smaller but still substantial T-90A fleet to T-90M standards, which would allow them to extend the T-72s service life by another decade and the T-90's by another two. It's a "bird in hand" type of situation, if you must, especially when Ural Vagon Zavod's production capacity is taken into account.

The reduced crew size allows for more space to carry cannisters of Copium for Russians to imagine these tanks actually meet spec. All reports currently are that the tank crews refuse to use the T14 because they break down and jam up but no one is trained to use them so cannot quickly fix the issues. Until these are actually seen outside of parades we may as well be discussing Imperial Guard Leman Russ tanks from Warhammer 40k.

If the T-14 armata’s auto loader is anything similar to that of the T-72 or the T-90. Then it’ll likely be another turret popper in the Russian army’s arsenal. EDIT: It’s likely that this is the same case with the T-14 Armata judging by its design. It’s turret isn’t big enough to store a large quantity of tank ammunition, and since the tank crew takes up the front space of the tank and the engine occupies the back of the tank, it very likely that the tank ammunition of the T-14 Armata, is store right beneath its turret. Just like with all the Russian tanks to date since the Cold War.

Another modern russian tank is the 2S25 Sprut-SD/M1 light airborne tanks, they are one of the few new generation light tanks being produce in the 21st century. As most countries have abandoned the light tank concept in favor of the IFV's. Also the Kurganets-25 IFV, the T-14 of russian IFV's.

IFV like the CV90 are just as powerful as any light tank. The 25 mm autocannon of a Bradley can kill most of the Soviet models, imagine what this baby can do with any of the 35 - 40 or 50 mm it can use. No lack of this type of vehicles. A big gun is not always needed if you can carry a few anti-tank missiles and a drone.

I think the AbramsX layout is more efficient. Similar to the Armata, but ammo is in the bustle not the hull, providing room for the crew to go into the turret to fix any problem with the main gun and machine guns. Sure, the Armata looks good - on paper, but given the Russian limitations with high-tech systems I very much doubt that it's anything more than a paper tiger. The crew may be fairly well protected, but I doubt the effectiveness of the anti-missile defences and think that top-down attack munitions will still kill these tanks. They retain the auto-loader/carousel system and will be just as vulnerable to ammo cooking off after being hit as their older tanks. No hatches or blast panels means their turrets will fly high when hit.

Those already existing were so expensive to make, as they are hand built, that the whole project has been shelved at least for now. So, Armata is the Paper Kitten of the Paper Tiger. The T-14 Armata is a Russian main battle tank based on the Armata Universal Combat Platform. The Russian Army initially planned to acquire 2,300 T-14s between 2015 and 2020. By 2018, production and fiscal shortfalls delayed this to 2025, before Russia announced the apparent cancellation of the main show run on 30 July 2018. However, as of 2021, the Russian state-owned TASS media agency claimed the Armata had been expected to begin serial production in 2022, with the delivery of a test batch of 100 to the 2nd Guards Tamanskaya Motor Rifle Division expected to begin in 2022. The tanks are planned to only be officially transferred after completing all state tests. In December 2021 the Russian state conglomerate Rostec stated that serial production had commenced, with "more than 40" Armata tanks anticipated to be delivered to Russian troops after 2023.

I think that if the allied tank is experienced anough, they can stick a round into the turret ring jamming it, it looks very exposed for a main battle tank. The turret looks very "weak".

Unlike in video games, tanker aren't shooting at 'weak point's.' Generally if you are engaging enemy armor you're not gonna shoot at specific area's but rather center mass because waiting to fire is going to get you killed. The first to fire and hit usually wins, not matter if the shot penetrates or not because now the enemy crew knows you have the range figured out and never know if the next round will penetrate or not and no one wants to take that risk

Vets from the ukraine war confirm that this is not a thing. You fire as soon as you have a clear shot. You dont aim for weak spots if your life is in danger. Tank rounds are sufficient to penetrate most tanks at close range, so most hits will do enough damage to disable a tank or dishearten the crew

The T-14 armata is starting to become a pipe dream for the Russian military seeing that it’s still not in active service and how it still is constantly falling short of its demands. The first time this tank showed itself during the parade, one of them ended up breaking down in the middle of the parade rehearsals and had to be towed away. And even if 132 have supposedly been delivered, it’s likely that only around of tenth of that are fully operational. Yet the ones that are apparently operational are still in the pre-production phase. And with Russia being heavily sanctioned since the war in Ukraine, it’s very unlikely that we’ll even see more of these rolling off the production lines anytime soon since Russia relies on western components for the military equipment, including its most modern ones like the T-14.

I would see myself driving a T14 Armata. The designs are super sharp. For me really, the bells and whistles on it bring a lot of revolutionary innovations. Sure the treads would leave some scratches on the pavement. All it needs are some cameras for the blind spots, cameras for the front and rear of the tank, and you have a custom tank. Put some rubber tank tread pads, and thr tank can be more traversable. With some precision maneuvering. The name i would put for my ideal tank, the karen hunter

@Simple History Just to be clear, you mentioned that western tanks use a four man crew while the T-14 has a crew of three. The three man crew is not new to Russian/Soviet tanks. Russian/Soviet tanks have been using three man crews and auto loaders for the main gun since the mid to late 1960s. The first tank to use a three man crew with an auto loader was the T-64 and every Russian tank has used those two features ever since. The only thing that is new about the T-14 is the unmanned turret (for an actual production tank anyway).

Russia is in no hurry to bring the latest tanks to the battlefield when there are many old tanks. Even the T90 appeared in Ukraine only at the end of the first year of the war. The armada did not break down, the driver accidentally pressed the e-brake button which essentially works as a hand brake due to having no training on the vehicle as a result of its classified nature. If it actually broke down, then the recovery vehicle should have been able to tow it away, but as we see in the footage it remained braked in place. Furthermore, the vehicle drove away under its own power after a bit of fussing around. Inform yourself next time before you spread misinformation. And autoloaders are always better than human loaders as long as they do not present a risk to the crew. In this case, it doesn’t, because the turret is unmanned and the ammunition and engine is stored in a completely seperate compartments from the crew

The turret is very lightly armored, only sufficiently to withstand autocannon fire. This makes sense since the turret has no crew members (one of the most important parts of a tank) and with hard kill APS, the only thing that can penetrate the turret is other tanks fire APFSDS, which is relatively rare on the battlefield compared to IMVs, APCs, IFVs, and infantry. The areas that can be hit would destroy or disable a more conventional design regardless, since hitting the gun mantlet or the gun itself will result in penetration or disabling the main gun at minimum. The small turret means that there is not much area to be protected to begin with and since it is relatively lightly armored, most of the armor can be concentrated in the hull front, which allows Armata to have very thick armor without being super heavy. This is one of the major benefits of Armata and something that has been featured with the AbramsX demonstrator, although that does have an optionally manned turret as opposed to the Armata’s completely unmanned turret so it does resemble a more conventional design. Another thing that should have been noted is the gun. The 2A82-1M gun is an improved 125mm gun with the main claim to fame being the extended L/56 (compared to the L/48 found on most 125mm guns), whose added velocity aids in penetration for APFSDS rounds and the new 3BM69 Vacuum-1 round that reportedly has 1m of RHAe penetration. The gun can also accept all existing 125mm rounds from the 3BM60 and 3BM59 rounds originally designed for the T-90A, to legacy Soviet rounds like 3BM42 which is what Russia primarily uses, which is beneficial since I could not imagine the logistical shitshow if T-14s had to run into Ukraine with the originally planned 152mm gun back in February of 2022 I cannot imagine that this will enter service in any large numbers if at all, which is made worse by the war in Ukraine. If the T-14 enters service, it will likely be in very small numbers. I suspect that Russia is currently working on or will soon work on an economized version of the T-14 that it can actually produce at scale in order to replace the aging T-72 as it’s armored backbone, much like we saw with the T-64 and T-72 back in the Cold War.
