Benjamin Moore Cloud White for a north facing, or for a room without a lot of direct light. It's a beautiful warm white that doesn't look yellowy or dingy at all, just bright yet soothing.

My home has 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own painted accent wall. My son's bedroom is a deep blue, the guest bedroom is a dark green, the spare room is a buttery yellow and my bedroom (primary) is a deep cherry wall. The rest of my home is a warm white.

I've just realised a huge one. I have a habit of leaving items out to remind me to do something. Maybe a bag in the hall to take out or an empty product container to remind me to add to my shopping list or an empty picture frame, awaiting a photo. While the intention may be good, the effect is clutter and a repeated reminder if I "still haven't done xyz" (at least, that's the negative self talk). So, setting reminders instead, having a smart grocery list you can talk to while your hands are sticky, having a box for charity shop items awaiting your next visit, these all help.

I've always loved grays and greens and soft blue for my bedroom. My favorite bathroom was navy blue and white. My father once painted his bedroom a bright apple green which actually brightened up his room as it received very little sunlight. Unfortunately, I live in Assisted Living now and have no say in the wall colors. My tiny bedroom is painted a dim yellow and the facility put up beige curtains on my one window 🙁. I compensated for this by surrounding myself with things I love from nature. My clock has birds upon it, I love plants, natural stones and for color, I keep my needlework threads in a small see- through bin. Everywhere I look, I see something I love. My window looks out onto a giant holly tree where birds sing. This is my sanctuary, especially since I have a roommate who enjoys owning things! 😀 I find if I clear my mind, meditate and keep negativity out of my little space, I can be happy. Not an easy thing to be when you live with fifty other people! Clear your mind, clear the clutter, make up your mind to be positive and it is possible to build a cozy, quiet space. Love your videos, here and on Patreon.❤

I have been *_s l o w l y_* Marie Kondo'ing my way through my stuff. There is so much others have given me that have sentimental value, but are just taking up space I can't afford. So, every Saturday, I go get a few things, say, "Thank you for your service, but you no longer spark joy." Then I take it to Goodwill. It hurts, but I'm doing it. 🥲

In contrast to your wall advice, my walls are completely covered in art, but with intention. I'm an artist so several of the works are mine and many are the work of friends, but also an accumulation of a lifetime. Every piece has a story but now I live in a much smaller house there is no place for purely decorative pieces or ones I no longer enjoy, even if they were gifts. I love waking up to the sight of them.

As I declutter, my home feels calmer thanks to far less clutter. Cleaner is no longer something I dread. I know where what remains goes. My keys and purse are always together. I'm using up things I rarely used before because I now know they're there. I removed a lot of items that were on my walls. Now my dusting is so minimal. I like the tray idea.

I lost my 2 brothers and sister within a few years and now that you say that their photos I see in my home make me feel sad. I am going to put them in a draw or box for now and put them away. I will keep my 4 sweet grandkids pictures out that make me happy. Thank you

I kept my favourite picture of my parents but keep it in a draw as it is too painful to see but bring it out on their birthday or anniversary and light a tealight candle next to them. 15 years ago and I still find it hard to talk about them to other family members, except with my husband. They were both only 63 and it was a shock............... Yes, time does eventually heal or at least soften the blow.

"Take it, use it, stow it." (3:18) I like how trays and little boxes can make something look like it belongs there instead of being clutter. And I second storing things closer to where you use them, and to separate things into those you use a lot vs those you use occasionally.

My walls, blinds, and carpet are cream color. My artwork is large oil canvas paintings that pertain to nature and have a bronzy light coral sectional so all the artwork have those colors in them to coordinate. Keeping up with the warmth of nature I have 30 houseplants placed aesthetically throughout my home.

I think I need to rethink my wall decor choices. I used to love it but once I had a kid and all the kid clutter came into my life it feels like too much. I definitely think my first place to start is my office sewing room. I definitely think having a lot of words around me in a space is too much. Really great food for thought. My living room is a bright mustard yellow. It’s such a happy color. And when the light comes in the window in the early morning it’s like being in a golden sunbeam.
@SimpleHappyZen
@SimpleHappyZen 2 ай бұрын
Definitely wall colors can have a different impact depending on what else is in the room, and if you now have more kid clutter, it can be different from back when you didn't. Your comment about words caught my eye, because I almost added another tip in this video (decided not to since I wanted to keep it below 20 minutes) about being intentional with words and language in your home. When you see words, your mind immediately goes to it and wants to read it, which can be tiring. So definitely something to keep in mind, if you want to calm down your spaces. And if you do have words and language around, at least make sure it says positive things :)

Great video and very timely on my side because yesterday I let go of an area rug that was in good shape, but had bad memories of illness. When the rug was removed, it instantly revived my feeling about the room. Thank you for your advice. I’ve been looking for a picture for the wall and had not thought of something that is based on nature. 🌸

When it comes to hanging things on the wall, I got to DIY channels that focus on hanging items. What they all have in common is they have a little device that can be easily bought at a hardware store or online. Stud finder is the name. You can place the stud finder on the wall a light will turn on when you find the stud. When you find it and seems off centered to where you want to hang things, then find a couple of studs on the same wall and hang a shelf from the studs you find and place on the shelf everything you want or as little as you want.

Hi! We tried them yesterday in the toilet room to hang up picture frames, and it worked. :) They do say you're only to use them on smooth walls without wallpaper, and for the rest of the apartment, we have either coarse structure walls or wallpaper haha, so I don't know if I can use these in any of the other rooms. Maybe I'll try because they do feel STUCK hahaha.

Thank you, Vera, for this video! I always find your tips very helpful and inspiring! My family and I live in a house where the first floor has white walls and wooden beams as part of the walls and the ceiling is white and has wooden beams, as well; the walls on the second floor are made of light wooden planks and the ceiling is also wooden. The wooden second floor has bedrooms and I love the calming effect of looking at the wood. The white walls of the first floor where the kitchen, the pantry, the dining room, the office and the music room are make me feel bright and cheerful! I bring color to my living quarters, like you, via colorful accessories. My biggest challenge for keeping my house tidy and clutter free is clean laundry)) I dry it on a drying rack and if I don't fold it and put it away right away after it gets dry it just sits there (in random places) in a pile... I have been making a conscious effort to fold and put it away RIGHT AWAY and it's very inspiring to see that I CAN actually do it and are guilt-free as a result! I learned a tip from Pick Up Limes channel to never leave the room empty handed and I love this little habit that actually makes a huge difference! Much love your way from Ukraine!

13:00 …Vera, Drywall Anchors, you guys need Drywall Anchors AND a Stud Finder. The Anchors are specifically made to deal with the chalky filling under the paint. The Stud Finder (hopefully one with a live wire sensor to avoid the electrics) is to find the wood posts you can use regular wood screws on.

I've got to be honest, my pets create clutter, but I love them. I need blank walls and surfaces but early on, I got all excited by having a home and bought various decorative things. I still like them but I also don't like how I feel by the overall effect. I've made space in a cupboard so I can rotate a few items and put the rest away. Then they feel fresher when I bring them out. If I feel like I'm bored of it when I bring it back out, then I declutter it.

Everything having a home is such excellent advice. After living in our home for so long we are finally changing storage areas and making new ones to adapt to how we actually live with every item. Amazing that we had the vacuum cleaner in the 2nd shower for so long and the broom and mops on a basement side wall. nothing like leaning over basement steps to grab a mop. It just goes to show how you can get used to something . my pots and pans now live in an almost eye level shelf in the pantry unit makeover. i still have a couple drawers full of little sentimental items and souvenirs etc. i had a friend who had all of that stuff in a nice shadow box with a glass front on a wall. it was so colorful and meaningful. even the little drink umbrellas looked cool and told a story. Thanks for the video!

I love the idea of the trays. It makes such a big difference with visual clutter. I would say the one thing that I didn’t did change was getting rid of my photo albums and putting my pictures in decorative boxes, it was amazing how many photos photos I was able to discard because some of them were so similar, I came to realize that you don’t need to have 1000 photos to spark a good memory, I have gone through them two times and will be going through them very soon once again because it is hard to do it all at once but I’m so much happier not seeing all those photo albums. I also have reduced how much Wall art put up, there is really no need to use every single space to hang something, it looks so much better with less, being intentional is the key for sure, thanks for a great video Vera 🖼️ 💖

In Canada, we have hooks that make hanging even heavy items so simple. And it’s all about simplicity right? This hook goes through a nail sized hole and the hook anchors in behind the wall, and then voila and leaves no damage except the small nail hole. I hope you can get in Holland and that this helps! Thank you for your beautiful, calming energy. As an Empath, and getting older, I need this! You are an inspiration, Vera! ❤

Sheldon’s spot! That made me laugh. One of the things I do to help with our home is pay attention to how it’s used. For example, we used to keep coffee beans in our pantry, which was not near our coffee machine and the result is that it got left out on the counter all the time. So, we changed the coffee machine home to a place next to a cabinet where we could keep beans, filters, etc. How a home functions is important! Thank you for all these wonderful ideas ❤

Wall anchors worked great in our last place, but somehow the walls here just really don't like them. I also want to try and avoid drilling any more holes, if I can avoid it. Also command strips, we're going to try them, but it says you're not supposed to use them on walls with a structure, or walls with wallpaper. And all of our walls are either one of these two.

@@SimpleHappyZen Hmm. Are your walls plaster, by any chance? My current home has plaster walls and wall anchors will just pop out. We've had pretty good luck with command strips, though. Just make sure to get the right size. Example: we have a pretty heavy metal art piece in our kitchen that has been hanging on a large command hook with the original strip under it for 8 years now.

Hi!! Yes, plaster walls. Although the funny thing is that in our previous apartment, we also had plaster walls, but we used wall anchors specifically for plaster walls and they worked really well there. But the same ones here just do a LOT of damage to the walls, and still pop out. Very frustrating, haha. I'll give the command strips a try. The thing with those however, is our walls either have wallpaper (that's painted, so it doesn't look like wallpaper, but it is) or a very coarse structure to them. And the command strips package says you can only use it on smooth surfaces (so not the structure walls) and not on wallpaper. Sooo.... I guess I'll just try haha and see if it works. The idea of not having to drill holes in the walls really speaks to me.

I find the 10 minute reset strategy is helpful for me to keep clutter under control; It piles up on itself and needs regular “pruning and upkeep “. And having designated spaces for things -while listening I’m trying your idea of trays, baskets, bowls to contain small everyday items (as long as only the items that belong there are contained)- loving the coffee and tea accessories on a tray❣️ brilliant and inspiring as always

Thank you Vera so much for these great tips. My favorite places in our home are the livingroom and our bedroom. The livingroom is neutral colors but RJ's recliner is a navy blue. The bedroom is also neutral colors and we have one picture hanging on the wall of nature a special place we have visited.❤

Wow, I am so glad I saw this video! Not only do you have phenomenal tips, but your way of presenting it is very calming (I am super stressed right now, so this was informative AND like therapy!). Thank you!!! I am going to follow these tips. My bedroom is my place of Zen, and there is nothing extraneous in there. But the rest of the house is cluttered in odd places and pristine in others. I'm a mess. 😁

Thank you Vera, as always, very helpful and uplifting video. What works for me very well is putting the amount of any item into relation to a certain tme frame. For example, we live in Ireland, where - surprise, surprise - it does rain a lot. And since we do not have a car and therefore walk everywhere, I can easily justify having three winter coats, so that two can dry out, while I wear the one that is dry. Or the five pairs of shoes, so I can keep one under my office desk and two or three to dry at home and still have one or two pairs at the ready for my next walk (mostly with our dog). Then again, since the weather is totally unpredicatable, I do not really have seasonal clothes, as the summers can be quite cold and wet (did I mention the rain yet?) and well as winters may be very mild for a few days in a row, I have all my clothes in my closet and pick things to wear from day to day. That means I only need items for seven to 14 days max all year long. So, the same dresses can be worn in summer as the only item which I wear in winter with thick tights, a shirt underneath and a comfy cardigan on top. Also the old saying, that time is money, helps me stay focused and minimal: As time is money, it is even more so true that money is or rather equals time: If I want to justify spending a certain amount on something, I have to really make sure that I can commit time-wise (as a single mum working full time to be exact) to getting my money's worth use out of it. And that is, truthfully, hardly ever the case. This is where libraby books come in handy, because it is no loss of money, if I do not read them (till the end). I think, that we forget very often that a nice set of crayons and a block of nice paper does have its price, but the price we spend on these items only buys us the material NOT the TIME to USE it. And this realization has stopped me in my tracks of buying something, which would in itself definitely have provided me with a lot of joy and inspiration in theory, but not realistically in my current everyday life. This is how I save a lot of money and keep my house mostly clutter free.

When it comes to good day, bad hair day. I go with what my natural hair is which is curley. If I want it straight, I find out what the weather is going to be like. Hot/humid days not good to have it straight. The humidity will not be favorable for it. I usually war it up and call it a day. Lol in winter cold and foggy or damp days is also hot good for straight hair. The same holds true for straight go curley. As a general rule weather dictates how the hair should go. Natural on hot/humid- cold/damp. Set up all other days. Hope it helps.

Hey Vera! Great video and very informative. I have realized just how the colors in a room can influence my mood. I think I will try applying the cool blues in my bedroom and leave the brighter colors to areas I want to feel productive. Also wondering if you can mix the two, like have a section of the room like my work-table which is also in my bedroom have all the brighter colors while having the bed have all blue duvet and pillows. Hmm... I will investigate! Thanks for another great tips and video and enjoy the rest of the week!😁

That's a tough one cause I'm in the process of deciding for repainting. I do favor a soft french provincial type of palette though. Cool or warm off whites, muted greens, blue, maybe a rose. The type of shades that have low contrast against white, taupey and lighter wood finishes. I like a slightly airy yet cozy, traditional look with no clutter! Lol. This is well timed.
