Roy Orbison had so many great songs. I imagine you must have heard " Pretty Woman " , he also did " Blue Bayou " way before Linda Ronstadt. But you should also check out the songs he collaborated on with Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne ( ELO ) , and Bob Dylan as " The Traveling Wilburys ".

I don't know if you noticed but if you listen to it again his voice starts out quite low and steadily rises in pitch. The highest non-falsetto notes are at the end. If you count falsetto he had a huge vocal range, even doing runs up and down while singing falsetto. Plus his tone was so pure and full that other famous singers were sometime intimidated by his voice.

I was born about the time that Mr. Orbison was hitting the pop charts. I grew in a house that was filled with a lot of different genres of music. I remember hearing this song in particular as a very young child. The reason being is that point when he hits that incredibly HIGH note on the word "Crying" near the end of the song. It just stuck in my memories. So beautiful and so powerful. What a song! What a singer! I am so glad to see younger people digging in to and enjoying the older music....and I was 'tickled' at your getting angry at the (implied) woman in the song. Wonderful reaction! God's Peace be with you and all here! ✌️

"Only The Lonely", "In Dreams" are a couple of other Orbison songs I think you'd like. Roy's voice is simply great! He was admired by many other artists for his voice and how emotive his vocals were. He was part of the Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. You'd probably enjoy a listen to them as well. Roy Orbison was a great singer/songwriter from the 50s/60s/70s. He didn't have pop-star looks, but his vocal range was astounding. His songs have been covered many times by many artists. Yes, Roy and Elvis along with a few other southern boys started at about the same time in what was commonly called Rock a Billy music, a blend of country and rock and roll. The way I took it, is she had already left him but they just happened to meet one day and she greeted him and shook his hand, (Girls and guys did that back in the "innocent age") just being cordial and friendly and "wished him well" as they were parting ways. But she couldn't tell that he actually had been missing her badly and crying. But he was hiding it. He realizes that he thought he was over her but upon seeing her again he realized he wasn't over her at all. And he says that she had no idea that when she touched his hand in greeting that day, it was killing him emotionally inside. "You don't understand that the touch of your hand can start me crying..."

If we all gave up the first time we are rejected, in any walk of life, in anything we do, we might as well give up. @@TheMaverick-zo5kv And, what if one of them can't get over it? Without understanding why just look at someone who was bullied at school, it can last a lifetime. That's the allegory to the song, you don't always get an explanation of what went wrong, and it doesn't mean it's your fault, but life carries on. But, you're implying, just avoid the situation, that is not always that easy, is it? Sometimes the best thing to do, speak the truth and resolve it as soon as possible, it can seem like the end of the world to some people. who can't just brush things off?

Elvis and many other big name wanted to jam with Roy right into the eighties. Many of the songs he wrote were about him self and yes she did go back to him but died in a motor accident,it was his wife.

I started listening to Orbison songs in the early 60's as a young teen. Didn't realize how great each song was until I was much older. Simone - If you liked this song listen to "Running Scared". You don't know the how the story ends until the very last word in the song. My favorite.

There is a story, that I don't know if it is true or not, where Elvis was asked what it was like to be the greatest singer in the world. He replied, I don't know, ask Roy Orbison. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Jerry Lee Lewis used to tour together back in their Sun Records days. Listen to Roy's last hit before his death, You Got It. He still had it.

Roy Orbison came from the same recording studio that launched Eivis ,. Sun Studios . Elvis called Roy the greatest singer in the world . Unfortunately, Roy had some real tragedy in his life....His wife and child both died in a house fire , I believe . Roy's biggest hit song was Pretty Woman.

To put into perspective just how great Roy was on the 60s: he once opened up for the Beatles in Scotland and they had to stop him from doing a third encore so that the Beatles could take the stage. The promoter didn't know who he was and thought he was just some gimmick act from the US. He was very wrong.

That range, no wonder no body tries to cover his songs on the Voice, the ones where he hits and holds the high notes..he was a machine, perfect pitch and could change notes so easy..

I got the impressions that they just ran into each other. She didn't want to avoid him. That might be more rude if they saw each other but I could be wrong. Just always thought that. He had a lot of hits in the 60s as mentioned below. He has a unique voice. THank you for reacting.

It was once said about Roy Orbison, "He was the only opera singer in rock and roll!" (Listen to other songs he's done here on you tube) I think John Lennon was quoted as saying that. I thought it funny how you referenced Elvis Presley, he and Roy were friends and Elvis thought the world' of Roy. Somebody asked Elvis one time, "How does it feel to be the best singer in the world?" Elvis replied, "I don't know, ask Roy!"

Truly one of the greatest and most unique voices ever. Roy is a legend. And yea, Orbison started out in the early era of Rocknroll and continued on until his death before the Traveling Wilburys second album in the early 90s. The TW, a supergroup truly, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn from ELO. Lynn, one of the best producers ever and Harrison produced the albums. A collection of some of the greatest song writers that ever lived, where each member was able to contribute either writing or playing/singing. Both albums well worth checking out along with Orbison’s vast individual catalog.
