This is the first of a four part series that has us travelling in a group to the Simpson Desert. We do the crossing from West to East but first we must make it to the Desert. In this video we leave our home in Adelaide South Australia and travel to the Oodnadatta Pink Roadhouse before making our way through to the Painted Desert. From the we head just north of Marla where we camp for the night.

I'd love to see that part of Australia. My wife of 26 years was raised in Melbourne and most of her family now lives in the Brisbane area. I've driven from Melbourne to Brisbane and have gone a bit further up the coast on excursions while staying in Brisbane but have never been inland. I am a big fan of desert racing and would love to come down and watch the Tatts Finke race. You would enjoy a trip down the Baja peninsula. I live in Arizona but go down there as often as I can. I'm headed down next week for an 8 day tour. Lots of history, relatively affordable, plenty of dirt roads (only one paved road that runs from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas), and the Mexican people are super friendly. I've enjoyed your trucking videos. When my parents retired my father bought a Volvo VNL630 and converted it then licensed it as a motor home. They travelled around the states for 10 years in that truck towing a 37ft Teton 5th wheel behind it. It seems Australian still has a good level of professionalism with its truck drivers.

Wow!! Thank you so much for taking me on this trip as I am loving it!! I have never been any further than Hawker, back in the late 1970s but I come from NSW. so it is a long way. The roads were much better than I expected them to be but those painted mountains took my breath away!! I also didn't expect to see a river full of water. No one was a fisherman! Yes, a good camp fire makes all the difference to a trip. Definitely nice to go with like-minded friends. I am very much looking forward to your next video!! The videos go much too quickly as they are so enjoyable to watch especially when you are able to put the drone up & show us what the land looks like from up above. What a wonderful country we live in.

Great video! Done quite a bit of that but not for many years and never the Simpson and sadly Birdsville was flooded so we had to dodge it too. Never mind hopefully a few years left to get it done. What a great variety of setups, plenty of options for anyone considering camping out. Looks like youre all having fun and thats the whole point of a trip like this. Cheers Cheryl 🙂

The Painted Desert (Arckaringa Hills) is a pastoral lease. Currently no entry fees. For the viewers, the Arckaringa Hills are 150 km north of Coober Pedy. The heritage area begins near Arckaringa homestead and stretches to the north and east, including Mount Arckaringa, Mount Andrews and parts of Arckaringa creek. You can access the region either from Stuart Highway, or the Oodnadatta Track.

Great part 1 video Mick. The drone footage essential for flat land like that outback. What were the 2 planes standing on their tails about, I may have missed what you said? On a windy night, how do the people sleeping in the roof mounted campers get on, sea sick? Certainly a vast flat country. Like the campfires, great atmosphere. Cheers from NZ.

@justcruisinwithmicksally837 11 ай бұрын
The two planes are part of a Sculpture Park that was created for a reason I am not familiar with other than it is one man's creation over many years. The roof top campers never complained out the wind during the trip so I have to assume it was all good up there.🤔 We really enjoyed this trip with the group that we were with.

Really enjoyed this, we've done the Oodnadatta twice and the Birdsville once as part of family road trips during and post COVID, and sitting here in suburban Adelaide it was so nice to instantly recognise many spots before you even announced what they were. "Oh yep that must be the turn off to Coward Springs" and so on. I was transported back to our travelling days! So thank you. Can I ask how you did the little map animation early on, showing the route you went on with your vehicle icon travelling along and the distance travelled? I've wanted to do that sort of thing but haven't known how! Cheers, Greg

28:50 it is an offence to interfere with native wildlife, in all jurisdictions, especially by handling them. Please don't take standing dead wood, as birds and lizards use them to perch and survey. When taking fallen dead wood, always check for hollows as small marsupials will often be protected by these hollows. Cheers, Stu
