4x4 TrekOZ, off-road gear and good times. My channel covers, four wheel driving, chatting about off-road gear, camping, some fishing, a little cooking and good times. The plan is to talk to the camera like I am talking to you. My longer trips are more about the journey than the destination, staying one or two nights in each spot chatting as we go. Currently I work full time with retirement coming mid 2025. Until then my trips will be monthly, post retirement, I'm planing on living on the road for large parts of the year. I do my best to post 3 or 4 vids each month, post retirement I'm aiming to post twice each week. Welcome, I hope you enjoy. You can find me on Facebook, Instagram and KZfaq. Just search Wayne Groomes, Land and Bay Fishing or 4x4 TrekOZ Overland. Thanks for watching.

Gidday Wayne, I just found you today snd have enjoyed this Simpson series. The Simpson is one of my favourite places in the world, I’m lucky enough to have crossed it 4 times & each and every time was completely different. Like yourself I like to travel slow but definitely prefer to be on the track first up (early) because that’s when you catch the wildlife. It once took us 15 days to cross travelling Solo because we got caught in the rain. A real experience. Be careful what you wish for with the Camels & Dromedaries. One night on a solo crossing I was harassed by a Bull Camel who was looking for a mate…….he terrorised me for hours & I sought refuge inside my Troopy ……. He even managed to damage some camping gear, very aggressive 😂 Thanks for the tour of the DMax, looks very comfortable. On the tour I didn’t notice where you kept your fire extinguisher(S)? I always check with people to see where they keep their extinguishers & fire blankets (Ret. Emergency Services). Great trip mate, thanks for sharing 👍👍👍

Gday GR8T. Only my first crossing but definitely won’t be my last. Two fire extinguishers. One under my feet in the cab the other in the back. Glad you liked the videos. Thanks for the comment.

Just because I can, I'll comment about 0:06. I once thought that 1.20 a litre up at Archer River was steep and thought of it as a rort. I lived near Cooktown, which at the time was charging between 1.60 and 1.70 a litre. But then I met a woman who owned a Roadhouse at the Bloomfield River who charged $1.82 a litre, and discovered that she had to pay for a minimum of 10000 litres in advance at $1.80 a litre. They basically made nothing on the fuel because it cost them electricity to pump it as well as the usual expenses of a roadhouse. I now fully understand why outback fuel is so expensive. An interesting thing I discovered when Brisbane fuel first went up to $1.20 a litre was that Cooktown, Bloomfield, and other servos within 200km of that area were still under 2 bucks a litre. The flow-on effect hadn't yet happened. I shudder to think how much a litre of unleaded is at Cooktown today. Transport is an expensive addition.

Yep happy to pay a little extra in isolated places. Just happy that they are there for us.

great video so far ! 🏜️🛻🤙😎 just out of curiosity have you used your UHF radio much when remote besides talking to passing convoys ? just for radio checks to test range when u haven't seen a car in sight for a while ?? and when flat terrain what has ur radio and antenna setups communication distance been roughly if u know ?

It buggered the thread. The UHF radio is about 10 years old so not the greatest that’s for sure. On the beach I have a range of about 500 to 1000 meters.

Quick question, Wayne. Would you even consider taking a hi-lift 2x4 over the track? Asking for a friend...LOL

@@CanopyCampingAustralia I'll see what the weather is like before I head in that direction. I'm still not set up yet so we'll see. Sand would be the biggest issue with only rear wheel drive. Maybe some fat tyres at 10psi...
