I picked this up a few weeks ago knowing the pump didn't work correctly. However the seller lied saying it would build pressure for 3 minutes then stop. In reality he melted the check valves by running the motor and not squeezing the trigger to let water through the pump.
After new check valves it was back to running, however when I separated the pump head I lost an o-ring and thought I needed to do the seals too. In the end I did check valves, high pressure/low pressure seals and a HIDDEN O-ring(not in the parts diagram)....

Very helpful! My old valves were very stuck in there. I was able to get them out by using the extractor - hitting it hard like you show, then I clamped the top of the extractor with my vise and hit on the valve body with my hammer. This was the only thing that got them out, not wiggling and pulling with the pliers. Just in case anyone else has some really stuck ones...

Great video! I appreciate the detailed walk through! I got mine back together nicely (2 weeks in between taking apart and getting time to put parts in). Only problem i have now is water is not flowing though the pump normally. It’s like there’s a blockage and I have 1/2 the flow rate I should. Checked the overload, pump cycles good, all looks great. I removed the hose/gun and water dribbles out when the garden hose is on full. Can’t figure it out.

Maybe check the water inlet filter or the water supply? I’ve had issues with those before…I’ve even had ones that the water filter was so plugged no water was going into the pump

Thanks for doing this video. Especially the part about the small o-ring. My Simpson 3300 pressure washer (Pressure washer model MS60921 and pump model 7109377 10-16 Rev0) was leaking from the pump and I contacted Simpson and they recommended the water seal kit which did not include the small o-ring you referenced. The original kit probably needed to be replaced but as you indicated, it did not resolve the issue with water leaking from the pump. The solution was replacing that small o-ring which I ended up getting in a set of 225 o-rings from harbor freight for $4.99. It's odd that the schematic doesn't show that small o-ring and the Simpson customer service techs don't mention it. I guess they are not technicians so wouldn't know. Once again, thank you for doing the video and the troubleshooting. I probably could have also just replaced the small o-ring and it would have fixed the leaking problem without needing a water seal kit also. Just finished pressure washing the concrete patio for 30 minutes without any leaks. Thanks again.

Thank you, my small o-ring fell out too (11:00), how stupid. I have no idea what that even does it leads to channels that drain out the bottom of the pump/gearbox interface.

this happens when you start them without water hooked up or when you let them ideal to long without useing it the temp pop off valves go bad them pumps over heat

Thank you for the video. I’m having trouble with my Simpson pressure washer when I release my hand from the trigger wand the engine dies or shut off. do you have an idea what the problem is?

Appreciate your helpful videos. I have a Simpson MS61217 pressure washer with an OEM 520004 pump on it (PW is supposed to be rated for 3100psi and 2.3GM). I put a pressure gauge inline at the output of the pump and ran tests with the included red tip. Not coming close to the 3100psi on the label! 2500psi max. I expected a margin of error, but not that big. Is there a way I can manually adjust these OEM pumps?

So the whole pressure thing is pretty scammy...lots of units have over stated pumps. I've literally bought units that say 3300 PSI and the pump was rated at 3100 from the manufacturer. You can increase the pressure by three ways that I know: Increase the speed of the motor(I don't recommend this unless you know what your doing) decrease the tip orifice size or adjust the unloader. To find the recommended orifice size google "pressure washer orifice chart" and you will see the recommended orifices for your pump PSI and GPM. The unloader is the thing w/ the big spring or has a black/clear rubber/plastic cap on it. You might be able to tighten it to increase pressure. Pretty much the upper limit is tightened so when you let off the trigger the motor struggles to run, then back it off a bit. I wouldn't worry that much about pressure, as long as the unit is doing what you need it doesn't really matter on a homeowner unit like this, my meaning is you're going to get better performance having the correct turbo nozzle/surface cleaner/accessories rather then worry about 600 PSI difference. If you're using a surface cleaner make sure you get one rated for your unit, if it's similar to this one in the video the $65 dollar karcher one from amazon is about the best you can get. If you're looking for a turbo nozzle use the chart and buy one with that orifice size. I would NOT recommend buying tips/surface cleaner/turbo nozzle that says "up to 4500 PSI" as that's usually what the big box stores carry and are a much larger orifice size then most people would need. If you're gonna use a pressure washer for a while get an AR or other good brand turbo nozzle, One last thing, if you find the pump isn't doing what you need you can always replace it with a higher grade unit, I personally like the Canpump 3000 psi @ 3.1 US gpm, 3/4-in Shaft Pressure Washer Pump as an economical replacement.

How do you remove the 3 brass inserts in the head of the pump? The one that sits over the nozzels.

I believe they use an Allen key, I don't remember if they are metric or standard but I believe they are metric. A lot of times they strip out since they are corroded in the pump head and might just strip out.

In all honestly I don't know. I sold the unit after repairing it. I'm sure as long as the new owner ran it with water and kept the trigger depressed it's still working great. I think those pumps are rated for 150+ hours of usage.

First, thank you for your time. However, your video would be enormously more helpful if you were in frame. I know you believe most people know what they’re doing, but we don’t, or we wouldn’t be searching for KZfaq videos on HOW TO repair a pressure washer pump.
