Do not weep for not being Irish. The women of Ireland have long shown us the way forward. Have long carried the suffering and the men, the heroes, have long been in awe of their female comrades. There is romance, true, but there is a spirit deep down, like a rod of steel that runs through every Irish woman I have ever met. If only I had their steel I would be a better man than am, hero an all that I are.

Sinead virtually destroyed her career by speaking out against abuse within Catholic Church. At the time. she was ridiculed, reviled and dismissed as some kind of freak. She was proved right in the end. An incredibly brave woman, who sacrificed so much to tell the truth.

I was watching when she did that on live television. I was dumbfounded with respect for her courage; unfortunately, too many others had a problem with it.

I was raped not by one, not by two but by three Roman Catholic priests by the age of 11 and in two different parishes. When my mother spoke out and complained to the cardinal we both were excommunicated. Then one evening I watched as this woman on TV tore up a picture of the man who I had written in a letter begging for a reversal of that excommunication and who denied it on grounds that my original complaint constituted blasphemy. She was the very first person who ever stood up for me outside of my family. Today I remain excommunicated because I refuse to withdraw my accusations against the three priests who raped me. The original cardinal, cardinal Richard Cushing of Boston, stated that making such a complaint constituted blasphemy and said in his original letter to me that the priests in question claimed that I attempted to seduce them. I was ten when it first happened. This is the mindset of the Catholic church. She has been my hero ever since that night almost thirty years ago. If I lived anywhere near her grave there would never be a day it wasn't covered in fresh flowers.

Such incomparable beauty from a much and cruelly wronged woman. She spoke truth, but most of us would not listen. She asked for justice, and we answered with ridicule and derision. I will remember and honor your pain and virtue, lovely Sinaed, as I live with my shame.

I can't believe this. I know the general meaning of this song, and the first time I listened to it was in Barry Lyndon. But Sinéad... I don't really know what the words mean, but she made me drop some tears. She sings to the heart, and I love your true language, Irish People. I find that we, the spanish and the irish are alike in many aspects. Music is one. ;)

She's mentally ill, Dear Luis, and great as God is, he does not take something from you without giving you something. Thus, in this woman's voice is the reflection of the totality of existence and, somehow, against all odds, a reasonable projection of that. This performance defies reasonable expectations. Fortunately, those her were accompanying her not only understood what is in this song, they recognized how they had to support her at it.

Better a battered career rather than a battered spirit. Not to speak is like (her song for Dolly Parton) a dagger through the heart. She walked tall and carried a big stick. She did not give up. I admire her for that. I loved her voice from the beginning and I will until the end...although, there is no end as the end is only the beginning. Listening to her, I now know why the caged bird sang...and why she chose to be bald.

Hi, mise aris ,there was a contribution by leopolis concerning the genre of this High Classical piece of Irish poetry ,now, it has absolutely nothing to do with Irish Rebel music, however worthy that may be ,Wikipedia just made a hames of the explanation, It really is about the many types of Women in Ireland, in their praise with love ,written in early eighteenth century ,so it is two hundred years old ,still going strong, I do also like Sinead O Connor's version
