Funny how that term calling MK11 Twindel fits now in this narrative with Sindel fighting herself here. NRS may have done shifty business in their writing but not aware of fans reaction to that. Also what's up with your buddy and his mindsight with power scaling? Like granted we see Twindel bodying many of the warriors including Liu Kang I could get but Mileena fighting Raiden is bullshit? Yes he is a demi-god but his main stem of his powers as we see is his electricity,teleportation & flight and he's under Titan Shang Tsung's commands! Not as much we see in the last chapter where every timeline titan character fight each other on top the tower in an even playing field where everyone goes out against some collaborations of fighters like Johnny Khan & Clockodile (that one actually is my favorite and got me laughing so hard! XD).

I agree. Dark Raiden with Dark Sindel Kameo beaten by Mileena & Kameo Tanya was just stupid. I know NRS is heavily pushing for MileenaXTanya but my god at least keep the power scaling in mind when you pit the characters against each other. With the whole Kameo system helping to justify weaker characters beating stronger opponents with a stronger Kameo; they still made this blunder.

I don't know why people keep acting surprised by thatm Power Scaling is MK is NEVER consistent. It always hinges on who the main focus characters are

i watched the story on youtube and yeah that is pretty much it. when liu kang gets the other titans together, they just teleport to the final battle and that's it. the last act was really rushed, they should have just ended it on a cliffhanger and have the next game be the set up for that final fight.

Basically rising over to the top, then stay neutral, and dropped, but not as bad as MK11 drop though

Right!!!! It was so weird, how can Mileena along with Tanya be able to defeat Dark Raiden along with Sindel Kameo. They should've at least had Fire God Liu Kang as Mileena's Kameo to make sense. The whole character chapter system ruins NRS potential story telling. Imagine if this was not character specific. We could've had actual reasonable matchups with Good Sindel vs Dark Sindel and could've given Kitana some playable matches with the likes of Reiko, Nitara etc

One thing this game hasn’t fixed is that the antagonists are jobbers. Even Aftermath Shang Tsung never wins a fight.

This is like when Cassie Cage in MKX where she almost got killed by Ferra/Torr, but somehow she beat Corrupted Shinnok 🤨

This Mileena has around 10k more years of experience than the Mileena from the old timeline tho (who died before her 30th year).

It's strange that they got rid of tag chapters, the character chapter system is not good, but at least they should keep what little improvements they make.

@@alexandre9563 There are some reasons I could think of. 1) They were too lazy to create since tag chapters required unique interaction for each fighter for example - Liu Kang vs Scorpion had unique pre fight dialogue & post fight cutscene compared to Kung Lao vs Scorpion. 2) Since the Kameo system is implemented it's easier to have the other character as Kameo for the matchups (the most probable reason) That being said; Character exclusive chapter system is the worst part of NRS story telling, it ruins important fight, power scaling and refuses to give the antagonists victories which makes the villains pathetic.

@@himanshugamre3918 the kameo system seems the more likely reason to me, even though they could just have the unpicked character be the kameo. And yeah, that chapter nonsense has to go. Either make a story for each (group of) character(s) covering their involvement in the game, or just write a script first and let the player control whoever has to fight (and win). It's not like the computer will combo the player to death because they don't play as the same character for the 4th time in a row. Our glorious 4thSnake already addressed this bullshit system in his dedicated video, but since most casual players want to watch a shitty power ranger movie and don't care about the actual plot they are watching, Netherrealm won't ever change their ways. At least the arcade endings serve some purpose here unlike MK11.

​@@alexandre9563 Yeah, Character chapters are the reason we never got complete closure to many characters in previous games. In MK1 because of this system; in story mode we never got to play Kung Lao with his razor hat & Kenshi with sento. If the game didn't have character specific chapters, then we could've gotten Kung Lao against Tanya/Rain in Kenshi's chapter or Kenshi vs Ermac in Ashrah's chapter. They could've also had General Shao beat Johnny, Kenshi & Kung Lao in the tournament to make Shao look like a threat against his final battle with Raiden.

@@himanshugamre3918 The tournament is quite a joke in MK9 and this one indeed. By making an archaic linear story, they missed the opportunity to let the player actually experience the tournament. Like, have your fighters, have the enemy team to defeat, and let the tournament happen with you selecting your remaining kombatants and try not to fail Earthrealm. I guess there's some work around to do to make Liu Kang the champion at the end, but I think the story should be more interactive than just the fighting that is already programmed in the game with cinematics in between. Having key cinematics scenes is cool and all, but letting the player explore an area, maybe having to train to unlock moves (exclusives to the story or not), finding stuff, that would be cool and engaging. I think I'm going off the track with this, but I'm quite sad to read some people talk about a "story mode" because it is cinematic, like you can't tell something or build a world without it (something Deception seems to be doing great but I have not played it). ...but if they keep the cinematic stuff because people like this, at least they can try to make a good movie and not a series of episodes/chapters about one guy each.

Its Mortal Kombat someone has to die if not brutally wounded. And with how going through thw entirety of the story mode no one has died until the closing chapters with only this timeline Sindel and the multitude of paraell of other timelines Titans in the final chapter. And there berely being any major conflict with the only 3 main villians that so called "Lord Liu Kang" supposedly had made them not as evil in the first place.

What really fucks it up for me is Liu Kang being the reason for everything being different. Why did Liu Kang make all the villains have horrible lives, therefore filling them with resentment, instead of just killing them all? Why did he nonetheless allow Shao Kahn, Reiko, and Rain attain huge positions of power? Why did he turn Tarkatans from a race to a mutagenic virus? Why did he erase Hanzo and the Shirai Ryu, except for Harumi, who I guess is Kuai Liang's age now and probably fucking him, and then remake Hanzo as some random orphan kid who gets taken in by Kuai Liang and Smoke? Kuai Liang named the Shirai Ryu for Harumi and could have picked up the skill there, but why is arrogant Bi Han, who sees all others as inferior to the Lin Kuei using a katanas Kuai Liang's arcade ending; does former Shaolin monk Liu Kang not know the difference between China and Japan?

@@VelvetVexations He probably intended to give Shang and Quan-Chi humble lives the same way Kung-Lao and Raiden were backwater farmers. The only indications that they had "horrible" lives was their own complaining, and we all know the sorcerers are extremely entitled and narcicistic.

Sindel here is a bit stricter, but that’s because she has a lot to deal with as a ruler, especially after her husband died, one of her daughters got infected, and she was being betrayed. But for the most part they gave her the core of her character back, which is being benevolent (except to enemies who threaten Outworld and her family) despite her being peak goth. Aka don’t judge a book by its cover.

It may not be as harsh as previous one due to the fact that first half was really good. Third act was a bit rushed and kind of mixed bag, but fourth act was just dumb (and that's probably where Snake will unleash hell). Basically, something similar to his Injustice 2 review.

At least it's MILES better than MK11, but that's not really a high hill to cross over to begin with. That, and they almost stumbled over it too since they're *involving the multiverse with the first game of the new timeline*

Nah bro this shit's worst then 11, people are still on the honeymoon phase. The ideas were interesting but none of them lead anywhere and for anything to happen at all the characters had to be dumbed down at every point they tried to make a decision. Thats besides the "Your favorite characters in situations like never before!" for them to be identical characters from before, in a different situation, so that the plot could be about how "actually they cant change that much, its fate!!!", where only a select few are really different. Don't doubt they'll try to reboot again in a few years.

I don’t think it will be brutal like MK11’s review. I think it will be more like DC’s Injustice 2 review. Not a perfect story with lots of flaws, but it’s decent. Clearly miles better than both MK11 and (Specially) MKX imo.

@@fewef32f Literally everything you cited that MK11 did, MK1 did as well, with the exception that this time the worst voice actor is in a character that they brought back only to disrespect, instead of a mainstay. And thats without considering that Megan Fox did such a clearly worst job then Honda people are wondering if Nitara is the worst dubbed character from NRS. MK11 disrespected them more? When literally every villain this time around is a jobber with no exception (and some, like Reiko, look like they came from comedy skits) and their entire plan is actually devised by MK11 Shang Tsung instead of themselves? Their plot relevance was to literally buy time until they transformed the ending into MCU's What If. Even the Tournament, the thing the very first Mortal Kombat is supposed to be about, is in the plot just to kill time. And thats not even the worst part, cause yeah, the characters DID finish their character arcs. Mileena's, Johnny's, Kenshi's, Bi-Han's, Kuai Liang's, hell, even Kung Lao was just born more humble in this timeline then he was on the last, except they skipped the part where they were supposed to develop throughout the events of the game and instead came out of the oven already baked. All because they NEEDED the MCU ending instead of actually climaxing the character's arcs in a way that made sense. And thats without considering characters that didnt have any arc at all, since, just like in 11, most characters (even the ones who had an "arc") didnt actually did anything on the plot or had their relevance thrown out the window by the halfway point. But I get it, people are still on the honeymoon phase, "omg they removed special forces the plot now is good" and all. Its just like MK11 on launch all over again

It’s a new timeline so Bi Han being evil isn’t a complete disservice to the character. Honestly, I’m just glad Bi Han survived this game and will actually be important in future games.

But from a gameplay standpoint, it made me conflicted because I'm more familiar with and favoring Kuai Liang-Sub Zero (Because yes, unlike most MK fans who seem to favor darker characters, I like goody two shoes a lot, especially when they wield my favorite element). Yes, Kuai Liang still exists as Scorpion and I like Scorpion too, but... it just doesn't feel the same. I'll still say that I take 'Eviler Bi-Han' much better than Twindel, but the way the story portrays it, they make Bi-Han a bit closer to the 'lowest of scumbags' like both Frost and Twindel herself, so that's what makes me feel conflicted. Like if I want to fight as Sub-Zero, I have to be playing the 'lowest of scumbags'. Gone will be the days I play as the heroic ice man (No, I am not specifically hoping for a DLC of 'Kuai Liang as Sub-Zero, picked from another timeline', if I hope and that is not fulfilled, that leads to further disappointment).

I would say Chapter 13 is the point you could say it turns bad. But to me, it's so goofy and over the top, which is like the bread and butter of MK, that I think it still works. Mortal Kombat has always had a sense of humor with the absurd, and I think they were really playing into that with the ending scene. It's like a fan fiction in the worst, or best possible way depending on how you look at it
