@Dan Gurău The Germans offered an autonomous kingdom in the territories regained by the Russians. Russia, on the other hand, could offer autonomy in all Polish lands.Ultimately, there were more Polish troops on the side of the Entente than on the side of the Central Powers

@@Komisarz_Bart i see that this eternal debate still continues after 100 years. In the end result poles fought on every side of the front commonly resulting in foghts between polish units in diffrent sides olny realising what happend when dying where saying their last words. I have no bone in the disscusion as my great grandfather was forced into service in german army (he was born in opole/oplen) and died during battle of verdun. Same fate awaited his son in normandy due to the same unfortunate fact. One major diffrence -kaiser's army had a decency to pay the widow after he died, while h-man army declared him MIA despite not recovering bodies of any of them.

As here are shared stories of grandfathers and war I can only share that many. I don’t know my families history very much. Sadly. But I know two stories The father of my grandmother on the motherly side was drafted into the war to fight on the eastern front, my grandmother did only know him from fotos. After the war every month or so groups of soldiers came back, desolated and devastated but my great-grandfather wasn’t with them. So my grandmothers mother lost hope that he would come back and when it was shouted: „Heimkehrer“ ( homecomer) she did no more to put to the street. One day, five years after the war she sat in the living room when my grandmother heard the Bell and came to look, but when she opened the Door she did not see that good looking young man in that dashing uniform but a shadow of a man, thin as a skeleton, tatters as clothes, not even proper shoes but piece of cloth wrapped his foot (the other foot had a shoe). And his face wasnrt shaved or cared for with shreds of hair growing where a Beard would in other people and his hair was grayed out. She screamed of course and ran into her bedroom hiding beneath her bed. Her mother came and recognized her husband. It took some time for my grandmother to get over it that this man is here father. It can be assumed that he was held in the Siberian gulags as most German soldiers were. And that he walked back the entire way, but he never spoke about the war or the time in Russia. I never met him. My great-grandfather on the one of the sides of my father. Also fought in the war, he was a tank commander once a grenade landed in his tank he left as the last person but his leg was stuck, when the grenade went up he did not have a leg anymore. (Well actually he did but it needed to be amputated) he had a wooden leg and got Alzheimer or the other thing that works Similar. I did meet him about two times or so and eventhough i remembered tos till Be very small I was interested in his Leg. And fascinated. But i don’t know much more, he died some time after that. So I could not speak with him when I was older. (Even though I was a little Brat for quite some time, disrespectful to old music and at all older stuff and also disrespectful to my grandparents on the fatherly side. Well I changed that in the last years the problem is my grandfather who died less then a year ago already also had Alzheimer (or that other thing). I feel sorry for that. The older brother of my grandfather (or grandmother) was forced into the Volkssturm. Sent to die basically. But on the Train his shoes were stolen, so the officer sent him back saying he could not serve that way, and so he escaped the slaughter to this day (the relatives which I don’t know exactly as I shamefully have to admit) thank the thieve of his shoes.

Refren: Maszerują strzelcy, maszerują, Karabiny błyszczą, szary strój, a przed nimi drzewce[a] salutują, Bo za naszą Polskę idą w bój!

The polish, well what can you say nice culture and stuff, but taking west prussia in WW1 even due we somewhat freed them wasn’t nice and to force the Germans of their homes is something I do not really like either, well we ain’t did that nice things over there too, but a wrong doing never is rightfully because another happens except maybe if it happens to the same excact person and not to innocents. Today i would say let’s be friends but I would really appreciation getting some rightful territory back. (I would say in an exchange we could support your claims on Your former eastern land, but that would overall lead to some nuklear kabooms in the end I think)

Well, you are right. It sure wasn't a nice thing taking what belonged to Poland before 1795. Two wrongs don't make a right. Sure, some western territories that we didn't even have a choice in selecting shouldn't be a part of us, like Stettin. The Polish Corridor, however, was Polish and will forever be Polish, not to mention the Kashubians that live there too who have a close tie with Polish Culture. Even if we were to give you "your" land back the amount of PL people, industry, businesses etc. that reside there would make a lot of things redundant. Not to mention the fact that Poles since the 11th century occupied many of the territories we have now. Since you want to go back to a period of time, after 1795, what stops me from demanding the borders of Poland to be 11th century-like?
@adamtutaj1220

These areas were Polish and Poles regained them. At that time, no one was banishing the Germans. It wasn't only after 1945 and for good reason! After 1939, the Germans chased Poles away, and then what they did themselves returned to the Germans

@sergeantsharkseant

@ArtDajso the thing is that Westernprussia is neither solely German nor polish but there are both especially the northern parts were more German so I would morsels splitt it a bit but that is again awkward as far as I know most polish settlements were in the middle so either we give poles German territory, (is unfair) or Germans polish territory(also unfair) or we create border gore, except we would slpitt in in half so Germans gets the north and Polish the south. So there would be a few poles in German territory and vice versa. And if you want to got that far back as 11th century , some might argue inter antique the Germans were the Central European Germanic tribes, which also inhabited many polish regions, but that is already to far back to make sense so it doesn’t matter.
