Singalong version of “Yankee Doodle Dandy” by George M. Cohan. This song, also known as “The Yankee Doodle Boy,” was originally published in 1904 and is in the public domain. We created a new recording for this video.
Cohan wrote the song, including two verses, for the Broadway musical “Little Johnny Jones.” The chorus was famously sung by James Cagney playing Cohan in the 1942 film “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” This version follows the lyrics as sung by Gene Autry.
Lyrics:
I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy,
Yankee Doodle do or die.
A real life nephew of my Uncle Sam,
Born on the Fourth of July.
I’ve got a Yankee Doodle sweatheart.
She’s my Yankee Doodle joy.
Yankee Doodle came to town,
Just to ride the ponies.
I am a Yankee Doodle Boy.
