Who here remembers Jackie Robinson in 2024! Oh, I may be old, but I was such a strong young boy. Me and pep bred horses and I would have to hold their heads steady - big, strong heads! Oh they were strong and so beautiful! Many cheers, thanks and happy days from Nebraska!

I remember when this song first came out, Oh I was just a kid! Me and my pep went to see the horses play, and this played on the large gramophone! Wonderful rendition, warms my heart, wish they still made great American songs like this 🎉❤ so pretty and reminds me of the good days - you know, before real horse breeding became illegal. Those horses were so strong and handsome, great brooding creatures. Many cheers and thanks!

An 80 year old Dutch born Kiwi now living in Denmark (married to a Dane) has just heard the Italian version of "Funiculi Funicula" on Danish classical programme. It triggered me to go back to my NZ primary school days when our song lessons were through the well-functioning Broadcast to Schools programmes. That's when I learned the English version "Funiculi Funicula" ! And it stayed withme ever since!

I just saw Il Volo perform this song in Neapolitan at their concert. I remember learning this song (in English) in 6th grade music class. So I scoured the Internet to find the English version. To my surprise, there are many English versions of this song. This version is the closest to the one I learned in 6th grade. The only line that was different was when you sang, “Listen Listen”... I learned it was “Harken, harken...”

@@songssmiles Wait, funiculi and funicula are English words? I have never heard of them outside the title of the song itself. Can you tell me what they mean please? Im curious
@songssmiles
@songssmiles Жыл бұрын
@@FewVidsJustComments Funiculi and Funicula are Italian words, the only Italian words included in this English-language version. The original Italian lyrics were written to celebrate the opening of the first funicular railway on Mount Vesuvius. It's a type of cable railway system that connects points along a railway track laid on a steep slope. So, funiculí means "funicular up" and funiculá means "funicular down," but in the English-language version they just become fun words to sing!
