Singapore's success today is no fluke; rather, it is the result of deliberate and strategic planning, effective governance, and pragmatic policies.

Not to forget our other founding fathers such as Goh Keng Swee and S Rajaratnam. Their contribution to the country is equally important 😊

Singapore is nothing but a modern day miracle. Surrounded by hostile muslim neighbours, no natural resources, not much land and not much capital to start with since the Brits took most of Singapore's wealth back with them, Singapore turned from a backwater 3 world country to a modern day miracle in 1 generation solely on the back of sheer will by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and the tenacity, hardwork and sacrifice of ordinary Singaporeans at that time. Unfortunately this tenacity is lost on some of the younger generation of Singaporeans today who are often pampered, well fed and well taken care of today.

@@mingzmings88 before the arrival of british and our forefathers, Singapore was nothing but a small fishing village. Strategic location means nothing without infrastructure. British planned the infrastructure, our firefathers built those infrastructure. And hence Singapore is what it is

@@NewmaticKe The younger generation is more self-serving. You look at the govt, generation after generation and you can see the differences.

A visionary leader, no corruption, hardworking & well educated citizens. Many countries died due to rampant corruption lead by their leaders.

@4:23 I think this is the SIA pilot strike in 1980. Negotiations between the Management and pilots broke down and the pilot strikes brought the airlines to its knees. LKY gave the pilots an ultimatum. Get back to work and negotiate or get lost.

Singapore greatest advantage is it's strategic location in Malacca strait. If it's location is in say east Timor, it probable won't be rich.

No, it sits at one of the world most important transit point . Singapore takes full advantage of it's location where goods from Europe, middle east and Asia good moves around. The cold war also made it more important.

Johore shares the same geo location with Singapore and if I was not wrong, have at least 2 ports there to compete with Singapore. The question is, why despite higher operation costs, Singapore ports still excel?!
