Honestly I think Hafizah completed within her budget if you exclude her expenditure on treating her friends dinner, buying snacks for the family and gifting her niece. Last time secondary school so poor who does this kind of treating and usually if parents ask you to buy food, they'll give extra money. Very weird to be stingy now

Actually, I think none of them really “broke” the rules for this challenge. Cause during secondary school, we don’t really pay for our own doctor fees, meals, buying toys for our family. Students simply buy recess meal that cost $5< then head home for lunch and dinner.

Back in 1994, I was a Sec 4 student, survived on $2/day. On some days I could save some shillings. Fast forward to 2021, I budget for my son who is in Sec 4 - $8/day (on most days he has 2 recess). On stretch days where he has remedial/CCA, I will give him a bit more.

i didnt factor in parents money and insurance in my spendings and i spend around $500-$600 as well so i think its a reasonable amount? and i think chow is someone who can cook so she prolly saves some money on that too. also, if you made up your mind to be thrifty, $500 is totally enough for a month, so that might be chow. Spending $1k on clothing and entertainment etc is definitely not the acts of someone who is thrifty - not trying to be rude but idk how to make it sound nicer, but yes essentially my point is those things are "wants" and definitely can be adjusted according to different individuals.

Wow, they have such big allowances! Mine is $20 but that is pocket money that I have to work for, if I don’t work for it then I don’t get any money. They really spend a lot of money, I am shocked. For lunch I usually have a packed lunch which my parents will pay for (I pay if I buy food at school). Then I don’t pay for any transportation because I will walk home from school and my parents drive me places I need to go. On weekends maybe I will go to the mall and I will spend like $8 of my money on bubble tea and then I will save up the rest of my money and use it like once a month to buy clothes or to go out and do things with friends. I’m jealous that they have so much money that they can spend on fun things as a teenager.

The pocket money numbers surprised me because they're quite close to what I used to get in sec school ($40... if you adjust for inflation it'll be similar to what they were given in this video) 😅 Yet I used to think I was so "poor", because most of my classmates got 3 digit (some even $200+) figures each week. (It was an elite girls' school starting with "R" so go figure 😅)

I get $80 (around $90 after inflation) a week back in JC, but the downside is I pay for everything myself. Things like hanging out with friends over the weekends, transport, lecture notes, shopping and obviously food for breakfast and lunch. It made me learn how to save my money/ spend on things I only need as I have to pay for everything myself and not rely on my parents.

Lol mine was $50 a week too. Same as Jeslyn. I saved the remainder of my money or eat at McDonald’s with my friends after school

my allowance is $20 a week in sec sch now, but i save about $18-$19 a week (if my dad remebers to pay me back money for groceries.... if not i only save like $5 😿). but i also have a part time job so i dont need to worry about savings :)

last time only go sch eat for lunch then go home. if want to go out ownself use savings for the month. Now go out one meal at the mall or nearby shops already can cost up to $10... and people say its affordable... how to survive

eat at hawker centre/food court or pack from home. its not that hard... my family only eats outside 3 times a month (pre covid times). and as a sec sch student, i eat outside twice a year with my friends. even when i go out with friends, i would bring food from home because im trying to be vegan

@@gawd_jihyo yup, hawker is the way, good food and real affordable. Condition is the work area consist of it.. some places nearby only have malls around. Taking a look back into my secondary times which is 10 years back, cost of living is much much more affordable. Hence, im making my comprison.
