This is what Jinjer has said about Judgement and Punishment: As for “Judgement (& Punishment)”, Jinjer add, “How many times have we reacted harshly to something just because we simply do not understand it? It seems like there is an innate human trait in all of us, when there is something unknown or unfamiliar that we tend to question the substance, to attack and finally to destroy it … just like primitive apes. But when it strikes back it might be too much to bare. Every action causes a reaction. ‘Judgement (& Punishment)’ is a reaction. Just keep that in mind.” “This song is kind of about itself, because it has reggae in it and sometimes metalheads just stick to old-school stuff and they cannot stand anything that crosses this line. So in the song I urge people to open their minds to anything new and extraordinary, or something that you see for the first time or hear for the first time. Try not to judge, but try to understand. There is a lot of hatred in this world just because people don’t understand each other.” - Tatiana Shmayluk

There is a reason that Jinjer is one of my favorite bands. They do come from a harsh, unforgiving place and culture. It's hard to be yourself, let alone to know and understand others fully. Her poetry is pure, the messages always make you think, and, on top of ll that, her abilities are off the deep and and the chart. I am always amazed. Always.

The guys write the music and then hand it off to Tati who writes not only the lyrics (sometimes with the help Eugene, the bassist) but the melody! I find this amazing (among other things she does) because she has little musical knowledge and can barely play a guitar to help her compose. She's really a shy, reluctant musician that you'd never suspect would rather be alone in her room than in front of people. She hates interviews, too. But she knows her success is undeniable and is taking her into the stratosphere. So I'll bet, inside, she really digs performing, the adulation and, finally after so much hard work over more than 10 years, the recognition.

Another vocalist in her style, although with her own twist, is Courtney LePlante from Spiritbox. You might like that one. She's got a really unique delivery in her singing style. Rule of Nines is a perfect encompassing song to get all of her style. Also, the song Judgement (& Punishment) is about her throwing shade at the meathead, masculine, stereotypical bro metalhead that just can't take the fact she can put a lot of their rock/metal idols to shame. It's attacking the trolls that have a lot of insecurities about their "all boys club" being infiltrated. Hence the lyric "I know your pissed off narrow minds cannot believe what they hear".

Fun reactions. Great way to start my day. :) As to jazzy stuff, check out Beggars Dance which is a short outro track for their King Of Everything album but it is incredibly fun and puts a smile on my face every time I hear it (there's a bootleg from when they were working as an opening act and used to play the song from a recording while they cleared the stage and you can see the next band in the wings dancing to it cuz it is just so much fun). A couple of other metal songs with really jazzy parts are a song from their the first record Tati did all the vocals for called Exposed As A Liar which has a live video on the "Crowd Factory" (Play on Cloud Factory which was their next album) DVD trailer. And also Home Back which is from their most recent album, and is based on thier home town having been caught in the war in eastern Ukraine - they had to leave to continue their careers because the battle lines would have stopped them touring. A softer, maybe more blues song is Bad Water about pollution, which is their only full length song that has no growls. #withwith. Cheers!

# This was the first time I visited your channel. Sounds like you have a wonderful voice. I love when singers listen to Perennial. Other reactors pause or talk over that long phrase. She actually sings 4 seconds, then a quick breath. Then 11 seconds up and down the scale finishing with a fully breath supported vibrato. Then a quick breath and right into her growls. When you sing you can appreciate the breathing control that takes. I am going to continue listening to your reviews. You will find that Jinjer fans are really great and supportive. My favorite thing about this reaction is that the reactor can and does sing along with all off Tatiana's clean riffs, appreciating the flavor of each one. Tasting it with her own mouth. I #lovethat. As a singer, it's hard not to fall in love with Tati. She puts so much expression into her delivery. So many different tools and techniques and feelings. And that's before she even starts screaming. That's what's shocking. Her clean voice is SO GOOD. It's got Whitney Houston level of detail and expressiveness and commitment. Then she roars, and it's on another level than what anyone else does. There's just as much variation in her harsh vocals as in her cleans. What really sets Jinjer apart is the variety, the dynamics, the contrast. It's darkness and light, soft and heavy, fast and slow, straight ahead bashing and complicated riffing. It's never all one thing. It's the full palette of colors. They're like Picasso with the brush.

I do know the band members were displaced from the Ukraine because of social unrest and war. It was a difficult time for them because they had no where go or no where to stay. The following quotes are from an interview with Tati in 2018. Q: What is the music scene like in your country? Is metal a part of it? Metal is not OK here in Ukraine, because it’s not very valuable, not very appreciated. Metal music, in fact, is not very popular here. We didn’t think about proving to the whole word that Ukraine is a great country music-wise or whatever. We’re not that patriotic. We’re not patriotic at all. So we just worked for ourselves, and I don’t think that being Ukrainians is what helped us achieve what we achieved. It doesn’t depend on your nationality-actually, yeah, it depends, because for Ukrainians, it’s not that easy to spread their music, ... because for Ukrainians, it’s not that easy to spread their music, ... So we did a bit more work for crossing the border in general, as a metaphor. Q: I’m curious about how you go about writing lyrics. Tati: I actually work in different ways. Sometimes I write in English right from the start if I feel inspired or if it comes easy for me. But sometimes I have to write my thoughts and sentences and phrases in Russian, in my native language, and then I translate and transform them somehow. Sometimes I just write down everything that’s in my mind. This is called stream of conscious, if I’m not mistaken, like in poetry. So whatever is in your head. That’s how I wrote “No Hoard of Value.” (laughs) That was a complete mess-absolutely zero logic-then I tried to shape it into something I like. Q: Was the song “Teacher, Teacher!” from “Micro” inspired by specific experiences in your life? Tati: I like when people find their own meaning in our songs. For someone, that can be their schooling. For someone, that can be religious oppression of someone. For me, that was people who are prejudiced and they try to teach you from the top of their experience, and they don’t consider that we have different lives. “Teacher, Teacher!” is just a symbol, just a metaphor. It’s not about a teacher actually (laughs). It’s about people who try to teach you their own lessons, and they didn’t actually realize that you have your own path to walk. Q: Is there any kind of story or special meaning behind that tattoo? (on her throat) Tati: Well. not really. I don’t have any special meanings to all of my tattoos. Some of them-or maybe most of them-I did impulsively. I just adore Mexico and Mexican culture and mythology, so I made it as a Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, on my throat. So nothing special, just I really wanted it. I was very mesmerized by the idea of this serpent and of this mythological creature, so that’s it. Q: Is there anything else you’d like to say? Tati: Thank you very much for all the American fans and all the listeners who are not fans-not yet (laughs). Hopefully they will be. I hope to see you guys this fall somewhere around the U.S. Yeah, hope to see you there, and we’ll have fun for sure. Come see us and say hi.

The song is not just about seasons, but actually has a double meaning in relation to her seasonal depression. And it was a two breather at about 5 seconds, followed by a 12 second sustain. Another little fun detail: in the official video and lyrics she sings "no we're not dead, no we're not dead", but during live shows like this she sings "no we're not dead, no you're not dead" - directly addressing the crowd and with that people who might also suffer from seasonal depression. And yes, Tati is very expressive and emphasizes the lyrics or the instrumentals with her body, giving her a fantastic stage presence. And Tati is the one who writes most of their songs. Judgement & Punishment itself isn't new but from last year, there's a pretty lighthearted official video as well as an excellent live performance from Melbourne on KZfaq.

@@MrsPenPal Thanks for the reply! Yeah, Jinjer is really popular and has a loyal following. Welcome to the Jinjer army! It's amazing how much attention this band gets. Tara Simon Studios reacted to Pisces a year ago and recently had 1.7 million on the reaction! 🙃👍 ...pretty amazing. I like Jinjer a lot and I watch a lot of the reactions to Pisces especially. I also like a lot of the other female screamers in other bands.

I can tell you're a real musician because you said 'beat' instead of 'rhythm'... thank you! :D haha. great reaction and comments

You asked for favorite lines and I’m stuck between “how spectacular she is when she kills herself” and the from the ashes bit

@@MrsPenPal It has to be Teacher Teacher, but I'm still exploring them. There is a lot of substance there.

She said at an interview Ella Fitzgerald is her favorite singer, you really can hear the jazz vibe :)

You might want to check out Beggers Dance, it is just a short piece at the end of an album but had her do a pretty loungey singing part

Jinjer's most Jazzy song - "Beggars Dance". But also Who Is Gonna Be The One (preferably live version from Napalm Records) is worth checking out, the ending is Jazzy there, but also the heavy part is quite interesting as it offers a wide variety of Tati's growl range

A good pure jazz song from jinjer is Baggers dance... Really good song in my opinion. She can really do jazz style without problem.
