They're really not, there are many trained talented singers out there and his technique was lacking

Sure, simon was rough. But he was right. I think when this young man listens to this performance, he will know every place where he was weak, and chances are good that he will respect Simon more for his critique because it was honest. It gives simon's "yes" a little more authority. It really was a beautiful, emotive performance. Simon's critique will help this singer to further work on his craft, and, no matter how good a performer is, there will always be something they can do to improve their craft. The best artists never stop learning.
