The countertenor is learning. But he is slightly flat all the way through. I think as a teacher, it's always great to point out the intonation problems. Once singing flat has become a habit, his ears will get desensitized, which will really become a problem!

I can sing up to a G5 and down to an E1 comfortably. I’d like to expand my range some day but would like a teacher at somepoint. I took chorus through middle and highschool as well as some from elementary. I was always a soprano until I was forced into tenor in highschool because I’m male. I could still sing with the sopranos if I wanted to though which sucked cuz I always found soprano to be the most fun. Over the years my range has shrank some and I feel like it’s from the loss of contant classical training/practice, so I don’t use all of the same muscle memory techniques that I used to use so well.

@@timothyj9403 Start doing vocal exercises everyday at the piano, or a keyboard. Within six months time, you will notice remarkable improvement. After that work on maintaining your vocal range. Take your time and do not rush. I am a bass baritone that exercises from An 1 to C5 in full voice, not including falsetto, which I exercise separately, which overlaps. I exercise falsetto from G2 to Eb5. It's never too late. In high school I only sang to A4 natural in full voice. With vocal training techniques retained from past teachers, I have increased my range on my own. It's never over. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

THAT MY FRIEND ....is the trick. I am not sure how they do it ....but it SOUNDS like they are doing the opposite of what sopranos TRY to do we try to bring the warmth of the lower notes to the upper registers ...he and all good countertenors sound to me like they are bringing the tone DOWN from the high notes to the lower ones. They are bringing that resonance down to your g...its kind of the opposite of what i do as a soprano but we sound alike to listener :P So the tone character and feel of those high notes you have try bringing them down. And remember ....DONT USE FALSETTO ....falsetto is not upper register or head voice. Its resonance. But to be honest this is probably something ONLY another countertenor could teach you.I couldn't teach a guy to produce a countertenor voice ..i am just telling you based on what i can actually HEAR is happening that is he is bringing the resonance from his upper notes DOWN to his lower notes if i did that i would sound like a chipmunk on the upper notes like when i was a beginner i had to work to first BUILD the lower notes then bring warmth from the bottom notes up te the top so i didn't sound squeaky . Its about balance in the voice. I think only a countertenor could show ou have to produce that sound.. Once you HAVE your voice a soprano could teach you the techniques to sing the roles etc. But you need your voice first under your control ....he can just correct himself right there once he gets what she means a beginner won't have that vocal control. So basically it sounds like he is using some head resonance on his lower notes ...

I have a little fun with this range singing to Smokey Robinson after I work out the Steve Perry and Brad Delp highs. I don't like to make a living above the belt line I want my diaphragm to effortlessly bring it upwards through the chest so I don't have to bother with rock style vocals from chest to throat. As a male, I somehow inherited my mom's high vocal range but not her whistle register. Julius must be another awesome Filipino vocalist.

Aedan Alvena The thing is that he's singing with a "softer" countertenor voice than the normal type of the countertenor voice sound like, as the ones CT (countertenors) from UK. They haven't the mild or soft voice as in other parts of the world were the CT voice isn't that common. He is really good I agree.

I actually prefer more complex and rich timber sounding countertenors, no matter if closer to contralto or soprano. This singer timber is extremely soft, which i personally don't find preferable in a countertenor voice. He reminds me of the softer timber countertenors like Phlippe Jaroussky have which i personally don't like. You seem more about the tessitura closest to the higher female voices with a clean colour so i recommend you Michael Maniaci., I'm more in the team of the unique Alfred Deller, Franco Fagioli, Carlos Mena or Andreas Scholl.

It doesn't have to do with sexual orientation Madi :) Just to clarify ;) It has to do with your body (anatomically speaking) and with what is natural to your voice and how your vocal cords work/vibrate and produce sound makes the difference into being a Falsetto signer or a countertenor.
@martinhellberg9292

Tonio Greco The most common country with countertenors is UK. That's because some of the UK choirs just have a choir with falsetto voices and they kick you out from the choir if you can't sing CT. That is also why so many CT sounds shit because they are forced to sing with their falsetto. I sing CT in a choir with just one more person... so it's not common

If you are a tenor, if you begin to study how to sing using falsetto voice you will become a sopranist (a kind of countertenor that sings in soprano range). You can see in the video that the spoken voice of the singer is like a baritone voice. He sings using falsetto in contralto (or mezzosoprano) range.
@Billy24Wiccan06
@Billy24Wiccan06 5 жыл бұрын
KynigosTheWolf that’s true but tenors can still be a countertenor potential. As they use a lot of falsetto you can ever use falsetto as a starting point or tenors can use their low notes to build it up. Similar to baritones. I’m sorry but basses can’t be a CT. it’s like a contralto trying to do a soprano belt it’s not possible. Alto has a point where they can no longer belt can’t remover which note, basses edge of their range is traditionally mid/middle-high off of the baritone. Remember that CT & Bass are at opposite ends of the male vocal range. Like with female Contralto-Soprano

I feel like countertenors are the same thing as soprano just given a different name because they are male. Anyone disagree? And why
@AuntAgatha0fullmoon
@AuntAgatha0fullmoon 5 жыл бұрын
They are a different type for many reasons, that are side effects of their vocal chords having been exposed to testosterone. It gives a different quality to their voice. First of all, not all countertenors have a soprano range (the ones that do are sometimes called sopranists). They can also have contralto or mezzo soprano ranges. But the quality of their head voice, the placement of their registers, the way they project over the orchestra, all of these tend to be differences between female singers and countertenors. Therefore historically, countertenors have their own repertoire in opera (mainly Handel, Gluck, Mozart, and 20th century stuff), however those roles also tend to be sung by mezzo-sopranos and contraltos (if you can even find them lol) doing "pants" roles. In choral works and oratorios, contertenors tend to sing alto rep. That's just a basic set of differences. I can't really elaborate on the technical differences in anatomy and vocal training, cause I'm just learning this stuff, but I hope that helps somewhat.
@frogmouth
@frogmouth 4 жыл бұрын
No many countertenors match mezzos and others contraltos in their best pitch range . Derek Lee Ragin is very soprano. SCHOLL no. But the voices are not interchangeable because pitch isnt the defining quality of a voice. Just listen to the one piece sung by different voices. The colours are different. Ombrai ma fu Stutzmann, Jarrousski, Janet Baker, Scholl etc

Your question is actually answered within this video, the coach is Soprano and the first student is countertenor.. they sing the same pitch but the color of the voices are very different.. in my opinion the soprano sound bolder/ firm while the countertenor more delicate (resonance). Perhaps that is the reason why countertenor songs are more dreamy, prayer, angelic choir like.
@DubiousDubs
@DubiousDubs Жыл бұрын
It's because historically, women were not allowed to sing in church. Therefore, they would manufacture castrati (male singers who were castrated to preserve their youthful highs). That particular type of singer became popular in opera as well, meaning a bunch of roles were written for them. The practice was, of course, eventually banned for obvious reasons. This means that we needed a way to sing the male soprano roles without actually having true male sopranos. Therefore, singers started developing their head voice and mix in order to sing in that range naturally, resulting in the countertenors we know today.

Simply put, the way they have to produce the sound is different. This singer is, as the teacher said in a comment, naturally a baritone. But he has trained his head voice and mixed voice so that he can sing much higher than that. Naturally, in his chest voice though? It's much deeper than a soprano, or even most Altos. This can be heard when he speaks
