Tips to Prevent Single Strand Knots: 1.) Trim your ends (Health ova length. Allows the full strand to be healthy) 2.) Deep condition (keeps the hair hydrated and lubricated to prevent dryness, try to find silicone free DC’s) 3.) Stretching your hair (this prevents the coils from wrapping around themselves) 4.) Keeping your hair on satin fabrics (Satin scarf and satin pillowcase) 5.) Detangling correctly (no fine tooth combs, not detangling on dry hair, maybe try detangling aka pre-pooing before shampooing) 6.) Visiting a professional (once a month or once a year) 7.) Consistent wash days (an unpopular opinion, do what works for you boo)

Yes, girlfriend, I'm with you! I wash and DEEP condition my hair every three to four days religiously and my hair is so thankful for it. My scalp can't breathe if I don't. My hair is healthy and growing. I tried a couple of times to stretch my wash day to seven days and my hair was a dry, itchy, flaking, tangled mess. No thank you. Every three to four days will do!

Yes Raynaaa!!! 💯 agree!!! Oof, does it ever get annoying to find a teeny clothing fiber in the middle of that knot! Three tips I can add: 1) As you know but it's worth emphasizing, healthy elasticity & shrinkage can also cause ssk's, not just dryness; 2) Olaplex 3 really helped me reduce ssk's by around 85%; 3) Searching them out occasionally helps catch them 'in progress,' when there's still a hole in the center of the knot. Insert a sewing needle in the hole & then gently pull the strand open. It's obv easier to do with longer hair, but very satisfying not to have to cut the ssk out, especially if it's not near the ends! (It's also a good vision test! 😂👓👀) xo 😘

yo washing my hair more than once a week, was a complete game changer. My hair stays moisturized and it actually saves me time I was able to wash and detangle my hair in under 30 minutes. Whereas when I was washing once a week it would take me like and hour sometimes an hour and half to wash and detangle! Give it a try I also found it interesting how so many influencers actually do wash their hair twice a week but tell us to wash our hair once a week. Good job Ranya we can always count on you to keep it real!

I think you’re right!! I get so discouraged by how difficult my wash and go is for tangling (I only do wash and go) so I have not been doing it as often as I know I should. I need to go the other way, and so my wash and gos twice a week. I also used to trim my hair of dead ends at least once a month. My hair was gorgeous. Then Covid happened and laziness took over. Thank you for this reminder that less is definitely not more!

I definitely incorporated some of these. What really helped me was: going to a professional regularly and getting trims, detangling my hair throughly every wash day, wash my hair every 3-4 days, not putting my hair in super tight ponytails, committing to doing my hair (I use to wash & dread styling & never do it), using the olaplaex system, & not using a bunch of different products. I use a mousse & gel & dassit

Yes!!! I was twisting my hair tonight and I just 😑I normally wash AND deep condition my hair every few days, but I moved to this California desert from a humid climate and my hair is NOT having it. And we have hard water (everyone needs to check that! Shower filter saved my LIFE) So I am using Olaplex 2-3x a week and doing cowash in the middle of the week, YES! Olaplex is an entire blessing 🙏🏽 I also trim every 6 weeks because I color And my hair grows like crazy

When you say you don't suffer from dryness 🤯🙌 the old heads in my family doesn't believe in washing hair frequently AT ALL. When I first went natural 10 years ago, my hair was in the BEST state to date. I shampooed every 2 or 3 days and I conditioned EVERY day with a rinse out. Yes, I was basically wetting my hair EVERY day in the shower. Presently trying to recreate that without wetting it every day. Any tips???

Thanks for the tips. I have been stretching my hair by primarily doing twist outs and honestly when just at home keeping it twisted up. I have noticed a decrease in SS knots. I like the tip on washing more frequently. I have noticed it is much easier to detangle when I was 2x/week vs. 1/week. So this sounds like it would be another benefit of washing more often. I just need to do it consistently. ;)

I don't get many single strand knots, if I am understanding that correctly, but when I'm trying to remove shed hair sometimes it will catch another Strand and cause a knot sometimes several Chad strand will tie themselves around one single strand. Oil will sometimes loosen that up but sometimes I just have to cut it.

I'm trying to find a sweet spot for washing. Every 4 days seemed to work for my hair, but my scalp said STOP. Lol. Now I'm trying ACV rinses once a week which seems to be combating the inflammation and itchiness of my scalp. I'll start adding in a more gentle cleanser in between washes and not concentrate on my scalp on those days.

@happycurlhappygirl
@happycurlhappygirl 2 жыл бұрын
i understand! but if it makes you feel better bands shouldn’t do it as long as it’s satin to prevent breakage of course. and using warm heat like a blow dryer isn’t creating heat damage. it’s not direct heat. now…it CAN of course if you’re leaving it on the hair and for way too long of course. but if you’re a little fearful, banding is really great and safe!

I have noticed not all curl specialist are the same.. I had to research a handful in my area to find just 1 that was really worth something.. The 1 I liked most ended up being the one from the BGC directory in my area.. I've noticed there's alot of stylists throwing curl specialist on they name.. Who actually more so still deal with press and curls.. 😂 I totally understand the trauma associated with a bad stylist experience.. But when you find a stylist worth while, it's amazing..
