I would think if you are going on long boat trips or away from land 2 engines would be the way to go!

Yamaha’s typically go about ten years needing only oil and lube changes with normal use and care. A single 300 is slower to get on plane with a full load of passengers but has a slightly higher top end where as twins have two props pushing more water but have two lower units drag. This has been my experience after owning plenty of boats. So... twins are better pushing a big load.

I think this video is something very very important for many many guys... I'm buying now a new boat... and one of my questions are... one of 100hp or two of 50hp.... really appreciate to have more information about consumption.. maintenance costs.... durability... etc....... Thanks for the video! Congrats

Performance is rather close except for gas consumption. The ultimate question you need to ask yourself as a consumer is, “Do you want or Do you NEED redundancy?” It’s always nice to have it but it will also cost you more gasoline.

reliability isnt a problem, initial cost and maintenance of two vs one

Two 150's will always weigh more than a single 300. Give the twin exactly the same horsepower to weight ratio, then the twin would have more overall HP. It would still be an interesting experiment.

Fuel consumption at all RPMs would be great to know. Also video of the wash/trolling lanes at 7kts between the two packages...they are fishing boats after all.

This is a Yamaha dealer test. Not an actual Yamaha corporation test.

Yami’s are so dependable and there are plenty of category FIVE (best) service centers, so single or twin is only a personal choice.

This is an incredibly subjective test. There was no information given about prop, trim, fuel, driver ability center of gravity. This video really doesn't prove much.
