Ya especially since it landed in a part of the ocean where fish cant't survive and now that they sunk it aquatic life now has a new place to live.

The repeated displays of ignorance in this comment section are virtuosic, so many of them patting themselves on their backs for their cleverness as they show off their utter cluelessness as to the basic facts of how and why a ship can form a valuable coral reef.

@Mitodreamer Because these reefs are also spots for recreational divers. Therefore, they need to minimize the amount of sharp metal and the like, otherwise divers could accidentally sever their air hoses. This is part of the reason why Waartime wrecks are so dangerous. Plus, you can't control how a ship sinks when you just torpedo it, and ensureing that a ship sinks upright helps slow down the decaying process since ships are designed to be upright to begin with.

@@Xaxluux No, I was asking why he would question that they're doing what they should be. I don't understand why to doubt nature taking its course. Why wouldn't they? If anything, it would be extremely rare (unheard of?) for it to not be doing so. That's like thinking that if you go away on vacation you may need to check that the weeds are still growing. In other words, again, it would be more difficult to STOP them from doing what they should be doing. I was just curious if there was a reason he doubted it at all

@cutiepie52400 Because it was an old ship, outdated and no longer useful. Now it's an artificial reefing to attract fish, stimulating the fishing and diving industries.

love seeing these old things being ised for dive sites, scary how fast that thing went down. Can you imagine if it was sinking accidentally and people had to get from the bottom of the ship and get out in that kind of time

There is no life because Of the sandy surface. The ship’s hard surface allows coral to settle in it, which attracts larger fish, creating an ecosystem. Pretty cool way of creating reefs in my opinion

@colintraveller expletives expletives, can't we agree to disagree like adults. And I said "probably filled with toxins" not definitely, you never know how tiny the amount of an overlooked toxic substance may affect undersea life, even if the ship were cleaned very carefully. Just because you disagree with my opinion doesn't mean we can't have a civilized discussion on the matter. Tell me the process they go through to clean these reef ships.

I think the fish would have been fine without humans building them "artificial" reefs. Whats a better excuse to dump things into the sea than to claim it is to help the fish?? The fish evolved way before anything else, I'm sure they don't need a rusty old ship (that's probably filled with toxins) serving as their new home.
