If you've had any thoughts about buying a 125 (and in particular the Sinnis Terrain 125) then I hope this video will help you to decide whether such a bike is for you. This is the third Sinnis I have owned and even though I own much larger capacity machines, the little Terrain always puts a smile on my face. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush then look elsewhere but if it's FUN you're after, these machines have it by the bucket load!

Thanks Alex. Just had a quick look at the Zontes and it is a VERY impressive spec. Same weight as the Sinnis but 14.5 bhp compared to 12.7 for the Sinnis so it should be a bit livelier. I like the spoke wheels that can be run tubeless and the tyres look aggressive enough for some quite serious off-roading. It's a naked bike so won't give you the weather protection of the Sinnis and it doesn't have the luggage, obviously but that could be sorted by some cheap soft luggage perhaps. I have now covered 1,750 miles on my Terrain and it is running really well and I did another two day trip into Wales about a week ago. The comfort factor of the Sinnis is a real strength and for Adventure riding I'd say the Sinnis is the better bet but it depends on what use you intend to put the bike to. Have a look at my video "Two Days In Wales on a Sinnis Terrain" to see what I mean. Hope this helps and thanks again for your comments. Phil.

I also did some supply teaching after that at various schools including St Edward's Middle School. If I did teach you - don't worry - keep taking the pain killers and you'll be fine! As for the Sinnis - even though I don't have mine anymore, I would highly recommend them and have been thoroughly impressed with those that I have owned up to now (Scrambler 125, the air-cooled Terrain and the water-cooled Terrain). Cracking bikes and great value. I think the Terrain is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. Let me know how you get on if you do buy one. Cheers, Phil.

Yes, good point. HOWEVER - when Sinnis brought out the water cooled 125 Terrain, they increased the service intervals from 1200 to 1800 miles - a 50% increase which makes things much more manageable. If you're only using the bike for pleasure, even 1200 miles isn't TOO bad as a 125 takes longer to clock the miles up on (!). If you're using the bike for commuting then, yes, much more of a consideration. Thanks for your comment.

I've had a Terrain 125 (Zongshen RX1). Bought it to use for commuting to work (and playing on weekends). Absolutely superb machine! Very well made and definitely designed to be a true adventure bike. Handles very well on mud/ice/snow. Very robust motorcycle that can withstand being dropped. Also extremely reliable - never let me down in even in the harshest winter weather. Loads of practical features. Would be an excellent "learner" bike or urban commuter. That's one of the best owner reviews I've seen on this bike. I'm not in the market for one but my son could be interested. The value for money is extremely high and I would be interested to see how it holds up after a couple of years of use. My experience with my Lexmoto scooter has been positive but I do regularly clean and service it more than I ever did with any Japanese bike I've owned.
@phillangford4059
@phillangford4059 2 жыл бұрын
I think you have raised a good point here. Any bike benefits from being regularly washed and looked after generally but Chinese bikes more so. The dealership that I bought both my Terrains from (who also sell Lexmoto) told me that they have loads more problems with Lexmoto than the Sinnis machines. Therefore, if you've been pleased with the Lexmoto then you should be even more impressed with the Sinnis. There is a great video by The Missenden Flyer where he has the use of a Sinnis Scrambler over seven months (!) over a typical Britsh winter. The bike looks as good as new because he treated it as his own. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mK-jp5Ckx7HLj3U.html Well worth a look. @@phillangford4059 I have seen the review of the scrambler which proved that ACF50 and regular cleaning pays dividends but also he tested the Sinnis T380 and wasn't impressed with the way the finish has lasted. Lexmoto do seem to occupy the cheaper end of the market and lies some of their issues in that their bikes are strictly built down to a low price and their target audience don't lavish some care on them themselves. Taking one to a dealer at the low recommended mileages the cost can soon add up so over 3 years or so they have spent as much (or more) on services than they paid for the bike so services tend to get skipped.
@phillangford4059
@phillangford4059 2 жыл бұрын
@@AliasMrHackenbacker Point taken about the 380. Sinnis were silly to give TMF the bike in such a poor state. I saw a review of the same actual bike (check the reg) by Mr. Darcey and the Old Man after TMF had done his, and the bike looked totally different because Sinnis had put a Toro stainless steel exhaust on it and, I suspect, a new tank (or at least had the old one repaired). As a result the bike looked and sounded as good as gold. All bikes like TLC - some more than others!

Very nice indeed. But I would like to know why the service intervals are so different on the various types of 125cc motorcycles. Are the 125 liquid cooled engines that different? I mean my Zontes G1 125 (per manual) first service is at 1.000 kilometers, then every 3.000-5.000 kilometers ( depending on the shop that sold it to you). Mine holds a 3-year warranty, but services are to be done every 3.000 kilometers. Which I prefer instead of waiting till the 5.000 mark. After buying the Zontes G1 125 Scrambler for 3.500 euros, I came across the bike you are reviewing I thought, gosh maybe this 125 ADV bike would have been a better buy? I have heard some good things about the performance it has to offer, seems to be s great little bike. But I went the G1 route... I purchased the Sr38 shad panniers for my bike which were about 300 euros extra, it looks rather nice but most importantly it seems be built like a tank, it rides beautifully and with all the extras it comes with... Believe it or not I come from riding very large motorcycles but this time around I wanted something less powerful, great gas mileage, and dependable for traveling. The 20 liter tank the G1 has is just perfect for long rides. My last fill was after riding 827 kilometers on one tank!! Your choice in getting the 125 ADV Sinn is a fabulous one! For the money you simply can't go wrong! Many adventures up ahead right? Hope you enjoy it!! Safe riding 👍

Hi Lefty. Wow, an impressive response to the video. Thank you. Yes, like you I have come from a large capacity bike background and still have a 1200gs adventure, but I have been enlightened to the joys of riding a small capacity machine such as the Sinnis and the Zontes. After seeing TMF's review of the Sinnis Scrambler long term test, I decided to give one a go and managed to pick a brand new one up for £1795! I loved it, but it was physically a bit small - even for me! I traded the Scrambler in for an air cooled Terrain and was blown away by how good it was and when the water-cooled version came out I couldn't resist upgrading. Your Zontes G1 looks very impressive too. Having just watched the promotional video, I was amazed at what you get! Yours develops more power than the Sinnis and the G1 probably weighs a bit less too. Having the luggage on the Terrain means that a quick trip for half a day or so requires little preparation. You can sling a few bits and bobs in the top box and away you go. I have done a few two-day trips on the bike and the luggage, whilst not huge, copes just fine for one night away. I never bothered with a tank bag. For the little back roads of Wales the bike is just perfect and loads of fun. I have a video of said trip (Two Days In Wales on a Sinnis Terrain) which is worth a look if you're interested. Gentle off roading is fine too with the bike being small and lightweight, it's never intimidating .kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pL51aqSGutGUeGQ.html Hope you too have some great adventures on the G1 and loads of fun. Cheers, Phil.

@phillangford4059 Жыл бұрын
Hi Richard. Thanks for your interest. No I don't have the bike anymore but that's no bad reflection on the bike simply the fact that I change my bike to lot! As you know from the review, I had the air called version before the water-cooled version and I thought both of them were great! I would have no hesitation in going back to the Terrain 125 should the need arise. I replaced the Terrain with a Royal Enfield Classic 350 but to be honest the Terrain was much more comfortable and practical so the possibility of going back is not out of the question. Those people that suggest staying away from such bikes rarely have tried them themselves. I would strongly recommend treating the bike with ACF 50 and make sure the bike is regularly cleaned. But then I would suggest the same for any Japanese by too! As regards their robustness - a couple from riding from reality took to sinister rains on the Mongol Rally and did 10,000 miles to get there without any problems whatsoever! I think that speaks volumes about their robustness. Cheers.

Hi Yestin. Firstly, good to hear that you liked the video - it's certainly honest and unbiased as I have no affiliation or connections generally with Sinnis. Would I recommend it for a 6ft 1in rider? I would reply "yes" because Teapotone who is a similar height to you and 20 stone in weight claimed that the bike was great for him. It was his review that persuaded me to give the original, air-cooled version a try and I was so impressed with it that when the water-cooled model came out I decided to upgrade. I would go so far as to say that the Terrain will probably fit as well as any 125 and probably better than most as it is NOT a tiny bike. Just remember you've only got 12.7 BHP to play with! @@phillangford4059 As I live in an area with very steep hills, will this put up with the demands of daily travel? Im only 14 stone so will it be sluggish going up?
@phillangford4059
@phillangford4059 2 жыл бұрын
@@yestynmullan1553 Yes it will cope but it will struggle as much as any 125 would. I'm 11 stone and on any very steep hills the bike has to work hard. I would say test ride any 125 you can get your hands on and see how it copes. The Sinnis will not be much different either way although at 162kg, it is heavier than most 125's.

Do you have an A (125 only) licence? I can't make mind up as there are too many options. :)

No, I have a full licence - I have been riding for forty years(!) and I ride a BMW 1200 GS Adventure.....but I really like riding the little Sinnis on the smaller A, B and C roads around here and Wales. There ARE many options but only this Sinnis Terrain is what I would describe as a genuine Adventure Bike. I road mine for 4 and 3/4 hours this afternoon coming back from Wales, stopping only for fuel! I covered 174 miles on 8 litres of petrol. I love mine. Can you tell?!!!😃

Hi, have you had a pillion on the back? How was it?
@phillangford4059
@phillangford4059 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kieran - thanks for your interest. No, I haven't ridden with a pillion mainly because I have no need to. However, My wife did try simply sitting on the pillion seat and was surprised at how much room there was and how comfortable it seemed to be. I will give it a try sometime and report back but it is asking a lot of a 125. Mine and Sue's weight combined is roughly the same as Teapotone's so I guess it should be able to cope. I am about to upload a video Called "Two Days In Wales On A Sinnis Terrain 125" which shows the bike on a two day tour. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Phil.

I guess it's just a case of cashing in on what seems to have worked for so many other adventure bikes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

Point taken. The Sinnis is not light for a 125 but not terribly overweight either. The power to weight ratio of the newer watercooled model is slightly better than the air cooled version. I've tended to use mine in the little back roads of Wales where the power is fine and A roads are ok too so long as there are no steep hills. As a package, I think it's great.

I can think of one bad fault .. the chain is garbage ..it stretches and rusts soon at you get it .. mine certainly did .. despite it been cleaned and oiled
@phillangford4059
@phillangford4059 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I agree. The original chain needed to be adjusted more frequently than usual. After it had its first service, I bought a JT o-ring chain for £22 off Ebay and fitted it myself. Easy enough to fit, looks good and needs adjusting far less. It looks like new all the time which is helped by using Wurth chain lube which is a dry type and doesn't fling off - so the back wheel stays clean too. Thanks for your comment. Phil.

OK, but don't generalize from just one example. That could happen to any bike - or car. Sinnis are now offering 5 years unlimited mileage warranty on their new bikes. The only manufacturer to do so.

Did my second cbt on it. Absolutely junk. Much slower than my yamaha ybr and has weird brakes. Probably only makes 7 horsepower. Could barely get up to and hold 60. Get a used Japanese bike with low miles. Much better value
