One defended its crown, another took back what it lost, and still another one got its first championship.
Three different stories came out in this year’s Sinulog Grand Parade where the Land of Beauty and Bounty of Lanao del Norte, the Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe of Tangub City and the Tribu Katbalaugan of Catbalogan City emerged as champions for the Free Interpretation (FI), Sinulog-Based (SB) and Street Dancing categories respectively.
The clear and unique storyline of uniting Muslims and Christians represented by the Dimaporo and Quibranza families through the “kanduri” or the grand call for celebration by Maranaos, sealed the win for the Lanao del Norte contingent.
Nestor Jardin, chairman of the board of judges for the FI category, said Lanao’s concept which translated clearly into their overall performance where they showed different folk dances like the Tinikling, gave them the crown for the second straight year.
“Lanao had a very well thought-out production. It was a total production including a unique story line about peacemaking between Christians and Muslims. . . . They were also excellent in terms of performance in precision and energy,” Jardin told reporters shortly after the announcement of winners, which was not done in previous years.
He added that even with their huge props, Lanao made sure that their presentation did not neglect the dancers and their routines, unlike other contingents which “overdo” the choreography of their props.
Lanao, who bested 10 other contingents in their category, will be getting P1 million in today’s awarding ceremony at the Cebu City Sports Center and P100,000 for winning the Best in Musicality for the F1 category.
Jardin also lauded the other winners, but cited Tribu Katbalaugan for its novel concept of using bats as the main theme in their performance.

Breaking News: Province of Lanao del Norte / Province of Lanao del Norte "Festivals" - Sinulog Dancer - Lanao del Norte may skip Sinulog 2018. 😲😲😲 After Tangub City, the Sinulog might lose another favorite contingent next year. Yesterday, the provincial tourism officer of Lanao del Norte disclosed that they are eyeing at skipping the festival next year. "Actually, before mi ni ari diri, win or lose namo nga pag apil diri, this would be our last. Siguro, enough na kay we have already proven our culture. We have already showcased the festivals that we have in our province since we joined this contest. And at the same time, the most important thing, we're already in the map of Sinulog foundation competition in Cebu City," said Minda Regis.

Mukhang mahihirapan ang Buyogan Festival na bumalik sa sinulog kapag ito ang kalaban nila. Fan ako ng buyogan, pero there's something wrong sa buyogan ngayon nawala yong 'wow' factor nila, laging parang may 'kulang' sa performance nila recently. But i know babalik din ang kinang nila.Pero still kudos to this group ang ganda ng performance nila. Yon nga lang you can see may mga konting hawig yong ibang props nila sa Buyogan at Lingganay. Pero the best pa din to. Congrats Lanao!

HELLOO BITTERNESS sa mga nagsasabing kinopya daw ng LANAO this year ang Lingganay sa sinulog 2013,, ito lang ha,, MAY UTAK BA KAYO!! lingganay 2013 more on flowers and concpet nila,,yung props nila doon ng-evolve,, while sa LANAO this year may Muslim culture influence,, the designs, the Gong, and Drum ng MARANAO,, the dance itself ay may halong maranao culture fused with BASIC and COMMON sinulog dance steps.. which made LANAO UNIQUE and SOLID,, plus the concept and storyline is one of kind at hindi BASTA-BASTA makokopya ng iba.. Lingganay focused more on the props,,OBVIOUS yun!! while LANAO, balanced po xa,, never natabunan ng props ang dancers throughout the presentation which was COMMENDED by the head of the judges of Sinulog this year! kung titingnan nyo ang galawan ng props nasa likod at gilid lng talaga xa which is GOOD,, ang bitter ng iba dyan ha,, just because TALO ang bet nyo o kulelat talaga kau sa production! ggooosshhh,, amplaya nga naman!

just so u know!! iba po xa actually,, more on props talaga ang lingganay,, Lanao showcased a DANCE here ok,, and unique nmn talag xa,, the CONCEPT and STORYLINE is SOLID sa lanao.. use of props,, minsan mag.overlap talaga sa mga contingents,, FYI the presentation of Catbalogan last year is more likely pareho sa Lingganay from the ritual to the entrance,, pati ngayon,, same parin.. ang bitter nyo ha, just beacuse hindi nanalo bet nyo,, hahaha,, sorry nlng bes..

there was a short period time when the FI winners were really more about ACTUAL dancing than props (i think when lumad basaknon made this popular). now, we're back to that superficial cycle again about the winners being more about who gets to pay more prop holders, elaborate props, and choreographers who can choreograph the prop holders into crowd pleasing designs. of course, the more props, the more elaborate and festive that group's performance looks, even though the ACTUAL dancing is really average. heck, the dancers don't really even do a lot of dancing--they just run all over the place. the dancing is just now the backdrop to the props.

malaki po talaga ang budget sa tourism dept nmin,, kaya pwede maglabas at gumamit ng ganitong kalaking pera yearly,,very supportive kasi gov namin.. killing two birds with one stone eka nga,. the province is trying to change the mindset of some filipinos particularly in Luzon and Visayas that MINDANAO is not a warzone area entirely,, and in some places like LANAO DEL NORTE where Muslims and Christians live harmoniously.. :)

we are not after the price kasi,, we are promoting our province and offering our praise to Sto Nino.. BONUS na if manalo.. i'm one of the participants from LDN way back in 2009, we were the very first contingent from LDN competing in SINULOG.. hehehe,, ang tagal na.. 10 yrs na,, hehehe and we placed 4th and Best in costume.. hehe.

unfortunately true. there was a very short period of time when the lumad group forced the concept of ACTUAL dancing instead of props. they won, but i guess the festival organizers want everything to look festive/grand/elaborate, at the cost of actual dancing. the winners nowadays are whoever get to have elaborate props, more prop holders, and "choreographers" who are paid to design the props in crowd pleasing fashion. so sad

mynameisbolbol is actually right. this group has always been more about props "choreo" than anything else, not even the actual dancing. the "dancing" here is really more of running. there is very little dance choreography here. the "choreo" is with the props which are too many. there should be a set minimum and maximum number of props allowed on the stage performance so as not to overshadow the actual dancing. otherwise, the organizers should just hold another category of props choreo contest where it's all about the synchronization and design of props to music, no dancers involved
