The one memory I had of old Sion is wondering why no one picked him, trying him out for the 1st time, using 2 Qs in lane then ran out of mana. The rest of that game was a blur.

That point and click stun makes me think wistfully about Taric's old stun.

Ap sion mid is actually kinda fun, you can go imperial mandate demonic embrace and be an absolute nuisance. It's nothing like old AP sion, but it's the best way to make it work in my experience

I used to love playing him as a crit/attack speed jingler. Based on his passives and ult you could pull of some silly 1v5s

His old phantom dancer crit build was so fun to play

As I have said before, old Sion had 2 incompatible playstyles: Burst mage and Drain tank, and that's why he was reworked. They decided to merge these 2 to make a hybrid of actual tank and Juggernaut with massive burst, which is the best you could do. Surprisingly similar to the old one if you ask me. That being said, i recognize the niche of draintanking is gone... Which further proofs why Aatrox rework was awful. Sion lacked cohesion in his kit, while Aatrox did not.

As someone who always picked the black sheep, i freaking loved old sion. The AP burst mage was great bc the stun was crazy long and the shield burst mechanic was never seen before and AD sion was nutty as a duelist character!! Remember the hypest turnaround of when a caitlyn (i even remember the godforsaken champion) was running me down and i turned around, started attacking, lifestealing everything back and slaying tf out of her😭. So satisfying

Somehow, the AD Thresh Top guy made a full length introspective for Sion before Vars. That's just depressing.

As a supp main since the days pantheon had his pizza feets, i would love to see someone with a ultimate like old sion, that would be really usefull and pretty fun to play!

I actually did that once where I built Fiora how she used to be built after her rework. It didn't work out very well :/ though I haven't tried it yet since lethal Temple came out so that might actually help. It'll give her more of an attack speed steroid that she used to have so I can build her more fully ad. I used to build phantom dancer in essence fever on her, so that might actually work out very well with some life still like shield bow and ravenous or even bloodthirster

Used to love playing old AD Sion. Miss it dearly. Can't wait for the Karma rework video. A great champ that embodied ionian balance.

As a Sion main, both old and new one, i gotta say even though the old AP Sion can really entertaining with the cheesy stun shield pop or AD Sion just ignore every single damage your team deal to his team with R. The new Sion with tank build is absolutely meta and metal too. He still has ridiculous damage even when building tank, and lategame he just shrugged off damage like nothing ever happened.

With Olaf's mini rework in the PBE that lets his R last an entire teamfight as long as he is attacking, I think Olaf has gotten closer to filling that role of beefy lifesteal autoattacker

Has someone who played old sion and still plays the new one it's a 50/50 for me. I enjoy new lethality sion but the playstyle has nothing to do with old sion. For me the "power fantasy" of old sion wasn't healing your allies but rather the amount of brute force you got from crit builds. 60 AD + 50% AS + 100% Lifesteal paired with crit made you an absolute power house capable of doing 1v3's. Lethality sion nowadays can do that, but you need to proc your passive for it and it feels incredible bad when you go into passive and get kited away.

I really miss old SIon, I rememeber using it full crit, It was insane. I never made so many pentakills as with SIon.

Old Sion with today’s items would be HORRIFYING. Rocketbelt / Cosmic Drive / Demonic Embrace with a point-and-click stun, what in god’s name

The old AP+R Sion could be a basis for an entirely new support champion, using Renata Glasc's vibe on "sinister support".

New Sion is arguably the most fun tank + he's the only one that can splitpush reliably. No wonders he's so popular rn.

It seems like the closest thing we could get to old AD Sion would either be bruiser Taric or something like Moonstone Warwick, the latter of which may actually be pretty good due to his AP ratios and the amp to his healing, idk tho

Tbf, while not exactly matching old sion ultimate, the broader concept of "healing allies through combat" was added back with Mooonstone Renewer

I loved building crit and lifesteal on old sion, combined with his ult he was trully terrifying. One or two basic attacka and you're dead

I miss old Sion like I miss old Urgot. While they are definitely an "improvement" for the game now, they're completely different champions. Old AP Sion was LeBlanc's permanent counter. Old Urgot permanently countered camo/invisible champions as well. Perhaps I will miss old AD Sion the most, especially in this game which has increased damage across the board.

I used to play old AD sion a lot in 3v3, going for a crit/tank build by building atma for Infinite AD, IE and statik, a ravenous hydra, and a spirit visage for maximum sustain, the thing was unkillable. Really miss that play style (and also 3v3 😢)

I really loved the old Sion. I played it a lot in the beginning. Both, AD and AP Variant were very fun in their own style. I also think both variants gave me a good understanding of AD and AP champions in general. I miss the simplicity of older champions, and I think removing all simplicity makes it harder for beginners to play a champion to a decent level and learn the game. Also it's hard to play against champions with passives that have Passives as a beginner. I Hope that doesn't affect new players will to stay, learn and play the game continuously. Personally I just miss the whacky hybrid possibilities of older champions. Everything feels so linear and railroaded nowadays. That's just my two Cents.

With every rework of old champions I kinda feel like their jankiness has become their appeal and it's basically being torn out of the game. I prefer the new fiddle, but I kinda liked the old one. And now that they make much more complex champions in an attempt to make them unique, while reworking the old champions, the most unique thing they could add is a champion that functions like the old ones. We got Yasuo 2, why not give us Aatrox 2?

I've only gotten 4 Pentakills outside of URF, and 3 of them were with old Sion and a full crit build. Good times.

I miss the old Sion ult, friendly neighbourhood zombie healing his entire team.

I know this was from a year ago, but I distinctly remember reworked Sion's E doing extra damage if the minion he knocks away hits a champion, causing most players who wanted to poke out the enemy champion to Max E first. And then the damage was reduced and i think the CD increased.

I think one key thing people that compare Sions rework to Aatrox's need to keep in mind is that even if we lost drain tank Sion a whole half of his Identity was maintained, you can feel similarities in the abilities. With Aatrox you can not, its really that simple

Old Sion was the my first champion that i love to play, all you need is a Malady ( don't remember the name but it give 50% attack speed abd 15% life steal) and that banner, that give 20% attack speed and 20% life steal in area for Minions and players of your team, and and done you have an unkilliabke monster of back doors. Ps: sry for my bad english.

Worst game i had against old Sion was Kennen into AP Sion mid, who built mobis and ganked the side lanes hard. I couldnt stop him because his massive damage point and click stun and his shield just blew up the minion waves. He was able to run to and back from lanes without missing anything.

This video made me remember the terror I felt when I played against old Sion with 2 Infinity edge, 2 B. T & 2 phantom dancer That monster won't die, every auto attack with ult activated gave him 550-650 hp lifesteal wtf

I have fond memories of looking at old xChinnin/Couillebleu gameplay

I played old Sion kind of hybrid. I'd start leveling my abilities like I was playing AP Sion and my first item was a Nashors Tooth (AS, AP, CDR, Mana regen) but then I'd put points into the attack steroid, and get a phantom dancer; a few AAs made up for my lack of AP so I could still murder people under my gaze and then I'd finish building tanky, Frozen Heart, Force of Nature, Guardian Angel. It was great, I had everything.

I'll say before watching the video, I used to love old Sion. There was something so relaxing about CHOP CHOP CHOPPING down a stunned champion and just fueling your health bar with more CS.

Sion became my main after his rework, I love how he plays.

Used to do AP Sion with AD Pantheon bot lane back in 2012 ish era. Full damage runes on both, Sion gets stun level 1, pantheon gets Q (targeted). Both go ignite, Sion gets exhaust and Panth goes flash. Wait until the enemy walks up to bush, drop stun and Q on them, walk up and auto attack them while first person exhausts and ignites them. Then just follow them auto attacking, match their flash with yours as Panth, ignite again at the end of the first ignite if needed. It was enough damage to kill any adc/support before they got back to tower guaranteed. Could usually get a second Q off as Panth for the execute. Very hilarious.

I LOVED old Sion as this tanky top laner with huge life steal sustain. Though I was saddened by the rework, I can admit that my boy could not live any longer. It was like shooting my shi-tzu with rabies and getting a golden retriever. I don't play new Sion that much or at all.

Old AP Sion was just pure comedy. Casually walking up to someone chunking them with a single Q and the letting W blow up on them.

I think Sions rework is great because while not keeping the same builds it kept the fun aspect wich many of the reworks don't and it made him more competitively viable

Old Sion was my favorite champion of all time. I could have over 100ad at level one, I would do a lifesteal build and got so many pentakills with him I wish they had a mode to play as old champions

I think we have enough autoattack champions to fill. The reason why Draintank Autoattackers aren't really a thing anymore is less so because they fill a niche and more so because balancing them is a nightmare. Maybe if Lifesteal(now days Physical Vampirism) wasn't such a mainstream stat it could work, especially since AD Sion was 100% meant to play a HP Full ADCrit Build back in the day with Atmogs due to his insane 100% Lifesteal Ult. But nowdays? No man, I don't wanna see a champ do 400 dmg but recover 1800 health. That doesn't seem easy to balance around, especially when Riot is very keen in making these champs have gapclosers, slows and such. Olaf is the closest that playstyle gets to live on, since a lot of his design is pretty fair(he has to physically run at you and he is squishier if he goes damage). Maybe Old Aatrox can work if his autoattacks only heal him. He was kinda nuts having 50% Lifesteal with his items but still dealing absurd damage due to his W steroid.

Sion was the first champ I ever picked up back in S5 and I only played him as an AD attack speed drain tank because it was funny watching him turbo chop an entire team time with autos 😅

imagine old sion in today's league my guess is he would somehow have become a jg or support, building moonstone into ad bruiser for the team healing maybe smthg like moonstone titanic hydra sterakk's gauge and steelcaps

the old sion is forever in my hearth im a fan of pre-sion and yes, it would fit perfectly into the current game with all these new champions jumping around, getting to you faster than master yi, stuns, knock-ups etc. sion uses q and depending on the shield or ult, ignite and away with it vermin the only thing sion can counter would be teemo (when sion is playing ad) %hp dmg ,true dmg, as well as enough armor

I still miss those 198 AD points at level 3 with only Doran's blade and active E. Of course the rune page was important but still pretty fun xd

i'd argue udyr is closer to the old sion: slap stun which is also spamable with the right timing, can build ad auto with tiger, can build ap burst people with phoenix, can piss people by running around shield spam and passive healing (albeit minor).

Slight correction: 6:20 Sion's W damage deals a percentage of the *enemy's* max health, and is not based on Sion's own health.

i personally believe that they could bring back the old aatrox under a new name if they ever wanted to, and if i'm being honest, i personally believe we need that old attack speed darkin back, mostly because varus doesn't really build ad or attack speed anymore, preferring an AP playstyle so he can oneshot enemies with a fully charged Q, although the new darkin may build attack speed i highly doubt it because it was said they are gonna be an assassin

Had much love for old ap sion and taric

As a person that has never played pre-rework Sion (Joined in s10), his old kit seems to lack synergy through high ap scalings on q and w and his ult heavily pushing an auto attack style of gameplay similar to Olaf. This split playstyle i think would make it feel like I couldnt achieve his maximum potential, especially if pre-rework Sion were to replace the Sion we have today. This conversation probably isnt for me, but i would like to let my opinion be heard in discussions like this.

I remember picking Sion the first time in 2009 for toplane and I dominated the lane, then the 5v5 clash came and there's nothing I could do to help lol.

The only memory i have of sion, was my dad telling a story and showing me a picture of sion, he said that he was so good with sion, he once was running back to base cuz idk, in between him and 3 of his teammates were the enemies, about half to three third's of hp, they had 2 choices, run torwards the base and face 3 enemies since his ally was respawning, or face my dad, they ran torward the base...

i used to always get the extra AD buff you could almost always win 1v1's at level 1

My problem with Sion and Poppy reworks are how they completely changed the characters class to tank.

Honestly, with the creation of supports like Pyke and Senna, who are meant to be side-carries or outright carries in spite of being supports, it would be interesting if Riot designed a dedicated bruiser support who's focus is on healing allies by autoattacking or otherwise dealing damage to opponents. Perhaps to balance it the healing would be reduced on the champion itself but be amplified for allies. Idk just a spitball.

All I remember is that Sion's rework marked a new dawn for the direction of League. Art and all.

That's it. This SION got reworked. Our old Aatrox no longer exists, we got a more slow riven with omnivamp.

Mundo and Atrox right now are probably the closest champs to what old Sion was. Mundo can roll a team fight against champs that can't get through his crazy health and regen and same for Atrox.

I played for a few years before the rework, only ever saw one Sion in all that time. I went against one top lane in solo Q, and got absolutely obliterated. The dude was 3v1ing us after like 2 kills, partly because nobody knew what that champion actually did.

THANK YOU, I've been saying since the rework that while it's an amazing rework it lost the silly aa based sion playstyle. Old sion with the old runes could have 120 ad lvl 1 and the sheer joy of surprising your lane partner with a 3-4 hit death lvl 1 was too good.
