Siouxsie has always been and will always be one of the great female vocalists to come out of the Punk era. She has a timeless sound and beauty that cannot be replicated by today's current crop of wannabes, no matter how hard they coerce their sound engineers to do so.

This track reminds me of great times, going around with my old mates during the 1980s, we would go to a club which would play our sort of music (Siouxie the Cult etc) then we would finish off the night by going to the ruins of Great Witley court in Worcestershire (or simular) during the early hours...then unfortunately most of us 'grew up' and got married etc.....great memories...Siouxie is superb, I don't see any bands with her quality these days in my opinion!

They almost didn't release this version. It was not until after they recorded it that they found out it was co-written by Bob Dylan and The Band's Rick Danko. The Band's original version appeared on their 1968 debut, Music from Big Pink.

If your memory serves you well We were gonna meet again and wait So I'm goin' to unpack all my things And sit before it gets too late No man alive will come to you With another tale to tell But you know that we shall meet again If your memory serves you well This wheel's on fire Rolling down the road Best notify my next of kin This wheel shall explode If your memory serves you well I was gonna confiscate your lace And wrap it up in a sailor's knot And hide it in your case If I knew for sure that it was yours But it was oh so hard to tell And you know that we shall meet again If your memory serves you well This wheel's on fire Rolling down the road Best notify my next of kin This wheel shall explode If your memory serves you well You'll remember that you're the one That called on me to call on them To give you your favors done And after every plan had failed And there was nothing more to tell You knew that we would meet again If your memory served you well This wheel's on fire Rolling down the road Best notify my next of kin This wheel shall explode If your memory serves you well If your memory serves you well

What's interesting about the Banshees is that they were never an instrument heavy band, yet everything I've ever heard from them, in terms of songs, always had a drum, bass and guitar riff, even for thirty seconds, that's unmistakable. I don't know who's playing guitar here, I can name twenty guitarists in twenty different bands and what they drink and what picks they use, but I can't say they always record something memorable.

So do I in fact all Siouxsie's covers in my opinion are better than the originals and some even thought the likes of Helter Skelter and Dear Prudence were The Banshees own songs anyway that show brilliant she is at reworking originals
@shinji19917 жыл бұрын
Hard to compare, but I can't see anything interesting in original Dear Prudence. Of course I understand the importance of The Beatles themselves (although I think that The Kinks were even slightly better), but it just sounds like some hippy boys on acid or whatever grabbed the nearest instrument and wanted to somehow save their memory of some trip. And who knows, if they would still be talked about with the same rate, if it wasn't for Lennon murder?

This is a great version. Not as good as the Byrds doing it live around 1970, but better than the Band for sure. Btw, me a huge fan of the Band. I think the version of Dylan singing this (accompanied by the Band) on the Basement tapes album is better than the Band's version on Music from Big Pink. Siouxsies version is certainly quite dramatic with some interesting dynamics. Budgie as usual comes up with sparse and effective drumming.
