I've googled for "how VoIP works" so many times, only to be fed the same marketing "it's like a normal phone but it works over the internet!". Completely useless information for understanding how VoIP works. This is the only resource I've found so far that actually explains what is going on.

At 4:15 the narrator states that the ethos of SIP is to have different devices from different vendors, so that there is no dependency on one vendor. Does this mean that avaya's PodFx goes completely against the SIP ethos? I'm just curious if the PodFx is somehow an exception from this. Thanks! !
