I love how extremely different the kids end up. Like Veruca just has some trash on her but Violet is blue and flexible for the rest of her life and Mike is like 15 feet tall and flat.

Veruca's parents are horrible, but it's a mixture of love and neglect. They just don't know how to parenting and think that by giving their daughter everything she wants she will be happy (and probably out of their hairs). The father learned his lesson in the end and finally said no for the first time to his brat. For Veruca's annoyance toward Violet, it's perfectly understandable. She's right next to someone who's chewing that damn gum 24 hours a day. That would annoy me too. Even when I was little, I pitied Violet. Her mother clearly lives through her. They wear the same clothes, too old for Violet and too young for her, same haircut, and only worries about her daughter winning the first prizes, as if Violet was an extension of herself and her daughter's victories were her victories. It's not pride but toxicity. I seriously think Violet's mom is the worst of the lot because all the other parents were afraid for their children, except this horrible woman. She is only worried that there is no new trophy in the house. Her daughter was a trophy, and now she's no longer fit to be seen in public. If this girl wasn't fictional, I would be worried about her home life now that she no longer fits the demands of her narcissistic mother.

Their parents are literally responsible for them being like that ( Veruca is spoiled because her father spoiled her and obeyed to all of her wishes, Violet feels superior to other because her mother raised her to be a winner at any cost, Augustus's mom encouraged him to eat a lot and Mike's parents have no authority.) I don't want kids but the whole point of Charlie and the chocolate factory is the bad influence of these kids' educations compared to Charlie's even if he's supposed to be the poor one.

I love the original actresses in Gene’s version of this but these two really brought out the toxicity of these characters. The original Veruca would protest and threaten to throw a fit if she didn’t get her way. This one already knew she would ultimately get what she wanted no questions asked. That’s pure evil. It’s sad this was Veruca’s actresses only film. She had a lot of potential.

The rotten kids in the remake are more rotten than the originals. Charlie got along with them in the 1971 version (edit: He even became pals with Augustus Gloop, and both young actresses genuinely had crushes on him.) But in the 2005 version… They ignored and outcasted Charlie while treating him like a good-for-nothing, just for being the peasant kid.
