Siren in Mililani sounds strange tone for hours; no emergency

The City and County of Honolulu said there is no emergency after a siren malfunctioned and sounded off in the Mililani area Monday morning.

That's a Modulator siren from Federal Signal, and this is one of the tones built into it. It's called "Westminster Chime" and is often used to mark the time here in mainland USA. I've never seen a malfunctioning siren play that tone, but it's not uncommon as a time marker. In Lexington, Oklahoma, they use Westminster Chime to warn people of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or high winds, so it definitely has other uses. It's definitely unusual to hear it during a malfunction, but I could see such a thing happening since it's a built-in sound for this model of siren.

You can hear and see the siren itself doing Westminster Chimes at 0:12. This is my first time seeing and hearing a Modulator siren in Hawaii doing Westminster Chimes.

Of course. Why would it sound when there is an emergency? Cant be giving people the heads uo to get safe. Ask lahaina about those sirens.

This siren wasn't hacked, most likely it was set off by a gecko or by itself due to aging as it is around 20+ years old this one was installed in 1999, also "that tune" is called "Westminster Chime" It comes pre-factory installed with the siren.
