Oh, man! Did I love Clash of the Titans! I'd gotten a copy of Edith Hamilton's _Mythology_ the year before, the perfect book for a 9-year-old, and tore right through it. I'm drawing pictures in my notebooks of Hercules, Theseus, Perseus, Zeus....and then here's this movie that's all about the Greek gods and heroes and monsters....you can imagine how pumped up I was to see it. And it was amazing.

I saw it when I was 13 and it did pique my interest in Greek Mythology too. Special effects at the time were great

I think I got this mixed up with _Jason and the Argonauts (1963)_ which also used stop-motion animation. I remember seeing someone did a modified frame-rate KZfaq video to make the skeletons look less jumpy. I think the Star Wars sequels also used stop-motion, as well as the Tim Burton movies.

I'm sure Roger thought twice of his "Cheech & Chong play other characters" idea years later when he saw "The Corsican Brothers"

History of the World Part 1 is exactly what Ebert said it was....and that was great! It was not constrained by plot or theme or subject. It was a history of Brooks' humor...and that was just fine with me.

I was 13 when my dad took my 17 year old brother and I to see it. I don't know if he didn't understand what a Mel Brooks picture would be, but he was not amused. I laughed my ass off at Madeline Kahn "My tits are falling off!"

HAMBURGER!!! My family saw Nice Dreams at the drive in back when it was released and my dad, who was a 30 year cop, laughed so hard we thought he’d have to be recussitated 😆😆he almost died when cheech couldn’t scratch his balls😂😂the memory of dad laughing so hard is a good one. He did say that he’d break our arms if. We did what they did.

"History of the World - Part I" is a hysterical film. The Inquisition number is brilliant. Gene got it right, but I think it's even better than he thought. It's not up there with "Young Frankenstein" but it's a terrific entertainment nonetheless.

Amazing that it made money while coming out the same weekend as _Raiders of the Lost Ark._ Maybe people couldn't get tickets to the latter, so saw this? In any cases it's one of only three fantasy / sword and sorcery movies of the 1980s that made money at the box office. _Conan the Barbarian (1982)_ and _The Dark Crystal (1982)_ also made money at the box office, but pretty much anything else you can think of didn't, like _The Princess Bride (1987),_ though they may have done so with VHS sales.

The genius of History of the World Pt 1 is that after seeing it as a kid, I actually started reading real history. As I got deeper into subjects I kept seeing little side gags from this movie that blew totally past me. The movie would go on to become a classic. And ... who doesn't love Jews in Space? I've been waiting for that movie for over 40 years now.

It's hard to tell if Roger Ebert actually watched Final Exam to the end because yes it does take a while before the killer "sticks his knife into the cast" but he does in the last half. (plus there's an opening kill with a couple in their car making for a bodycount of about 8 or 9) Did Roger Ebert just want more gore?
