A compilation of Siskel & Ebert reviewing the films of Francis Ford Coppola
From The Godfather to The Rainmaker, though since Coppola started before their show came out, they couldn't cover everything (No Godfather Part II, even in retrospect??? No Gardens of Stone, though, either...)
Apocalypse Now is very thoroughly covered. After that coverage, it's in chronological order
Primarily for educational purposes, but enjoy however you see fit!

In 1980, Apocalypse Now was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, but lost out to Kramer vs. Kramer. On their 1980 "If We Picked the Oscars" show, both Siskel and Ebert predicted (as most people did) that Kramer vs. Kramer would win, but Ebert argued that Apocalypse Now was a much better film. He said, "Ten or twenty years from now, Apocalypse [Now] will be remembered and studied, where Kramer vs. Kramer will be seen as a respectable, intelligent Hollywood domestic drama, but nothing terrific." I think it's fair to say he really nailed that one.

I love the little moment where Siskel tells Ebert that he had a convincing defense of the end of Apocalypse Now. These guys fought but they both had integrity and respect for one another.

Awesome to see Siskel gush about Hearts of Darkness, it's really one of the best documentaries ever. I also appreciate how he can make a good case about movies I love, like I disagree with him about apocalypse now (and others) but he's not wrong in his criticism.

Watching Gene Siskel backpedal on his criticism of "Apocalypse Now!" more every year they talk about it is hilarious! He went from hating it and not even wanting to acknowledge any part of the film was good. In their second go at it he admits the first half is great but doubles down on how bad the second half is. To he final review he tells Roger Ebert you just sold me on the ending. LMAO crazy how time can make a man feel different about a film. To be fair to Gene Siskel I did the exact same thing with "Jackie Brown". I went into the theater expecting another Pulp Fiction kind of crazy ride and absolutely felt betrayed and mislead into hating that movie with a passion. I watched it again for the first time since that day in the theater 25 years ago and I absolutely LOVED it. Now that I'm middle aged I easily identify with the characters and I no longer had a Pulp Fiction expectation and now it's one of my favorite QT Films.

you're great at lying. he didn't say that ebert "sold him," he said ebert was great at selling it, but he still didn't accept it. how about actually listening before going on a rant to confirm your bias that the movie you like is actually the best thing ever made and that everyone who doesn't think so is wrong. get lost bozo

While some critics have said that Apocalypse Now was a modern psychedelic fantasy based around Robert Conrad’s book Heart of Darkness, AN hit a nerve with veterans who saw the surreal nature of the film as akin to what they went through In Vietnam.

AN is great until the final act. Sorry, I never saw the big deal about Brando's Kurtz. He is basically half asleep reciting a College freshman's essay on the Vietnam War.
