A chronological compilation of Siskel & Ebert (and others later) reviewing the films of Paul Thomas Anderson
This is kind of a "mini-sode" (like the Farrelly brothers one I did) since it only covers 5 films, but it's a good one. And yes, Siskel was only alive for the first two films, so the title will be seen as a tease by those who don't know that, but it's the name of my series (and Ebert is still on most of these)
And this might as well be called "Ebert defends the films of Paul Thomas Anderson"
Primarily for educational purposes, but enjoy however you see fit!

Ebert continues to prove himself as a man ahead of his time.

He gave Dawn of the Dead top stars in 1978, an unrated and super edgy film for it's time. Was he always right? No, he was human thankfully. He really was the most thoughtful critic of all time and since his passing the idea of a critic has suffered for a boatload of reasons, if he was still alive he would likely balance this.

He knew a movie was great before we did. He was very progressive in his reviews of film and could spot directorial choices that were misogynistic and also call out art when it was in fact rallying against misogyny. He understood the importance of Spike Lee as a new voice in American cinema, regardless of what your opinion of him might be. He also didn't shy away from movie as entertainment and didn't stand atop his high brow pedestal. @@megazillion2946

@@maralinekozial9131 Sry, I maybe didn't phrase that right. To be clear Dawn of the Dead (78) is my favorite film of all time and I love his review of it! My old band even put out a album of Goblin covers from Dawn of the Dead that Claudio Simmoneti thought was great and Tom Savini said he played it in his shop. Best movie ever, for real. It's part of my artistic DNA.

Boogie Nights, Magnolia & There Will Be Blood are 10/10 films for me. There Will Be Blood is an all time classic & one of the best films ever made, IMHO.

Definitely would have loved to see them argue about Magnolia. Or maybe they would agree, who knows. The substitute critics all hated it with a passion. I love the movie but agree he could have cut some things.
