I recently watched The Stuntman on HBO Max. Great movie!

Good to see that Gene and Roger liked the long-unavailable-on-video Paul Simon vehicle _One-Trick Pony,_ which only got a digital release in 2009 as a Warner Archive DVD-R. Gene's review of _The Awakening_ (from November 4, 1980) was accompanied by a report about a (rather grim) prerecorded telephone message from the Parkway theater regarding a double bill it was offering: "Hi, kids. . . . today you can bring mom and dad to see two real neat films. First, 'Mary Poppins' at 2:50 and 7 o'clock. That stars Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke . . . before he hit the bottle."

Hershey does not get enough credit as a top level actress and a true screen beauty.

Stunt Man is Strange Movie to sit through, but Peter O'Toole is absolutely Fantastic in it

Wow- that LONG scene from One Trick Pony with the kid playing baseball , made me want to take a Hammer to my computer screen.

Well-deserved Oscar nomination for director Richard Rush (1994's dreadful The Colour of Night), the great Peter O'Toole, and for Lawrence Marcus' and Rush's Screenplay based on Paul Brodeur's novel. 👍👍

Just watched "The Stunt Man" and agree with everything Roger said. I don't understand why so many people love this movie. And they were very generous to "One Trick Pony."

If I remember correctly, "The Stunt Man" was a movie that the studio did not want to release. I think maybe it went straight to airline in-flight showings, then some critics saw it and called for it to be released in theaters. That was when I saw it. As far as the movie itself is concerned, I don't think movies are actually shot with actors applying bloody makeup and fake destroyed arms and legs to themselves during a long "take," which is what apparently happens here in the opening scene, but I still liked the movie.

Two notes of interest about the Dogs of the Week: "The Day After Halloween" was actually a well-received thriller in Australia where it was released under the title "Snapshot", and "Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend" did film a rape scene between one of the bad guys and a cheerleader BUT it was cut from the movie because the entire cast and crew hated it, feeling that such a brutal scene would have ruined what was intended to be a sexy exploitation film. Note of clarification: D KNIGHTMAN is correct that the rape scene did appear in the film's first release, when it was titled THE GREAT AMERICAN GIRL ROBBERY. However, the producers did get angry feedback from the cast and crew about it, and that's why they cut it from the 1981 re-release under the CWW title (not that it made critics like the movie, but oh well).

The Stunt Man is a great film. One Trick Pony and The First Deadly Sin were o.k., not great.

“The Awakening” came at a time when Heston was being cast in B-movies, although this one was his only horror film. At least he didn’t repeat that mistake.

The Awakening came out about the same time as a film with a somewhat similair plot line starring Harrison Ford was coming out. I like both films but the Harrison Ford film was the better one. Actually the Awakening A.K.A. Jewel Of The Seven Stars could have been a great film if the filmakers have followed the novel more closely.

Weird. I just watched their review of The Awakening (1980). Checked the photos on IMDB. There is a still of Central Park which, I assume, is from stock footage. The very same that starts the scene of Paul Simon playing with his son. (9:40) Weird.

The Stuntman was fantastic

I saw The First Deadly Sin and I think Sinatra was genuinely good and so were some of the supporting cast. The film itself was merely okay.

I haven't seen any of these movies.
