SIU raids Home Affairs refugee centres: Kaizer Kganyago

The Special Investigating Unit Head Advocate Andy Mothibi says he suspects there is a criminal syndicate operating at the country's five refugee centres. A whistleblower tipped off the SIU and Home Affairs Department to unlawful activities occurring at the centres, where officials are allegedly being bribed to issue fraudulent documents to unregistered foreign nationals. The SIU and the Hawks embarked on a search and seizure at Refugee Centres in Marabastad, Cape Town, Durban, Musina and Qheberha. SIU spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago.

Criminals can just walk over the borders of SA...this is an epidemic and has been for years, such is the corruption in this country. The policing just does not happen. This would never happen in a country with an efficient, caring government.

The SIU shouldn't have waited for a tip-off to commence the raid. Intelligence should be active 24/7. Also, legal migrants have been waiting for a response to their applications with home affairs, but nothing till date. Surely, the SIU can perhaps investigate those delays with some crossing 6years
