The AS «Val» (Avtomat Special'nyj Val, Russian: Автомат Специальный Вал or Special Automatic Rifle, code name: "Shaft", GRAU designation 6P30) is a Soviet-designed assault rifle featuring an integrated suppressor. Development of a special rifle (AS) "Shaft" began in the first half of the 1980s in the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TSNIITOCHMASH), in the city of Klimovsk, Moscow region. The lead designer of the rifle is Pyotr Serdyukov.
It was developed in 1987 by TsNIITochMash (Central Institute for Precision Machine Building). Since 1987, it was added to the arsenal of the Soviet Army and the KGB and is used by Russian Spetsnaz special forces and the MVD, FSB, OMON, SOBR, GRU, and select units of the Russian Army.
Due to the rifle being both expensive and in limited quantity, it is very rarely deployed according to some Russian Spetsnaz operators. It is deployed in special operations that are either sabotage or reconnaissance units behind enemy lines and is a favorite of Spetsnaz operators.

The ports in the barrel are part of the system, so there's more to it than meets the eye at first. But, this might be why they made the SR-3, not just to use no muzzle attachment, but to maybe use more modern suppressors which may be better. Also the pressure of the 9x39 drops much quicker than any normal subs, so you don't need an overly effective suppressor with a large number of baffles.

Glack baffles are in a suppressor moron, that’s what makes the suppressor make the gun quiet. But since these baffles are built into the gun we just say baffles. Dumbass you should’ve done some research

the purpose of the as val is to have a subsonic cartrige with decent power. A subsonic 556 would be very underpowered because the bullet it uses is very light. This is a heavy bullet in a small casing, plus it has a sharp end. 45 acp is similar to this round in power but it dosent have a sharp end so 9x39 has better penetration

@@dorian-stefanmarciuc9939 you're kind of right. The certain type of bullets it uses are AP. So tungsten carbide being very hard and being jacketed to protect the barrel its able to punch through armor or steel. Even tho it's near silent.

All this people don't realize the design of this weapon is 40 yo. I am sure that their weapon and ammunition designs of today are much better and ahead of time. Downside is that we will not be able to see it for the next 20 years.

@Konrad Kowalski True that, all you said. The limitation in range is also because of ammo. They needed a way to make this gun cycle because subsonic ammo does not have quite a kick. That's why the gas tube had to be so short - in order for gun to be able to cycle at all. That weird caliber is a biatch to make the gun run properly as I understood. But I love this gun.
