In this video, I mention six of many different hacks and accessories for hunting deer (or turkeys) out of a box blind to help you increase your odds of success!
Update...!! One season later, I shot a beautiful 9 point buck out of this hunting blind (seen on video thumbnail)!

Great tips Brett. I just finished putting a new box stand together right before the MN rifle opener. I built my first about 10 years ago, there is a slideshow video of it on my channel. On my new stand I took advantage of several of your great ideas. I made a little addition to your window design. I appreciate you and you channel. I will post a quick video showing the new stand soon. Thanks for the great content and stay safe in the field. Ben

Looks really good Ben! I like it! The shelf brackets for the porch post is a great idea. The shooting rest/shelves are too. Good explanation of the pros and cons of the windows flipping up v.s. down. Just a couple recommendations for your safety. A railing around the porch (already planned?), and some good grab handles on it, above your ladder somewhere. The last step off the top of a ladder and the first step onto it going down - it can be a bit tricky in the dark, and you've got some good height there. It's a great view! The LP tank seems a bit close to the heater. You might have a little room outside, on the porch for the tank, which might create a little more floor space inside. Great video tour overall & great looking deer tower there!!

@@UncleBucks Thanks Brett! Yes I plan on adding some rail to the porch in the future. The existing post on the right side as you come up is positioned well and makes a great hand hold to get in and out for now. The stand is pretty high up, so I don't blame you for your comment and appreciate your concern. As far as the heater you can imagine I put a fair amount of thought into it. My intent was to run the bottle in the corner and have the heater closer to the center of the stand. My hose is pretty stiff and won't allow me to snake it around though. Maybe a longer hose in my future? With the heater directed correctly believe it or not the milk crate the bottle is in does't get beyond warm. I figure if a 1 pound bottle can be screwed directly to the heater ill be fine if the big bottle is't getting beyond a little warm. I also really like being able to shut off and swap my propane from inside. I feel it's safer than messing with it on my porch or hanging under my stand. 😉 Your channel is a fantastic resource for hunters and can't thank you enough for taking the time to check out my build. On a side note have you ever considered doing a pentagon build? I might do one some day. Maybe 48"ish per side. Only need 5 windows to cover all walls, but have great visibility. I'll let you know if I start down that road. Good luck and stay safe. Ben

@Benjamin Mase appreciate the kind words Ben. I considered a pentagon before the hexagon, but after drawing out the base size, I felt it was a little tight to hunt out of with a vertical bow. I agree that too many windows can be cumbersome. I've got an idea for an unequal pentagon though. Maybe this winter. I think a better compound bow/gun combination blind can be done. Each one gives me new ideas for the next...

Probably not, but at least in my mind, I am not spooking the big bucks away - which there haven't been any around lately anyway 😆

Good ideas, but ear plugs for bowhunting?

I didn't have any video clips or photos to play - of gun hunting while wearing ear plugs. Guess I never directly stated that they are for when you would be gun hunting rather than bowhunting, but wasn't it implied?

What do you think about the odor that the buddy heater gives off? How does that effect deer?
@UncleBucks

I'm sure it doesn't help, but I always try to hunt with the right wind direction. It's that or just freeze and be miserable! Sometimes you only have so much time to hunt, so you just have to go for it.

Agreed, I use buddy heaters because it makes me sit more longer….I always wonder about the odor though Thanks for your videos…always thought provoking!
