The string stretcher is great honestly. Eddies guitar tech swore by those for years and I agree with him. Makes stretching the strings easy and fast. I use 2 because when you slide them back and forth the friction makes them hot.

The real one is called String Stretcha, $14 on StewMac. He’s also using it wrong in the video. Lift a bit, then slide up and down the neck 2-3x. Been using my original one for years and don’t need to “30 mins of playing in the strings. “

@@Ovibos5 I should’ve mentioned that the one in this video is a knock off. I own the original as well. They are great and you’re right 3 to 4 times per string and done. You also don’t lift the strings till they break. Good call on it not being the original 👍

I agree with all but one of those reviews, The string stretcher is actually a good product. Not sure why you dont stretch your strings when you first put them on but that device makes the stretching process go faster. You are actually supposed to put it on the string like you had it and slide it up and down a few times. The Ali express version is probably made much cheaper than the version I got earlier this year.

@@castleanthrax1833 Because when you have a lot of guitars (and especially if you're a guitar tech on tour with a band) there is much time to be saved with this tool, plus not all of us have indestructible hands and actually enjoy having at least some of our skin left for actually playing the guitar.

It's actually a good product. You set it up on the string and use very light pressure from your hand to run it up and down the string a couple times then retune until it doesn't go out of tune. Usually 3 tries and you are done. I didn't get mine from aliexpress though. I got the string stretcha which is made in USA. Probably no difference and I over paid, but it works great.

Streching your strings actually gives you more time to play. Stretching them for a minute or two is a lot better than wasting 10 munites contantly retuning your strings while you're actually trying to play, but I and I think most people, just do it by hand, but I guess that product does make it faster/easier, but hands are just fine for that as well.

I came here to take up for the "string stretcher", but looks like MANY ppl beat me to it lol. For 30+ years I've ALWAYS stretched the strings by hand in that same fashion when installing new strings. I start by pressing the first fret, pull up on the string in a few different spots to stretch it, & repeat all the way down the fretboard - skipping every other fret or so - and continue doing so for every string. I find that the process saves me a lot of "break-in" time & provides much more tuning stability right off the bat. So that product would actually be very useful for me. In fact I'm going to order one right now! 😊

Not sure why you've never heard of doing this (or choose not to do this)... This tool makes it so you don't need to work your hands raw from stretching them with your fingers. If i remember correctly, the original manufacturer of the tool sells theirs for about $12 on Amazon, but i can't imagine a $4 knock off would be all too different.

I tend to stretch my strings once or twice manually using my fingers and thank God that doesn't cost $4.04. I pinch the strings together and pull up on them a little, give each a big bend and very rarely do I have any issues with them settling. I also know the sweet spot for stretching them at this point though, I used to love re string days or as my girlfriend calls them guitar spa days, but at 18 guitars, 3 basses and counting its becoming a literal whole day procedure. We'll worth it for the first few super crisp and clean pinch harmonics on each one though lol.

Stretching your strings by hand actually very good way to break them in. This gadget just does it wrong, applying too much tension with a steep angle. I give them a good tug (while minding my force) from the middle point around 12th fret, while holding the string down around the 1/2 fret with my other hand. Makes everything settle down in its place.

While the string stretcher as a product is useless, it's also nonsense that you need to play your new set of strings to stay in tune. Just give them a good stretch by hand to tighten up lose windings around the tuners and the plasticity of the strings and simply tune again. How do you think guitar/bass techs of sweaty players like Mark King do this, who switch strings on the bass/guitar during the gig and who want that extra bright sound of fresh strings?
