As others have said, this is Geoff’s personal music, unrelated to VoicePlay and he has put out six covers so far by himself and every single one has been amazing. Fun fact for this video: he did not use subharmonics at all, everything is in his chest voice, which is insane. 1st thing.. Cas-tuh-loo-chi... is how to say his last name. Lol! I've always loved this song, but Geoff adds his own spice to the original recipe! Tim Foust has worked with him in the past to extend his range. I am constantly amazed at how nimble he is bouncing all over the octaves without ever sounding forced or strained. And most basses that can hit those low notes, they just end up sounds. With Geoff you can actually understand the words. I'm right there with you on Voice Play. Some of their arrangements are not to my personal liking. But that's ok too! It's just my opinion. I'm not taking away from the overall talent of the group. Great to see you and your jaw dropping expressions! I knew before you started that you were gonna spend most of the song that way! Lol! As always, an awesome reaction! ❤

My favorite bass will always be Avi, but Geoff comes in second with Tim rounding out the three. To me, it all comes down to tone. So far I haven’t heard anyone that can match Avi when it comes to that smooth sweet heavenly voice.

Maybe now you can check out a couple of his other videos that are really amazing. “Blackbird”, “High and Dry”, and a fun one “The Bare Necessities”. Voice Play has been getting guest high tenors since Earl left. Worthy of checking out, as well. Anyway, I can tell you loved this one and see the amazing talent in this man!

It's my understanding that the inspiration for this song was John Henry (Big John). A very "strapping" black man who was famous for racing a digging machine as to prove which of the two could produce the most tonnage. I live about thirty miles from "Big John's" statue, and the tunnel that he and the race, made famous. Despite whatever "version" is told, John Henry's story is a great, and under-appreciated, part of Americana.

You hit the nail on the head...sometimes it's the arrangements with Voiceplay, not the talent level.

I've heard this last week and now I revisit this song daily :-) obsessed with Geoff's singing.

I feel the same way about Voice Play, super talent but I'm not crazy about a lot of their arrangements. But Geoff is a very special talent.
