Hers my take on indoor and outdoor wheels, for outdoor skaters if you're a dance skater, if you can find a set of small orang or yellow krypto's for indoors I've found the flomac premiers one of thr oldest companies around and Canadian little Red or green wheels if there still made and last but not least unfortunately I can't remember the name the wheel was the most popular at the time was the all American dream and for the people that wanted a less expensive wheel was the all American plus, and for inside a higher hardness like around 97 ish was good and for outdoors a softer compound something in the 80ish durometer is was better to absorb the bumps in the road. Signed " WHEELS" that was my nickname. I skated at empire roller dome then metropolis skate club on west 55the in Manhattan and last but not least Roxys roller rink great cast, keep up the good work, "Quad skates for life"!🙃

I’m not sure we’re to post this question. 2 months ago I bought the Riedell Uptown’s with Radar 97a wheels with Abec-5 bearings. After some research, I ended up getting Rollerbones logo 101a and Reds bearings. I love the grip of the wheels, but the bearings are a whole lot faster than what I’m used to. I’m considering putting lesser bearings in it as I try to go a bit slower and focus on technique rather than speed at this point. Do you recommend for me to wrestle through this until I master the new bearings? Or do you have any other recommendations? Thank you,
@Sk8Fam3 жыл бұрын
the bearings not making you go faster, its the wheels most likely. most bearings produce the same effect. but going from 97a to 101a, u will definitely notice a faster roll. 97a is softer, so they roll slower.

there are multiple ways to achieve that. more stability = bigger wheel, but bigger wheel = more speed lol. so to counter the bigger wheel, you could go softer in durometer. try the atom pulse wheels, they are big and soft. they are for outdoors, but you could use them indoors as well and be very comfortable.

@lyndagruen20475 жыл бұрын
Hi Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam! I skate inlines and skateboards, and I can attest that similar concepts apply when I'm skakting, too. Sounds like roller skating would be most comparable to skateboarding. On my trick board, I have loose trucks and smaller wheels, both in diameter and thickness. They are also a little rounded on the edges for tricks. The trick board is more challenging to balance on due to the loose trucks and thinner wheels, but the smaller diameter - probably combined with slower bearings - mean that the board doesn't roll as much on flat ground. Less rolling is good for improving front / back balance (from board view, or in the case of being in a riding stance, our body's side-to-side balance). The slower roll on trick boards is probably by design, because trick boards are normally used for outdoor (and sometimes indoor) skate park obstacles like ramps, bowls, banks, boxes, coping, rails, etc. You'd be surprised how much speed you can pick up on those obstacles. So, slower wheels there is a bit of a good thing. My cruiser boards have larger wheels with faster bearings. Both of these factors mean that those boards will roll further. They are softer wheels, too. Combined with the large diameter, this means the boards will also roll a lot more smoothly on rougher surfaces outside, like rougher asphalt with some moderate settlement cracks. My skate park wheels are harder than my cruiser wheels for durability with the tricks. The softer cruiser wheels wear down over time, but their softer material makes cruising around my neighborhood much more enjoyable, whereas harder wheels would give me a much rougher - and not-so-fun - ride. While my cruiser boards do have larger wheels that will move more than smaller wheels, because they are wider width-wise and paired with tighter trucks / harder bushings, the cruiser boards are much more stable side-to-side (from the board perspective) than my trick board. This is why I prefer to loan out my cruiser boards when neighborhood kids ask to learn to ride. Now, as for inline skating: I have a pair of larger-wheeled recreational skates and a pair of smaller-wheeled skate park "aggressive" skates. (No joke, skate park inline skating is called aggressive inline skating.) Here is where things probably differ from roller skating and skateboarding: my *larger* 80mm recreational wheels are actually *thinner* and *rounder* than my smaller and thicker / blockier 57mm aggressive wheels. *So, for inline skating, sometimes smaller wheels will give you more side-to-side stability.* BUT, this rule may not hold true all the time. For example, triskates - perhaps moreso inflated off-roading triskate inline skates - may have fairly thick wheels for their size. But I must say that I can't think of thicker or necessarily smaller inline skating wheels than aggressive wheels. So, combined with the slower bearings and shorter frames - our rough equivalent of plates / chassis, I guess - aggressive inline skates can be a reasonable choice for learning some balance-based tricks on inline skates, like wheelings (manuals). Granted, though, my recreational inlines handle turns and higher-speed tricks more effectively. This is probably why most inline skaters who like to do flat-ground tricks or slalom will opt for shorter-framed slalom skates or free skates. Hope the comparison helps for anyone interested. = )
@lyndagruen20475 жыл бұрын
Incidentally, I've used hard and soft wheels indoors and out. I haven't noticed much damage to hardwood flooring indoors; but if I should consider hardness - or debris / road tar - someone please let me know. Thanks! = ) As for outdoors, I definitely prefer softer wheels on asphalt. Skate parks tend to have smooth-ish concrete, so harder wheels work great there, as long as the skate park is properly-maintained.

Some swear by those "ABEC" ratings...but honestly? They're a joke. The ABEC system was invented for machinery. ABEC-1's are good for "slow rotations" - slow, in this case, being up to 25,000 revolutions per minute. ABEC-3's are for 25,001 to 30,000 RPM's. Etc. The ONLY way you're going to get that many RPM's on your skates is if you're doing about 300 miles per hour! I can go pretty fast on my skates, but I top out somewhere around 40-45 MPH so the likelihood you'll actually need ANYTHING above an ABEC-1 is....pretty much impossible. Mixing ABEC numbers won't matter in the slightest, whether you skate indoors or out....though I would highly recommend getting bearings specifically made for roller skates (that is, just about any bearing that isn't ABEC rated) as they'll preform better, last longer, and - with indoor skating only - won't need to be cleaned nearly as often since the shields are often tighter than the ABEC-rated ones. Hope this helps and roll on!
