Great tip on adding dummy power and audio cable plugs when laying out the board - Temple does have an Evidence audio plug you can place on each pedal, but there's something also about physically laying the pedals out to see how it works ergonomically. PedalTrain and the others do not, so I know I went through cramming way too many pedals onto a board with the online tools... Also for those interested in Temple Audio, they will cut the boards to shorter length, so in the case of the board you showed, you can ask them to make it 32", 31", etc. Does require using their system - or if not, zip ties work well... but your riser system is a great way to get more pedals in a smaller space.

i think that with this specific pedalboard in any case other than the Travel Compact, there's no need whatsoever in a loop switcher. you need it when you have that second floor of pedals that make the first unaccessible. but with one level high board this size, there's hardly any need for a switcher. so if you get rid of a switcher, you considerably downsize the pedalboard and it fits nicely even on the smallest ones. plus the power supply will go underneath the board, which in not the case of a two-floor travel compact. so, if your pedalboard is big enough to use a switcher, the idea of having two floors is actually brilliant, but with smaller ones, it kinda creates the problem that it is trying to solve.

The switcher is the key in this build. I've always thought a two tier board would be ideal. I've been looking at the Friedman board for a while but I thing your board takes that design to another level....no pun intended. Even without a switching system you gain the benefit of having your power supply on the board rather than under it and also having some storage in the compartment if you choose. It would be nice to have the option of another height for the riser, perhaps shallower. An attachable hard cover would be a nice feature also.

Boy you are right. I would recommend going up a size as minimum. I am on my 5 & 6 boards. I use two boards with a tiny Art patchbay on each to couple them together because of bulk and weight. I use 40 pedals on each. The pedals are grouped as if they are 4 self contained small pedal boards. Each group on one switch of the Boss DS 5. Each has it's own Comp, Reverb, Delay and gate etc. One is my low gain group, another medium gain etc. The concept is when I do a tune to create the overall impression of hearing the tunes sound like a Post produced recording. I play only original material. I have a 3 piece power trio. Most of our audience at a gig has never heard the tunes and we only get one chance to make a first impression. The board allows for a lot of drama with orchestra like jump cuts between parts of a tune and more variation in sound than most 4 and 5 piece bands. I can put the audience thru the back wall on a chorus with a Modern Metal slam and then with a Byrds like flat picked middle 8 I can change the mood. I use the Digitech faux 12 string pedal with two compressors and Vox treble booster to pull off this. I even have a Fender with a Ric PU at the neck and Tele at the bridge. I also use 9 different guitars.All sonically and visually different. It has all become part of the show! The audience love it!!! A wise lady once told people do not come to hear the band but SEE the band! It does not change how good you play ...in fact it forces you to be better because you definitely are going get everyone's attention. LOL

It would be awesome if you guys could include some kind of case or carry bag that would work with your tiered boards. Here in Australia the recommended cases are hard to come by and are really expensive to import (over 2x the cost of the board itself). It's the only thing holding me back from buying a Vertex board.
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc Жыл бұрын
Stefan - the reality is for the money we can't make a better case than Pelican, SKB, or Gator, so we made our boards to the size of their standard cases. For us to make equal quality it would cost at least 30% more than our competitors and be the same quality. This is why we don't include a case or a gig bag. There aren't any Pelican, SKB, or Gator dealers in Australia?

@@VertexEffectsInc in theory it does. based on the measurements provided. but when installed, take in account the power cable has to be in the back, this pushes the power supply few inches from the tallest place in the board (the back) toward the lowest (front). then added the velcro it adds to the height of the supply. i did try to turn the power supply to where the outlets to power the pedals was facing the back, its harder to add another cable to add another pedal. i would recommend the 1spot 7 pro, is lower i believe. and it depends how many pedals you will have on your board. But you have the solution to that, lol.

Hey Mason I did see all the options you have for risers and I do realize that they're interchangeable. My comment was about the hight of the riser. It appears that they're all the same hight, I believe 3-1/3"
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc 3 жыл бұрын
Basically the idea is that it could could clear most "taller pedals" or a double power supply, Zuma + Ojai, Cioks 7 + Cioks 4, etc. The clearance is 3". The back of a Pedaltrain Classic is 3.5" - some of it is optical illusion, your pedals aren't really higher than they'd be on another, perhaps more familiar, platform.

Hi Mason! I am based in Portugal, so ordering from gomc would be too expensive. Do you think that pickguard material (not ABS) would be good to sandwich the plywood (top and bottom) or would I have adhesion problems with the Dual-Lock ? Or should I use other laminates ? @@VertexEffectsInc my only suggestion/question for the board, and I'm sure you've already thought of this, is have you considered the top row being angled forward for slightly improved ergonomics? The hinge is brilliant and the whole board is very attractive looking otherwise.
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc 3 жыл бұрын
I have not, it would require making everything higher actually to still have the same clearance in the front for a switcher and since the primary idea here is that you were using some sort of switcher or true bypass looping system, you shouldn’t have much need to activate pedals individually. This will be the same issue on any flat surface, I don’t tend to favor the angled boards. If you can traverses staircase, a pedalboard tier should be no problem.

Tim Young that one I’m likely not doing because it really shouldn’t work but does on some pedal combos. Ideally you’ll need a MIDI Solutions splitter or similar. There will be conditions where the current isn’t sufficient to parallel to multiple devices.

@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc 3 жыл бұрын
We have a few videos that we’ve done on power supplies which you can search for in or videos, I also did one for Sweetwater when I talk about this briefly as well. The basic rule of thumb is any linear power supply with a transformer is going to be problematic in certain conditions because of the magnetic field, these days it’s much easier to get a switch mode power supply in these do not have the same issues pertaining to effects pedals in their proximity to the power supply.

Yes, unfortunately so it's mainly for studio/bedroom tone accomplishment. If there's more than an I/O jacks, odds are it's for a stereo option or an XLR connection. Most new/boutique pedals have options to connect it to a "central" board, almost like you'd see on multi-effects, if that makes sense. you really only see that for big gigging musicians.

There is a list of all compatible cases on the product page on our website that meet all the weight requirements for a sub 50 lbs pedalboard fully assembled (in 90% of the cases). Some folks have really unusually heavy pedals, power supplies, etc. But in the majority of cases we can easily have the entire rig travel-able for checked baggage or in many cases, even carry on.
