“The second song we present to you from our upcoming album is ‘Verðandi’. Parts of the story of Ullur presented on the album are told through the eyes of the Norns - Urður, Verðandi and Skuld. Past, present and future. The Norns live at the foot of Yggdrasill where they spin the threads of fate of all men. The three Norns all get their own song on the album and here we enter the realm of the present with Verðandi.
In two ways this song has a really classic feel to it. Firstly it is heavily inspired by the more classic styles of Metal and has a very old-school vibe. Secondly it can be seen as a classic SKÁLMÖLD song, driven forward by a really catchy and folk inspired melody, yet still heavy and epic.”

Go check out their performance with the Icelandic Philharmonic. It's truly epic. Edit: Also, Med Vettum is my favorite album of theirs.

I listened to this while driving in Iceland on the one radio station you could get outside the major cities! Never thought I would be able to find it again. Song kicks ass!

What brings me so much joy with this is the three distinct vocal styles, and the sheer musicality of the band - the way it slips into the quiet moments, the build, and then the return to a thrashing metal beat! (Always love hearing the whole band sing too.) So glad they're touring Australia next month, I'm flying over from New Zealand just to catch the first gig in Sydney.

@@sylviamrowe Nope, the only Skálmöld concert I've been to is my DVD of their symphony concert. But to make up for it I've watched that one a LOT!

@@desaturated-firefox the Kvaðning video with the symphony was my introduction to the band. I was fortunate to see the 2018 symphony concerts (three of the four, that is) as well as last year's anniversary concerts. Just wish I could make it over for the Ýdalir release shows or any of the European tour shows.
