The Hobbyking SK450 is a brilliantly designed 450mm quad frame built from top quality materials. The main frame is high quality glass fiber while the arms are constructed from ultra durable polyamide nylon.
This quad not only looks great, its very well thought out as well. Assembly is a breeze with pre-threaded brass sleeves for all of the frame bolts, so no lock-nuts are required. It utilizes one size of bolt for the entire build, making the hardware very easy to keep in order and only requiring one size of hex wrench to assemble.
The SK450 also has an orientation feature which is quite clever. It includes a yellow foam ball which you install on a carbon rod that mounts between the frame arms. This not only acts as a bumper to prevent running into obstacles, it also makes for a great orientation aid to keep track of the front of the quad while flying.
We offer a full line of multi-rotor electronics such as multi-rotor control board, ESC & motors. It has never been easier or more affordable to get a quad in the air!
Features:
Built from top quality glass fiber and polyamide nylon.
Pre-threaded brass sleeves for all of the frame bolts.
Yellow orientation ball to keep you flying in the right direction.
Easy assembly.
Specs:
Width: 450mm
Height: 80mm
Weight: 300g (w/out electronics)
Required:
4 x 28mm 1000~1200kv (or similar size/kv)
4 x 15~25 Amp ESC
4 x 8x4~10x4.5 Prop (2CW & 2CCW)
1 x HobbyKing Multi-Rotor Control Board
1 x 1500~2200mAh 3s 11.1v Lipoly battery
Your own radio and 4 channel receiver

Good job! I am a beginner trying to build and set up a quadcopter. I have watched a lot of videos. This series is the best I have seen yet, especially the section on setting up the P and I. Thank you for all the effort. I have given you a THUMBS UP and will subscribe.

The esc firmware was not flashed. All the parts used to put this Quad together were used right out of the box with no changes made. Nothing's been changed yet because so far I'm happy with the way it flies.

Nice work Frank. Rolf has posted the 1.5 Firmware update which addresses the auto level issue. It is actually designed to right the copter, should it become inverted or out of whack. He does some great demos where he tosses the Copter into the air like a frisbee and the auto level sets it up right. Very nice. I have flashed all my KK2.0 with the 1.5 version now. Cheers.

No, all programming is done through the Menu using the on board LCD screen of the KK2. That's the nice thing about this one, you can easily make setting changes at the field without the need of a computer. Please watch the part 2 video on how to navigate the menu and set everything up.

I think so too! Man just having your consensus on this makes me feel better and gives me the balls to tweak these settings. The reason I am so timid on stuff like this is because I recently asked ten thousand questions on youtube about “Clearing” my RadioLink TX & the only 2 people that I found that had one said “Sure man do it”. Well nobody told me that ch 1 is RVST so you can imagine what happened when I tried to arm it 4 the 1st time! lol Not pretty dude! Thanks for your help man.

Tom, yes if you get everything listed in the video information bar you should have everything you need but like you said you will also need a control board like the kk2. The link at the very bottom takes you to the accessories where you can choose the standoffs for the control board along with a battery strap and any extras you want.

Did not paint them. It came with all white arms. The red ones can be bought in the frame parts section for the SK450 on HobbyKing website. They also have them in black or green.

Hey Frank, thanks for the videos. I got this quad a couple of weeks ago and have been having a blast with it. I hooked up a Fat Shark Teleporter FPV system and I have been getting some great aerial footage. The tuning tips helped me out a lot and now I have a basic understanding of how to make adjustments to get it to fly well. Hopefully soon I'll get the nerve up to fly with the goggles only and not the little 7" screen while peeking up to see what's going on. It's a bit scary when you can't see anything else but about 32 degrees field of view :) Keep up the good work.

Sounds like you need to adjust the minimum throttle values in the misc settings. This is covered in the part 2 video if you skip to around 9:10minutes in the video. You want to adust the value up a little at a time till all esc start up at the same time.

Stick scaling is like having adjustable rates on your control throws. the higher the number the higher the rate of movement. Sounds like you need to lower yours if that's possible with your older kk board. I don't know because I've never used one. P and I has to do with gyro gains. You can fine everything you need to know if you click the link to the KK2 forum on rcgroups located in the video information bar below the video. That's how I learned a lot about it.

EPA (End Point Adjustment) is the end point of travel or movement so yes I would believe this is similar to stick scaling.

Not quite sure but I get about 5-7 minutes out of mine with the setup on this quad. Your motors are smaller so should get better run times depending on the prop size and pitch. I suggest using a LiPo low voltage buzzer the kind that plugs into the balance plug and buzzes loud when you hit a certain voltage per cell. Hobbyking sells them just do a search

This is actually quite normal as the KK2 board does not have a barometer for altitude hold. You just need to learn to give a little throttle when you move forward to keep your altitude steady and back off the throttle when you flare it to reverse. If you want altitude hold you will need to buy a control board with that option like a Naza M or MultiWii board.

Please click on the link to the kk2 forum on rcgroups in the video information bar below the video. the link is all the way at the bottom. If you read through the first couple pages and watch the posted videos you will find answers to the I&P gains and the stick scaling questions you have. It's just too detailed for me to cover it in a comment.

I gave up on the auto level feature and haven't used it since making this video. I hear that firmware version 1.5 works much better. You might want to give that at try. I believe you can download it from the kk2 forum on rcgroups. As for me I'm happy flying without it.

This is a good board for this quad but I can't say if it is the best, there are too many other ones out there. As far as flashing the board I still have the original firmware that was on the it when it shipped. I'm happy with the way it flies so haven't changed it. I don't fly using the auto level feature but it still works fine and is very stable.

I think these three videos are absolutely fabulous! I was struggling with my first quad set-up before i chanced upon these videos. I ran thru them in detail and followed the steps every bit of the way and surprise of surprises...I managed a successful first flight straight away - with the auto levelling on! However, my quad tends to flip to the left with the levelling on. Any valuable tips? Anyway, congratulations on a video excellently made. I wish there were more such videos for other models with other boards.

Nice series of videos on the SK450. They have helped me build, setup and fly not only my first quad, but my first RC anything ever. I flew my SK450 for the first time this weekend. I noticed that it would loose altitude when pitching forward but not when pitching backwards. In fact it would gain a little altitude when pitching backwards. Do you have any recommendations on what may be causing this or pointers on what I can trim to fix this issue? Thanks for the great videos.

Rolf Bakke aka KapteinKUK the original creator of the KK board correct the auto level issue in firmware version 1.5 now you could toss it at 75% throttle and it would catch itself. Those who have flown 1.5 say its nearly as crisp as naza auto level .

I am waiting for my new props to come in right now so I am going to balance my motors as I wait then I am going to tweak the EPA to see if I cant get this thing flying a lil better. BTW I can actually fly the thing safely and land ok as-is and all of my crash's have been due to some adjustment that I made without knowing what I was doing. My RTF came with NO instructions AT ALL and that’s been my biggest challenge. I think I should just break-down and buy the kk2 board. Really want the NAZA tho

Should have no problems lifting that much weight. At full throttle all four 10 inch props put out a calculated 4000grams of thrust. Even at half throttle would be about 2000grams. This Quad with out a battery weighs in at 900grams.

This quad weighs in at about 1300g ready to fly with 4000mAh 3 cell battery. So you are looking at about 2100g-2500g depending on how you mount the camera. Each motor with a 10x3.8 prop at full throttle puts out about 1300g of thrust. It should be able to handle the camera but will shorten your flight times. You might want to go with a lighter camera.
