I never wear socks when I skate. It just feels good because my feet just shift inside socks. You should try it out!!

I ride an fr1 with intuition liner, endless 90 frame and a super feet hockey insole and it was night and day difference from my micro mt4 that I had before, sooo much more control my cross overs and power stops got sooo dialed in immediately. The intuition liner with a downsized boot is perfectly molded to my foot the frame becomes an extension to my leg no movement at all

As a former professional athlete, (but not skater) I WILL say that in ALL disciplines, the one thing that almost ALWAYS matters is fit. If the boot or style doesn't fit your foot right, don't settle, unless it's cheap and you're just trying-out whatever discipline it is. Once I found the boot and liner that fit right, it was a WORLD of difference. Much more stable ride, and freed me from the ground. If I go back to the old one, I know I have to take it easy because they shift around on my foot, EVEN THO they're the "right size".

Great point, and I think so many people don't know they're in the wrong skate. "Please give advice on how to break the skate in! It's really painful, and I get terrible blisters. Why is breaking a skate in so painful?!" Yeah, no, dude, you're in an I'll-fitting skate. "But everyone says the Seba/FRs are the best, bro! Just need to break it in!" NO! Just find a skate that actually fits your foot shape!

I’m glad I met you a month ago in pier 76 NYC. I’m one of the people who bought too many gear because I was thinking too much. I only went through a lot of skates because of the sizing and fit. Thank you for the tips.

Great video squid, I’d say a big factor I’ve found personally is the weight of the setup rather than the specs - I just upgraded to the crossfires and the only noticeable thing for me is how light weight they are so I’d say that’s something people could have in mind when getting a pair. Love the ‘real review’ style of this though, more people need to hear it 🦑

Great info. I really like your relaxed attitude. You are one of the best skaters out there and it is so good to hear your words about equipment. I take it to heart. I have changed my attitude towards my skills and try to have a relaxed attitude toward that as well. I have had a desire to get better in skating. I have watched a lot of youtube videos trying to learn how to improve my skills. I still want to do improve that but, recently I have relaxed my desire and told myself it will come but might take longer time than I want. I will turn 60 in october. I want to be able to skate some 15 years more. My goal is to improve my overall control and balance. I know how to skate backwards but not with control and balance. Before I would have wanted to be able to get the control ”this year” or ”next month”. I have left goals like that. If I can go backwards with control by 65 is ok. I want to relax and enjoy skating at the level I am at right now and not be frustrated over lack of progress. I believe I might progress through quantity of skating. If I do not progress I am happy at least of the level I am at.

Just to say: you don't change an Intuition liner every year, it lasts 5 years and more pretty easily... So if you divide 200$ through 5 🤔 you get actually one of the "cheapest" liners available 🤓 Frame lenght makes also quite a difference (at least to me), short frames feel wobbly bombing hills and that feels a bit scary... Maybe Flying Eagle sends you their new X5 wirh 4x90 rockered frames, then you don't need to spend money to try 😉

Yeah was amazed to hear that. A new FR liner every year? That's really bad. Intuition liners bake in to your foot too. Most people like them most 2-5 years in. The smartest economical route is being not only frugal, but having foresight. It's like going to the dollar store to buy one thing 10 times, instead of spending 5 bucks on something that'll last.

I'm a brand new skater on Powerslide Next 90 x 4. The boot was so painful...Until I added insoles, & took a heat gun to the boot. I stuck a large glass bottle in, to stretch out the boot. Now I can skate for an hour and a half (17 miles). The frame is too long for me to be maneuverable (275mm) size 44/45 boot. So I will try 3 x 110mm, 255mm rockered. The streets are abnormally rough in my town,. I'm talking spikey, moon crater, asphalt streets, so I will try 110mm wheels. The 90mm just can't handle the roughness. I know Squid doesn't like 110mm wheels... But I suggest to try the Trinity Frames, its not a marketing gimmick, they really are quite lower to the ground then other 3 x110 skates.

When a wheel doesn't turn well sometimes I see I screwed them on super tight. Just unscrew it a little and it usually goes fine.

That means the bolt tension is putting a lot of side load into the bearing. A slightly bigger spacer would help this.
@endlessblading
@endlessblading 9 ай бұрын
Anytime a wheel has trouble spinning it is usually due to improper bearing seating, missing spacer, or a spacer with a non-optimal length (assuming the frame doesn’t have some obvious mechanical defect like a burr or uneven wheel boss surface). The first thing to do is remove the bearings from the wheel and re-install them. Using a bearing press would be ideal. But if you don’t have a bearing press what I find works very well is to hold two wheels in your hand, face to face, and then squeeze them together. Then flip the wheels to the other sides and squeeze tightly again. That usually does a better job than just pressing the bearings in with the skate tool that comes with your skates. If that doesn’t solve the issue then it’s likely a spacer issue. Spacers need to be matched with the core of wheel for optimal results and fastest spin. I recommend the Sonic Sports floating spacers, which are precisely machined and work well with all the U.S. made wheels like Hydrogens and our Endless wheels. Always tighten axles so they are snug. I recommend using a good tool to torque the axle until it’s stops spinning easily and then tighten snug about an extra 1/8 of a turn. I hope that helps.

The wheels that dont spin well might need a different spacer. Bolt tension can put a huge side load on the bearing if the spacer is too small. Spacers are pretty cheap and come in different sizes. Or for $20 you can get adjustable spacers that can be dialed. These can be used for all future wheels and bearings so its a cheap way to get great spin, even from crappy bearings.

I have 5 pairs. 3 Rockered 4x80 setups (imperial, Twister XT, Oxelo MF500, 1 Rockin 580 in M12 setup, 1 Twister 3WD setup. I agree with this video, it doesn't matter, all decent hardshell skates are good and you only need one pair of 4x80 for life. All are fun and as an enthusiast I love them but my verdict is: I do prefer 4x80 above all my other setups. I would say 4x90 rockered would be great.

I've had a pair of Zetra Blades from Dick's for five years or so, rink skating with the kids once or twice a month. Recently started trying street/path skating and realized that I might want to maintain the skates! I got new, harder wheels and kept the bearings, just cleaning off all the grime. If it ever stops raining on weekends I really want to get outdoors more.

It's all about the experience. If it makes you feel like you're on top of the world spending a little bit extra on bearings or wheels go for it! I don't spend a ton of money on skate gear because I don't have it. however, I do think wheels make a huge difference. I've skated cheap wheels and hydrogen bullet profile wheels and the latter makes me feel in more control and for a few extra dollars hydrogens last twice or 3x longer and those cheap brick and mortar store wheels. I saw one of your videos a few months ago you had bought new white fr1's what happened? You gotta break those puppies in!

It's easy to see everyone always getting new gear and feel like you should get a buncha stuff as well. Everyone's all into big wheels and rockered frames. Personally I feel like seieng what you do in your standard 80mms has helped me stick with what I've got. I've just got the budget RB cruisers which have served me really well. I did fork out on Rollerblade Hydrogen wheels though which are pretty sick and also they're blue which is cool. I also got the absolute bottom of the barrel cheapest bearings and my wheels roll really well with them, I see mixed opinions on bearings but I read enough people say "it doesn't matter" to just get them.

Love the RB Cruiser. Also cheapest bearings are often sealed better than the expensive ones so will last longer. The differences can be seen in a lab, rarely on the street. Also Hydrogen wheels are the best.

There a good feeling of content when you're using stuff that still works 100% even thought it looks dated. Sure it's nice to buy new stuff all the time but you'll be afraid to scruff it and once you do, you have a feeling of it just might as well.
