Awesome review! Thank you very much for sharing. I agree with everything you’ve said and am working on improvements for many of the things you mentioned. You are absolutely correct that Pascal is a huge inspiration for this build. I’ve spoken with him many times and he gave me many good pointers, he does amazing work. Thanks again for sharing, it certainly helps to get other points of view.

Having built two of these now, I highly suggest this project. Once you get into it, especially if you like to try different set ups and mods, is very addicting.

Great review, I’m a huge snowmobile fan/racer. My buddy printed this snowmobile and I knew needed a 3D printer. 10 hrs assembling my Prusa kit, 3 weeks later, and a huge learning curve my seat has 2 hrs left and my sled is mostly assembled... just in time for spring haha... excited to get it going and follow this group for mods. 🤘

First, I want to say, your channel is awesome and exactly the type of channel I've been wanting for a while now. Second, this is an awesome model that's worth printing even if just for a shelf piece. I also wonder if it would work in sand 🤔🤔

Thanks for the kudos! Sand is an interesting idea... might just have to give that a shot soon.

You call the knuckle I call them spindles. I’ve been trying to make strong Spindles and yes the front suspension is what takes the most damage

On my experience, PLA track has a good upside as the track is really light to roll. On my sled I run Castle SV3 with 9/42 gearing, and it can easily run on 2S lipo (30C rating). I also use much smaller track profile and pin for the links, 1mm spring steel wire. With a 3S 30C lipo there have been very few link breaks, begun testing with a 3S 70C lipo this season. Ball links and proper caster angle on the front suspension allow far worse mayhem on the sled.

I've had decent success with the pla track as well but I've definitely blown off quite a few lugs so I'm interested to see how the tpu track holds up. I'll definitely be looking more into the ball links this time as well.

My PLA track keeps exploding on full throttle pulls. I'll try the wire instead of filament for the links. Thanks for the suggestion

Breaking points are built into snowmobile steering designs to save your servo. Also in low temps tpu isn't so flexible.

btw guys when building the tracks i reccomend using metal instead
@rcprinter
@rcprinter 2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean for the pins? Yeah metal pins would be best. I'm in the middle of building another sled right now in preparation for this winter and will be using a TPU track this time and I will definitely see if I can get metal pins in there instead. That said, the plastic ones do work pretty well in my experience.

@@rcprinter yeah but if u put like metal pins and lube them the track will be smoother

How much does it cost to make with the motor and everything?

Like $250-350 depending on what parts you decide to go with.

Roughly how much filament did it use to print? My school has a 3d printer but you have to pay for how much filament you use so i would like to know how much it will cost me

Sadly it drives like a car in the snow. Not like a real snowmobile. I have built 5 of these and have changed a few things and am working on a counter weight option. Also got rid of the wicked bump steer!!
@rcprinter
@rcprinter 2 жыл бұрын
A counterweight option would be pretty cool and would definitely help with the turning. I remember seeing a video on something like that in the skeeride discord forum a while back. I'd love to check out your counterweight option whenever you're ready to post some details. I'm just now working a new skeeride build with the new polaris body and a tpu track. Winter is coming and the local facebook sled groups are already filling up with epic pictures!
@jdsstegman
@jdsstegman 2 жыл бұрын
@@rcprinter yep. Tpu track is what I run. Best version so far. I will post with the counter weight option. But I may have shifted gears as I'm going to try a moving front upper shock mount to "tip" the sled my extending 1 shock and retracting the opposite one. We will see.

@@jdsstegman What did you pin your TPU track together with? Filament or metal?
@jdsstegman
@jdsstegman 2 жыл бұрын
@@rcprinter PLA pins. So far I have not ripped a track apart yet. And it has power. Enough to flip it over backwards in powder. This year I am going to try "perfect pass" on it. It's hard to control track spin. Should help to smooth out the throttle a bit.
@rcprinter
@rcprinter 2 жыл бұрын
@@jdsstegman Thanks that helps. I was considering going with metal pins but if that's overbuilding then PLA pins would be waaaaay simpler and I'll do that first. They might stay in a bit better than metal as well. This next sled I'm also going with a better sensored motor than the one I used last time so I'm hoping to get a bit more wheelie action out of it :) It'll be interesting to see how much perfect pass launch control helps you out... I've not heard of it before but I'm checking it out now...

Had to dislike because 100% infill does not improve strength

@rcprinter
@rcprinter 3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, each to their own. I'd love to read up on your comment if you have a link to something scientific? I generally find parts with 100% infill last far longer than hollow parts but I suppose that's just 100% anecdotal. I know there's decreasing returns on strength as infill %'s go up but on parts that are only mm's wide I don't see why you wouldn't just fill it all up with plastic. If I'm constantly breaking one part on a model I always reprint it at 100% and it has solved the issue many times. I built the 3dsets rancher not too long ago and most of the drive components are recommended to have 100% infill... I assume that's for strength.
