My teacher-- 'Sensei', 'Master', who gives a shit what you call it-- was always preaching the dumbest things while she kicked my ass. At the time, everything she said sounded like a riddle. I fuckin' hated it! You know how frustrating it is to not only get thrashed by someone better than you, but then afterwards get advice from them how to put up more of a fight next time? Just thinking back to all those times my sword was sent flying out of my hands and clattered to the floor pisses me off! Hell, I can still remember exactly what she said to me every single time I lost. "Every step results in a response, memorized and practiced over and over again." What does she think I was doing? Just daydreaming every single time she gave me lessons? Of course I practiced and stuff! She had me do every single type of slashing technique at least a thousand times over! "Every movement means something. Engage and withdraw, one foot after the other." As if I wasn't already trying to make every single strike count! Honestly, after being run through so many times by those simple words you'd think I'd have quit. She always repeated the most basic advice to me, hammering it into my brain! But whenever I felt like I wasn't up to the task, she always managed to assure me somehow. Spouted stuff about me being her 'protege' or whatnot. Honestly, maybe it was just sweet talk so she could have me to keep her company. Oh, but my sensei always had one line that I hated more than anything else. "It's just like dancing." See what I mean? I think she just enjoyed seeing how frustrated I got whenever I tried to figure out what the hell she meant. She couldn't just tell me what I need to do better like a normal person, nOoO~- it was always related to dancing. Regardless, I kept taking lessons from her. She never really stopped her talk about dancing and whatnot, but I kinda just tuned her out at the time. Looking back, she was actually a pretty great teacher. None of the other swordsmen in the village could tolerate my.. 'attitude' except her. Plus, I definitely still gained a lot from being her student. I mean, even if I still don't fully understand what she's saying, I can still learn from it. Even if my style is different than hers, that doesn't mean I can't take what she taught me and make it my own. Even without an audience, I can always aim to please. After all, I'm still alive, aren't I? Still breathing. Still fighting. Still dancing. --- Hi! This lil work is just from a perspective that 'Dancing Still' follows the student of the woman in the thumbnail of 'It's Just Like Dancing'. I wanted to take into account the very different styles of the music, and rather than making this the same character as the one in Sketch 4, I wanted to represent the growth of the dancing itself and how it's style has changed over time. Plus, I wanted to give 'It's Just Like Dancing's description's an actual target for it's message. Plus, I kind of wanted to capture the differing attitude of the character speaking in the description of this video and how that cool and collected may have been formed from a less mature age. I may edit this later on, but for now I think this is all I have to say!
