This is so relatable, glad to see I'm not the only one with a ton of unfinished sketchbooks! I usually start with detailed sketches but then I get impatience and make a bunch of unfinished doodles and the I get tired of it :'D Then I get a new fresh sketchbook and it start all over again

Even if it's old and full of old drawings from like 3RD grade I still finish them. And for some reason I draw eyes... a lot. I'm working on expressions with eyes and stuff so bleh.

Because I've had multiple comments about it: This is the St. Andrews in Kettering, Northamptonshire (which is where I am from), not the one in Scotland. There are almost 100 St Andrews Churches in England alone, not even counting Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and the rest of the world - it's a common name for a church! So never fear my little Wonderlanders, I know some geography! ;)

Thank you. I enjoyed that peek into your sketch books. I am on a quest to go back and fill all of my abandoned sketch books before i start a new one. I only have three A4 ones to go. one of which I may just give to my daughter because the spiral binding is all out of shape. My books were abandoned because I would have a spurt of arting and then i would go onto other things, forget where my sketch book was and when i felt the need to draw have to go buy another one. Lol. I am finally using them to develop my skills by drawing a lot from life. It has been very rewarding. I finally feel I am getting somewhere with anatomy. The trick for me was to stop thinking i had to have perfectly finished pieces of art in my sketch books (watched too many KZfaq videos of awesome artists sketch books) and remember that sketch books are a learning tool and I am allowed to mess them up with bad art because that means I'll eventually start making good art. :) BTW quick question... which watercolours did you use when you were traveling?

Peta Hewitt Thank you for this. This comment actually inspired me to work more on my art and anatomy because I realize that my art does *not* have to be perfect; that a sketchbook does not need to have great drawings to be a good sketchbook. I just wanted to thank you for that.

I wouldnt say that not finishing a sketchbook is an "artist's thing" because its a choice. I personally love finishing sketchbooks and like a completed book of art but that doesn't mean that i'm not an artist.

I don’t think it’s too bad with your unfinished sketchbook collection. Loved watching all these flip throughs. And I agree with you on the Italy sketchbook. That one’s special. I think you’ll later regret it if you’d fill it with different sketches now. The only right solution to fill it would be another trip to Italy 😁💖 Hey, all the big 17th century artists did it, while starving to death. Maybe you could do a trip to France as well 😁 Oh that reminds me of that animated movie about Vincent van Gogh. Did you see it? I was so in love with this unique style of animation, staying close to Vincent’s style. I thought his life story was very sad. Keep sketching! I started to follow you yesterday or the day before. I've been suffering an art block for few months now and watching your videos has really given me inspiration. Also seeing your unfinished sketchbooks with all those little scribbles and colour testings make me feel a little better about my sketchbooks. Because whenever I see people showing their sketchbooks, they are so perfect and pretty and mine are just full of scribbles.

I used to start a sketchbook, do a few drawings & then feel like the book was ruined. 😂 Art school really snapped me out of that! I now finish all of my sketch books. If I feel like experimenting but am worried it won't work out, I just draw on loose paper & stick it into the book later.

I love that I've found a KZfaqr that lives near me. It helps feel like KZfaq isn't some far away land with fake people. It's refreshing to see all these stickers on your books that I have decorating my room and stuff. Haha

New subscriber here! I've started trying to get back to my roots of art, now that I'm getting my post grad life together. I started watching your videos and this by far is the most inspiring. I have so many unfinished sketch books that I feel guilty about. I thought it made me a bad artist or a lazy one. This was very inspiring and comforting to see. Thank you. 💙

+Sümeyye Demir haha some have more than the first two pages. I'm very easily distracted and I often move on to new sketchbooks and come back to old ones. There's no reason to get angry at what someone else does though! You do you and I'll do me and it'll be grand :))

What I would recommend is like to draw fruit, food, etc. I do this and it helps if I have nothing to draw

Just so you know for future reference, in New Orleans we don't have crocodiles, we have alligators. And down here alligators are used for EVERYTHING. Logos, business names, even murals on walls that should not have alligators on them. 😂 you draw really nicely too.

The quote basically mean that they're not in the middle, there is not an in between. They either are on the "black" or dark side of things or "white" or light side of things. They don't have both good or bad
