Very captivating and great instruction value video. At 8.02 minutes, it's apt to hold the viewer's interest focused and wanting to absorb the info. And decent commentary too. I like these short and well-made to-the-point videos. Thank you.

Yes! Thank you for pointing it the need to have different plans depending on your situation. I tend to over complicate my sketches when I am painting plein air. Keep things simple!

Fantastic work, and very useful for someone who is trying to draw loosely... The only thing I dont like is the use of violets and purples in every scenario... I would rather use dark greens and blues and greys for shadowing. Thank you for sharing this work.

My issue with having more than one plan is that, as a relative newcomer to sketching, I haven't spent enough time on ONE plan yet to become fluent enough to realize that I need more. For people sketching, shapes is one plan, silhouette is another; you've got silhouette plus shapes in this video--they all take a lot of practice. Am still having trouble with people...and cars!

Very good point Tom👍🏼 that has given me something to think about for beginners. Do you have a process you’re more drawn to when starting out?

@@SketchingScottie Thank for the reply! To answer, drawing shapes is the easiest, especially if I'm just adding the suggestion of people in an urban scene. For a drawing of a person/couple as in your example, I have followed your silhouette, head-length-proportions guides in your videos, but I can tell it's going to take a lot of practice to keep the figures from looking stiff and their limbs in proportional balance. Any suggestions for that?

That’s good to know shapes are easier for you👍🏼. One way you could practice is by filling a page with very small figure outlines. Then you could slightly exaggerate the angles and flow of the body and legs to make them less stiff. Simplify them with a circle for the head, rectangle for torso and simple shapes for the legs and arms. Hope that helps!

Nice.. does this moleskine sketchbook takes watercolour as well as dedicated watercolour paper?
@SketchingScottie
@SketchingScottie Жыл бұрын
It's not as thick as good watercolor paper so not the best. For light washes it's fine👍🏼

I explain some basics here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZeijdOop8CwaaM.html Some other videos that could help: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g5-cmreItJixep8.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7t_ppB417qtY3k.html If you're absolute beginner and want some books I'd check out Andrew Loomis figure drawing book and practice sketching the proportions in pencil. I also like Tom Fox and his approach to sketching figures with a mannequin (he has a book as well). 👍🏼

Hmmm, I can tell the woman is a black woman but you kinda turned the black guy into a white looking guy, if you follow. Being black myself, I wouldn't of been too happy if you drew this of me and my girl.

Thanks for the feedback cakershake. Yes I wasn’t sure if I got he man’s face quite right in this one so it’s good to have your honesty. I will work on this more for future sketches so I can try and get those details right👍🏼
