I was just watching the first ride home video. Found it pretty interesting, a few years back when I didn’t have kids and was pretty flush with $ I pondered buying a Harley (for about a week), lived 20mins out of town and an easy road . I had only ridden a bike twice so I slapped myself a few times and decided I should stay with V8s and 4 wheels before I killed myself. Really sad to hear this guy got killed, RIP.

Sorry to hear about your brother Adam, that must have been completely devastating. I too just came from Tully's 'first ride' vid and was actually really excited to see what progress he'd made, but then I seen the comments about him passing away - so awful. I can understand you not wanting to risk riding a motorbike due to what happened with your brother but you can't let these things hold you back life. If it's something you want to do, and especially if something you've been wanting to do for a while, go for it. Life is too short. If you do end up getting a bike, as much as going fast is super fun, just take it easy - it's not worth it (I learned that the hard way driving a high power BMW!).

@DreamixVA2 жыл бұрын
my advise to you would be to look at other content creators who make motorcycle videos and get a proper idea from different sources of what you want to do. People die on anything. A bike, a car, even a scooter. Supposedly, he died because he drove too wide on a tight turn on the highway and got yeeted off the railing and hit something. Now this could be do to inexperienced and overconfidence, a simple mistake, or a crash situation that was simply out of his control and inevitable regardless of what vehicle he drove. Nobody truly knows but him. At the end of the day (from what I am personally aware of) regardless of what vehicle you choose to sport, always have respect for it, yourself, and the people around you whilst you drive, and be as educated as possible about your specific vehicle and the area you drive in and make educated decisions based on that. Its all up to you on what you feel comfortable with and how whatever you choose fits with your lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with doing research and/or taking extra driving classes. Its always better to be safe then sorry. Plus, if you are rethinking your decision, try asking yourself why you even want to get that vehicle, what will it do for you, does it makes sense for your life at this very second, and is it worth the risk regardless of what this vehicle or anything in general may be. -If you are still interested in a motorcycle AFTER asking these questions and reflecting, here is a good youtuber that got recommended to me ;) Maybe you can learn a thing or 2 (=/)/` kzfaq.info Goodluck and much love

People saying he died because of the size he started on are not understanding you can die just as easy on a 250 going 80 - 90 mph or on a 650 doing 80 - 90. It's about self control and respect for the danger of a bike. If you ride dangerously on any bike you could die. I started on a 650 and used it as my only transportation for 3 year's, rain, cold, hail, everyday. Yes I crashed but it wasn't due to the power of the bike it was due to my own negligence. If you can't be responsible enough to ride within your own limits then yes a 650 will certainly kill you as will a 250 but at that point it's your own fault.

completely agree. I even had my motorcycle lessons on a mt-07, so it is all about how you control your right wrist. I started late, had 22yrs experience in a car, and less need to go fast or drive dangerous because of my age. Still on my first bike, a 1200 GS Adventure. Driving license requirements and traffic are a lot different than here in Europe (and I’ve driven a lot in the US), but that license is just the start and only then does the real training start. Lighter bikes are just easier to manoeuvre, but I’m a big guy so the GS is perfect for my size. It’s all about self control and giving yourself plenty of time to learn and get as many miles as you can before you even take a passenger along. Even with a couple of years of riding you are still a beginner, so be aware of the learning curve ahead and avoid overconfidence

@@Diya_ilam Sure, he was drunk and coming back home from a barbecue (literally the barbecue of his life) and was riding through a very curvy section of the road in between the cities where we live. As he was finishing one of those curves and entering the next, he accelerated up to 240 (we know this because the speedometer broke during the crash and froze), as he was starting to brake to enter the curve the lost traction momentarily, the bike slid and as it regained traction my uncle was thrown off balance into a pickup that was coming on the other lane. The bike along with his left leg crashed into the pickup's front left side, and he was thrown over it (his leg broke in several places as he did), he flew some 7 meters into a steel cattle fence with so much force that the fence bent a good ten degrees from the impact. His whole body broke but he survived (amazingly with no serious permanent injuries, only a limp in his left leg). He probably only survived because he didn't hit the pickup head on, and the steel fence bent just enough to not get him seriously hurt from the energy. What's even more amazing is that he sat there for more than half an hour waiting for the paramedics. It took him a good 7 months of surgiry and treatment to fully recover.

Unfortunately, I've often seen how unsure all the beginners in the US are on motorcycles, so I'm wondering what they learn in driving school? In Germany it takes at least 6 months of practicing with a trained driving instructor before you can take the real driving test. I learned to drive on a 125cc when I was 16 and then rode it for two years until I got the Z650. Now after another 3 years I'm getting a Z900 and I would recommend everyone to start with 125cc, that's enough power to practice and make progress. Take care of yourself and expect others to make mistakes, which is also a common reason why motorcycle riders get injured.

I couldn’t bare the thought of that new guy getting on his first bike and getting injured or killed on the ride home. I understand everyone needs to learn by experience but I felt I was doing him and his family a disservice by selling him the bike. Again please be safe all.

I'm so shocked at what happend to him especially also being a new rider with only 3 months on the saddle. What I can say tho even as a beginner I feel like he should've started on a 400cc or something. I really wanted to also start on a 650 but I'm so grateful now since I ended up getting a cbr250r. Rest in peace Tully🕊🕊😥

Just read the comments here and you will find the answers you're looking for. His sister confirmed he passed on facebook, his mom posted pictures of him everyday on facebook saying she was thinking of him, and someone named dr- deadrabbit posted a comment here saying he was riding with him that day and was there when he passed away (that same user also uploaded a video of the ride two days after it occurred with the description RIP Tully) watching the video you can see why a beginner doing a group ride on that mountain is a terrible idea. Tully was on a group ride and on Angeles Crest and took too wide a turn that proved to be fatal.

I've managed to find a decadent listing with his name on it filed in Los Angeles County a month after his death. I also found "Tully Rankin RIP" in a weekly bulletin for St. Rita Catholic Parish which is located in Los Angeles County and was published a few weeks after his death. So I'm going to go ahead and believe it's the same person and he did pass away, supposedly on July 10, 2021 according to a comment somewhere on here or the video before this one

Not to make this about pointing out mistakes or anything, but when I saw his first video, it was clear he had very limited training. The kind of things that would be covered in motorcycle lessons, such as clutch control and gradually changing down the gears while slowing down (right gear, right speed) - were all missing from his first video. It surprised me that someone would have such little training, on such a big bike, even though I was pulling for him to do well. It's not normal to not have any of those foundational riding issues, if he had full training. My main take away from anyone viewing this comment: It seems that the test standard for big motorbikes is lacking in America (and in other countries). It is not worth your life to take any shortcuts. If you can, please take some advanced riding lessons. Yes, I know that mistakes can happen to any experienced riders, but based off of what I was seeing, this guy could have benefited from a much better foundation by having more lessons/training. If he really is dead, RIP.

@@mistahozzy A speed where you can react in time and not get hit by someone who didn't do a shoulder check when swapping lanes and how close the cars are to one another. The worse the conditions are to see (like nighttime) the slower you should go.
@Daniel-dj7fh2 жыл бұрын
@@mistahozzy Optimally don't lane split at all unless cars are not moving at all. There is really almost no reason to lane split if everything is moving. Just like if you swap lanes to go to the faster lane when there is traffic slows the whole traffic even more, lane splitting will just cause cars to break slowing everything down too. You have to look at this in the perspective of what if many people do it, you alone of course won't make a difference.

Yeah, it's a very windy road that speeds up and slows down real quick in some areas. A lot of blind corners where you can't see more than 100ft around the corner plus other dangers like dirt, rocks on the road, and other drivers.

@mcnuggatron21292 жыл бұрын
If you start on a smaller bike, ride safely and responsibly, wear full gear, and know your limitations, *you still might die.* Almost every comment is someone saying, basically, "this is so sad. Take corners slowly, wear gear, or you could end up hurt." I find these comments to be dangerous. We all maintain a natural delusion that we won't be the one to die in whatever it is we're doing. Seeing someone comparable to ourselves dying doing what it is we do is a threat to that delusion, and as a result, people in these comments are separating themselves in whatever way they can from the uploader of this video. Truth is, you aren't different. You've already outlived hundreds of people who were way better riders than you, even if you've survived a few months of riding. What these comments are really saying is "I will not crash/die riding motorcycles, because I am different." but that mind set makes you more likely to become a statistic. You need to logical understand that you aren't special. Arrogance kills.

See, this is why I’m afraid to look at a biker’s KZfaq channel and their comments, especially if they haven’t uploaded in a while. There’s a half chance they either quit KZfaq altogether (due to personal reasons) or because they died (either riding their bikes or other means). While I’m unsure whether or not you have passed, I will still wish you a rest in peace.
