Agreed. Man I saw them live at a monsters of rock concert at alpine valley back in the late 80s or early 90s. I think it was right before this album came out. It was amazing.

Skid row is not considered “glam”. That is bands like Poison. They are considered heavy metal. They are from NJ and were discovered by Bon Jovi.

As for their "genre"... they probably got put in the Hair Metal category but if you listen to their sound, they weren't quite in that realm IMO, a little harder and less flash than the hair/glam guys.

My Mum got squashed in the crowd at Wembley stadium back in 91. When she came round Sebastian and a couple of security were helping her come round and he gave her his scarf to keep her warm. You'd have to be special forces to get near that scarf now 🤣

They are one of my favorite bands from that era and Sebastian Bach's range is absolutely amazing!!! Did you know he was on broadway for a short stint I believe it was in Jekyl and Hyde? I always thought with such strong vocals like that, he'd be good in musicals! Yes, it's definitely 80's glam rock. Sometimes people refer to it as Hair Metal lol Sometimes it's derogatory, sometimes it's not. Depends on if you're a fan! ;) Keep on rocking!

Skid Row was like the last great heavy metal band before grunge hit. It was a shame, I think they would have had a string of popular albums but the public's interest in music switched to Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

I remember walking into the Navy NEX and seeing the new Skid Row album, Slave to the Grind. I got back to my barracks room and put it in my CD-player boombox and fired it up. And this comes on. I was blown away from the moment. Great album. Great track.

I was 21 when Skid Row came out and some called them "Hair Metal" which they were not. Bands like Poison (one example) were Hair Metal. Lots of makeup and HUGE, high, hairsprayed look. The biggest difference is the music, which Poison was all about "Don't need nothing but a good time..." or "Talk dirty to me." Skid Row had more complex music, lyrics and singing. This is just another level of how insanely great Skid Row was. This is a much harder album than the debut. In my opinion, this was Skid Row showing the WORLD that they can put out some really hard rock and not be lumped in with the hair bands of the time. Slave To The Grind is ALMOST a speed metal song. If you decide to react to it, you wont be disappointed.

This was my middle school and high school years. I had their poster on the wall. I went to their shows. I even had the t-shirt. Sebastian Bach has such a great voice. Much later than this (2002) I was able to see him in the Musical Jesus Christ Superstar and he was amazing in that too!
