'Slave To The Grind' is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Even the ballads are incredibly ballsy. And Sebastian Bach's vocals on this record are supernatural.

I saw Skid Row in concert opening for Guns N" Roses in summer of 1991 at the beginning of the Slave To The Grind tour. There are no words and won't try to describe how magical Skid Row and GNR were at that concert.

The story is that the record company did not want 'Monkey Business' to be the first single off the new record. And they were even more resistant to 'Slave To The Grind' being a single at all because it was so heavy. But the band was in a place where they could dictate what they wanted. They wanted to prove that they weren't just a ballad band after the mega-success of 'I Remember You' and '18 And Life'. 'Slave To The Grind' was the first metal album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard charts.

It warms my heart to see the younger generation love the music that i grew up with. Granted I was 20 when this album came out but I'm 51 now and it sure takes me back. Seen Skid Row about a dozen times and each time was an out of body experience. Glad you love Skid Row. Keep rocking young lady.

Monkey Business has always been one of my favourite Skid Row songs. That scream at the beginning really is the business, the riffs are killer and don’t even mention the cowbell!

😯 Oh my goodness and wow, skid row second album is completely 100% better than any other album that they did. I grew up most of my life listening to hard rock and heavy metal Christian bands.like stryper, guardian, white heart, white cross and believer plus so much more back in the 80s and early 90s. For some one like me to admit that skid row second album is so much better than you know it has to be true. I kid you not. This is going to be awesome. Thank you for reviewing skid rows second album.

I watched them perform this song and Piece of Me on SNL when I was just a wee lass, and that's what turned me into a metalhead. I knew you'd love it. This whole album is a masterpiece. You should definitely listen through this one, then Subhuman Race, and then, might I suggest you check out the mighty PANTERA. Their first big album with Phil on vocals is a bit heavier than Skid Row, but the Skids brought them out on tour (on the Slave to the Grind tour, in fact!) and helped to introduce the states to Pantera. Pantera gets heavier and heavier as their albums go, though, and their later albums might be too heavy for you at this point in time. Then, when you've heard Pantera, please go watch their home videos. Both Skid Row and Pantera filmed their exploits. They are so funny and shocking and once you see the bands interacting with each other you'll understand how goofy they all are. You could live stream your reactions to the home videos and we could watch 'em with ya.

The 'Roadkill' video is amazing. It's such a travesty it's not on DVD at least. Sebastian has been highly critical of the Skid Row guys for not doing anything to celebrate the anniversaries of the records with major reissues. All of this archived stuff should be repackaged and put out there for fans. I still have the ROADKILL VHS with the 3D glasses for the 'Psycho Love' video.

I never knew what the song Monkey Business was about even still and I dont even care what its about. All I know is that it gets me going even 30 years later after the fact.

Hi Sarah!!! Woo Hoo! Oh YES!!! Now that is how you OPEN AN ALBUM!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The best one, two combination since Mike Tyson was a World Champion! I must warn you Sarah, the next song, The Threat is going to just about rip you face off (in a good way of course!!🤕🤣). I f***ing LOVE this album!! Seriously, for a moment, I still feel the way you clearly did when I hear Monkey Business and Slave To The Grind. A mixture of elation, wonder, and disbelief. Monkey Business has it all, teasing intro, crushing riff, hooks galore, incredible vocals and at every turn, just when you think you know what's coming, they do something unexpected. Perfect. I must admit, trying to listen along with your fresh ears helped me appreciate anew just how amazing the musical composition of this song has been. I mean I knew that (like Duh! It's Skid Row!🤣🤣), but I must have heard these songs thousands of times and it was good to refresh my ears a bit! So, thank you for that!👂👂 Slave to the Grind (meaning the song but also the album too) is definitively the moment Skid Row became a METAL band. No 'Hair' ironically placed in front, no comparisons to Bon Jovi anymore (hard to believe but that did happen in the early days). Skid Row meant (monkey) business and they were dead set going to kick your arse! I was a bit worried that maybe these songs might be too heavy for you, Sarah. I am glad that wasn't the case and hope that you continue to be so thrilled with this album!! There is a reason why it is most treasured albums and I really do return to it whenever I need a pick me up - which is sadly, quite often. Already excited for next week and The Threat!! I honestly, very nearly headbanged my head off to these first 3 songs. I probably needed a rest after that, to be honest!🥵 Good luck with the new Def Leppard album. I hope you enjoy it more than I did!😭 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.😁🤘🤘🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒 Ps Sarah, I have just checked the KZfaq posting of the Slave To The Grind album and I feel I need to point out that the track listing is NOT complete!!! The song Beggar's Day has replaced the original (and I think superior) track Get The F**k Out! Now I may have read that in America the album included Beggar's Day - not sure if it was instead or as well as GTFO! Either way please note that Get The F**k Out was most certainly a major part of the album world wide. To help you find it I have linked it here - Get The F**k Out! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbWjlrlhz7KuqnU.html

Saw Skid Row open for Aerosmith. Skids had Slave and Aero had Pump. Pump was a HUGE album at the time and they were great but I didn't want Skid Row to end! It was like... ok, up next it's AEROSMITH!!! And I was... how to F do you top that!?!? And it, in fact, did not happen.

This was the last hard rock band album I bought in the 90s. This was right as grunge was blowing up... but I didn't go from this to grunge, instead this album transitioned me right into Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Fear Factory, Life of Agony, Type O Negative etc.

Girl, I told you. 😂 Only album I wore out more than this in my life is Appetite For Destruction and maybe Van Halen’s Carnal Knowledge. I absolutely worshipped the first album, and I remember reserving this in 91 when I was 13 and grabbing it day 1 at my local music store. I got maybe as far as these 2 songs before I hopped on the moped and raced to my buddy’s screaming "holy shit, bro…you gotta hear this!!!" Don’t think I listened to anything else for a couple of months. Just wait - it is pure perfection. Album #3 is also really good, despite what many may tell you. You are dead right too about the other singers. I tried to give the second one a shot, but we’re talking about the second greatest voice in rock history next to my boy from Steelheart. He wasn’t even close, and the songs were bland and uninspired. Sad, really. You can safely skip everything after Subhuman Race. I’m sure they’re as exciting as watching flies go at it. By the way, not to get simp or anything, but you look especially great today. Had to be said.

Rachel says it’s about posers . But you can easily make it about drugs too. Monkey Business is there most perfect song, in my opinion.

Sorry the new singer now is better than the current Sebastian. Sebastian can't even do the younger Sebastian anymore. But at least we still have the recordings. Outside of that and Sebastian's opinion on politics those songs are gold. I am blessed to have seen and experienced them live during those days. They are still some of the best musicians and songwriters. Hell even Sebastian's solo stuff is good but never on par with the Skid Row records. Sebastian could sing his balls off better than anyone in those days.
